Go back and look at Bledsoe’s Bills career. He was AWFUL. He’s the only guy in the history of the drought that we have a favorable impression of that was completely undeserved. He was Losman bad.

I think the opposite, he was overly criticized.  He had bad RBs and a defense that never helped out.  He played for playoff teams his downside is he wasn't Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers good

They were in a playoff position. If they won yesterday they were actually the 5 seed. There’s a difference between playoffs and Super Bowl. One of them can clearly lead their team to the playoffs. One of them may not be on a roster next year. Those aren’t the same. Average starter is not the same as scrub rookie backup.

I’m all for Rosen. We all should be.

QB wouldn't have made the difference, at least Peterman took chances.

  2. This is the Raiders game from a couple of years ago but a lot earlier in the year.  The sad thing is this was a winnable game.  We have one good early drive on both sides of the field and every week they stop playing.  Last week it was a FG, this week it was McCoy's TD and then both sides stop playing.  McDerm and Co are not correcting mistakes fast enough.  Curious what Polian has to say about this mess after recommending both Coach and GM.  McDerm needs to fire coaching staff immediately before he loses this whole team and fan base.

I disagree. Bledsoe for one year, maybe. But he also lossed a lot of games because he consistently turned the ball over. Flutie and Orton were on better teams. He didn't play well that last 2 games but we know this offense isn't built to score quickly. It's built for long sustained drives and quick decisions by the QB. Tyrod is the type of QB that holds on to the ball and has to see a receiver open. Not necessarily his strength. So if the Bills get down early with these receivers and these play calls it's a death sentence. Good coaches adjust their offense and defense to the strengths of their players. We put Tyrod in a position to fail and ask him to play to his weaknesses. Then blame him for the defense sucking.

I agree but is this the coaching or Tyrod?  I have watched Tyrod in college and the pros and he has always resisted running in groups of games.  He just doesn't do it.  He can take over games or just bow out of them.  He had running room against the Jets and Saints on critical 3rd downs and neglects to run and tries a ill advised over the top pass.  He can be better if he uses all of his tools.

It's ok you can have faith. Why not?

The defense is as you say. Maybe teams figured it out and now it is child's play.

As for the offense, I think they didn't know they could not pass block. In practice they only have to block our defense. And in games Tyrod is able to stay on his feet pretty much no matter what happens. I don't think they knew how bad they are. I know I didn't.

I remember you made a post about how far back Tyrod drops. And he can't get the ball out fast because of how far back he drops.

Well, now I know why Tyrod drops back so far.

The snark remarks teams have made is they make Tyrod Taylor be a quarterback.

Now we see what happens when they make our Offensive line, be an offensive line. There is no pocket.

This one was not fun. It seems we need defensive backs, linebackers, defensive linemen, offensive linemen, running backs, wide receivers and a quarterback. We are good at kicker though.

I really think the thing that ails this defense is LBs.  They are not instinctive and look behind on every player.  QBs, RBs, WRs, FBs, TEs.  Any player on offense they can't react.  Now is that a coach issue or player?

Taylor's the best QB we've had in a long time.

He stretched the field quite a bit when we had Sammy

He looked good for the short time that Robert Woods, Sammy and Percy Harvin were healthy and starting.

He's Alex Smith, the perfect starter while we look for our QB of the future. But of course we want to get the best QB we've had in the last 20 years off the field to play a 5th rounder from Pitt who couldn't win the starting job at Tennessee.

We can't forget how bad he looked the past two games, can we?   I would also consider Bledsoe, Flutie and even Orton higher than Tyrod.

TT is a QB who isn't going to win games by himself, but won't lose games by himself. In other words, a pretty average QB.

Peterman gave them no chance with those turnovers.

In saying that, the defence was awful once again and it wouldn't have mattered who started the game.

Would have been closer if TT played but that's about it

TT was a 3 and out QB the last two weeks and when defensive players keep saying they just make him be a QB and he chooses not to use his legs at all, he hurts this team.  Peterman while he doesn't look like the answer was not helped by the right side of the line or his FB.  Peterman should have taken a few sacks but I think we see why the Bills don't throw down the field enough.

  7. I believe this is a good philosophy, the down side is do the players lose hope before the process is finished.  Also I think Peterman got a raw deal yesterday.  A lot of those INTs were bad luck.  He threw them because he was trying to be a competitor but he had zero room to step up and that left side of that line folded bad.  This team is 5-5 no matter who was at QB.  Is this game indicative of who Peterman is?  I don't think so.  Is Peterman a starting QB?  I don't see how.  This should convince the Bills to jump up in the draft to get the QB they need for once.  Don't be like Cleveland settling for bottom tier or pass on Deshaun Watson.  Make it happen this year

And this year Sammy was healthy and would have seen a full year and hoped the OC featured him.

Again if TT couldn't grasp the offense or execute, then I am wrong about Tyrod.  I've however been resolute that the OC, HO and coaching have done him no favours.

You are right but coaching is hard sometimes when you have someone like Tyrod that thrives under improv.  He is not a system QB that you can count on consistency.  Lynn did well with him and maybe he will be in San Diego at some point and Lynn will thrive under him but I doubt he has a future as a passing QB.

Yup.  Alexander was a fluke and his best value is as a situational pass rusher, STer, and leader.  LA missed a ton of tackles in space and considering he was a D Lineman, it’s not that surprising.

I'd be up for putting Lawson in the middle and Alexander pass rushing on passing downs.  Makes you wonder though why Humber hasn't looked good since he has come back

All other factors and possibilities and feelings and opinions aside, the Bills brass are looking at this in a very simple clear professional way.

They will play Peterman which means, things can go well, or things can go badly.

If things go well they will know that they do not need to draft a quarterback high next year.

If things go badly, they will know that they do need to draft a quarterback. And they will be in a better potion to do so because they will have lost more games and will draft higher.

I think it is that simple. They need to know and they are going to find out

I agree with your assessment but I think they should do what Seattle did when they drafted Wilson.  They thought they had the future with Flynn (I think that's who it was they signed) but yet they saw Wilson there in the 3rd.  I just don't want the Bills to see their franchise QB in only 7 games.  I hope Peterman takes it and runs with it but the scars run deep.

  11. Sunday didn't really show gunslinger rather it showed someone that wasn't afraid to throw.  Some were to tight windows but most were put in a spot where only his receivers could get it.  I get soft zone coverage had to do with that but Taylor had same opportunities.

    It absolutely was.

They basically forced Taylor into a system that doesn't fit his skill set with no WRs. They wanted him to fail so they could put in their guys and get their own guy. One bad game and he's out.

He got a raw deal. He will go some where next year and have success if put in the right system, IMO.

I doubt they wanted him to fail.  He was signed by the new regime so that would make no sense.

Kudos to The NFL Network for pointing today out that the last 5-4 team in a playoff hunt to replace their QB with a rookie was the Giants with Eli Manning replacing Kurt Warner (2004). Sure enough, they have Warner on the show to talk about it. Warner pointed out that that Giants team wasn't very good and "not a playoff team" and switching to the #1 pick at QB was an acknowledgement of the future (sound familiar?).

Of course, Warner didn't point out that he was having the worst year of his career with 6 TDs, 4 INTs and a whopping 39 sacks (in 9 games!). He also had one of his lowest YPG of his career. Everyone assumed he was washed up after the 2 injury filled seasons before that. As it turns out, the offense wasn't aligned with his skills (see: Tyrod Taylor) and moving to AZ revived his career.

Eli was horrible as his replacement with 6 TDs, 9 INTs and just 115 YPG. Let's hope Peterman is no Eli Manning...as a rookie.

This is a better offense than that was.  I think the scheme is so out of whack from who Taylor is that the only way to fix the offense is to give it to someone who is made for this offense.

  13. I'd rather people laugh than do nothing and fail because the coaching staff is afraid to take risks.  I want to see what Peterman can do, we already know what Taylor is

One TD during garbage time when opponent was playing prevent with some backups does NOT impress me.

We will have time to assess what he can do the next few weeks.

The defence couldn't make plays? Lol 5 turnovers in the game to go to the superbowl isn't making plays?

And come on sir, I get the offence sucks. But you cant say the defence was bad because they are tired... Just look at the Saints first drive of the game. You are telling me they were fatigued then?

They thrashed the Bills from their opening possession of the game. Fatigue is no excuse.

I am talking about the Bills defense

Will it be better if the Bills lose the rest of the season and be 5-11 for better draft ?

Of course that is not going to happen . Most of us know we will have another mediocre season and end up 7-9 or 8-8 and be out of the playoffs . We are going to win meaningless games like beating the colts and the Dolphins at Miami

I would feel sad if we couldn't beat Miami.  That would show how much this team fell from a 5-2 start.  You will lose the locker room at that point.  I do feel like we have a lot on the uptick.  Just look at the Eagles last year, I feel like we are on the same trajectory.

Jmo they should keep Taylor (he is signed for next year) and draft a QB in the 1st. Open competition in OTAs and camp - understand TT might be 1st on depth chart to begin with but I don’t think he should be handed the job. If NP wins the job, so be it. TT will be gone in 2019 and you have NP and 1st rounder, go from there.

I don't see anyway Tyrod gets the job for 2018 based on what his ability to read a defense is.  The fact that he is not running at all in games shows how little they care about his skillset.
