eh...come on mike.  i really wonder what led to that.  there's a video of a guy pulling a gun on tyson, (i think it was in a comedy club) and he didn't even seem to be phased.  he ended up hugging the guy.

I was most surprised because you have to think he’s encountered countless people like this over the years looking to instigate their way into a lawsuit.

  2. I can’t argue with the analytics side. There is so much out about pitch counts, injuries, etc. I can’t argue that hard about the decision in itself.

I think what the OP is venting about is how analytics has cut out a lot of opportunities for special moments. I’m a fan at the end of the day. Cutting out more and more  opportunities for these moments and you’re left with a very long, dry, and boring season in a sport that is hemorrhaging fans for years.

Furthermore, and I know I may get dragged for this, but if Kershaw was ok with coming out of the game here it further confirms my long doubts on him. His playoff splits tell the story. One of the best pitchers of our time, but he’s not the assassin type competitor that distinguishes the true greats. He’s always seemed soft to me. May be unfair but has been my opinion for a while on him.

Those are nice cards.  A BGS 9.5 could be a PSA 10.  Do they list sub grades?  I have an ungraded Allen rookie NT dual patch /25 and the patches are nice.  One is part of the Buffalo.  No auto though.  Grading is expensive and a pain in the butt.  If I ever decide it is time to sell I’ll get certain cards graded.  I have a few PSA 10 Allen rookies, serial numbered but no patch or auto.  They are nice but not the upscale brands.  Personally I am not a huge fan of Prizm but that is what people buy of the “regular” cards.  I typically like the look of Select, Elite, Mosaic and even Donruss Optic more.

I think football might be the way to go for the future.  No way can hoop keep the upward trajectory it had.  Baseball will always be around, especially the older guys and the market is mature.  One thing I think is that pitchers, even old time HOF guys carry far less value than hitters based on their historical status.  Nolan Ryan seems to be the exception but guys like Bob Gibson are pretty cheap when compared to their peer hitters.  I’m not sure I see new baseball guys maintaining the sport’s edge in cards over new football guys.  The serial number thing and wide variety of brands/ high end variety evened those things out.  Non-QBs in football seem undervalued to me.  A real prospect like Jeff Okudah should not cost about the same as a certain QB flameout like Eason or Ehlinger IMO.

They do list subgrades and can be looked up through Becketts population report. I love my RPA /25 it’s a four color patch that looks really sharp.

    Centering- 9.5

    Edges - 9.5

    Corners - 9.5

    surface -9

    auto -10

I don’t have the glove card in front of me but was similar. I’ve thought about waiting and having PSA regrade them because there seems to be a slight price premium between PSA 10 and BGS 9.5 even if quality is the same. The long lead times have turned me off to that. Just holding and admiring!

I agree with your other points. I have a lot of NBA prizms due to the value people place on them, but there’s so much garbage hard to get anything valuable. Football seems to be QB or bust, which is why I never bought a lot apart from Allen.

It’s not.  It’s wild and crazy but not illogical.  Football cards generally rank third behind baseball and basketball.  Baseball cards have a much longer history.  The card you mention was serial numbered 1/1 where Allen’s is 1/10.  The Dominguez purchase is crazy if you ask me; kid can’t even spell his own first name properly….but lesser cards of Mike Trout like 1/25; 1/50, etc. go for millions.  If Dominguez becomes Trout that card will prove to be a good investment.  The Yankees are still the king and rank way above the Angels and that comes into play as well.  The odds of Dominguez becoming Trout are not realistic at all  but if he does……

This. There are a ton of variations between sports, between lines of cards, low runs of certain cards, etc. Unless you are very up to date a lot can seem inconsistent.

Huge money in NBA cards. Hunting for a Doncic rookie luckily got me back in long enough to grab some Allen rookies. In general it’s an overly expensive hobby these days.

My Josh cards are out of 25 (flawless gold rookie patch auto) and out of 15 (flawless signature glove) both grades BGS 9.5. I see no reason to sell now, but I doubt they ever hit some of these lofty marks.

  5. It would honestly depend on the return for me. At first thought it seems insane to trade your #1 with established chemistry with Allen.

Diggs frustrated me last season though. He seemed to give up on plays and lobby for a flag early instead of continuing to fight for the ball. Cost him both the catch and any potential flag. They don’t want you waving your arms for a flag before the ball even gets to you. Bothered me a lot last season and I partially blame the Tampa loss on that alone.

I still doubt they’d get a good enough return, but we’ll see.

  6. One that continues to stick out in my head was actually coming home from

a Bills game. There has been a few bad rides home with weather, but this one was an out of town trip.

I forget the exact year, 07 or 08 against Cleveland. Both teams had a playoff chance still and I was desperate to be at the game. Drove in the night before because they were saying we were getting a bad storm and slept at some dock we later tailgated at the next morning. Storm eventually came and if you remember it was a brutal unplayable game in Cleveland the Bills lost.

The drive home still haunts me. I was on very little sleep and shot and soaked from standing in the blizzard. Drunk Browns fans were torturing us as well. If took nearly 8 hours to drive home from Cleveland in a total whiteout. By far the worst drive I’ve had to take.

  7. I was as low as possible with this franchise over the summer and didn’t expect anything from this season. It’s been such a pleasant surprise to be excited and interested in The Sabres again. I’m looking forward to next season for the first time in a long time.

People tiptoed around the Eichel issue for years. The fact all the confirming stories are pouring in now isn’t particularly surprising. The guy dragged this team down with his ***** attitude. The trade is looking very lopsided for Buffalo from my viewpoint.

That post game interview speaks volumes about Jack and his lack of maturity.  As much as it must hurt to come back and lose a game that Vegas needed badly he needed to just grit his teeth and throw out the cliches:

"they were the better team out there tonight and deserved to win but I have to do better"

"they have a great fanbase here and they were really behind them tonight and I think it gave them an extra lift"

you know ***** that nobody actually believes but the smart players say it anyway.

Instead we got pouty whiny Jack on full display.  He never was and never will be a leader despite all that talent.

Spot on. I couldn’t believe he leaned in like that. I thought the quotes were fake until I saw the video, which was somehow worse.

He just seems extremely immature and unprofessional.
