Can't root for UB in this one. I'm an Army vet, and my brother's a graduate of West Point.

I'm with the Bulls rest of the year tho.

    You’re dead to me

Seems surprising, but it shouldn’t be. Some folks forget ( or were too young to recall) the NFL draft used to have 12 rounds in the early ‘90s. Even more prior to that. That means more players are FA’s , giving them some say in which team they play for. That’s what the NFLPA wanted. This works for teams too, as the talent level drops in a major way after the first 3 rounds. Since the salary structure dictates higher salaries for drafted players, they may be willling to forgo keeping a drafted player in favor of a cheaper UDFA to fill out the roster. The drafted player may still get a priority due to the investment, but if the cheaper guy can do just as good of a job he’ll make the roster. Teams have to get players from somewhere, and less are drafted out of College football now than was previously the case.

No that’s exactly right. There used to be 12, 13, 14 rounds

the talent didn’t disappear to only 7 rounds, there are just more UDFAs now

every team keeps atleast  1 UDFA per year and keep a few more on the PS

Well I'll be durned.  I mean, logic says that if there are 1696 players on NFL rosters, and only ~230 players drafted in 7 rounds (of which about 2/3 don't make it), there's a substantial need to fill in from somewhere, but I'm surprised it's that high.

    Thanks!

Exactly. As I said in a 10 year period there’s are only 320 first and 320 second round picks

EVERY SEASON there are 400-500 UDFAs trying out

Sky Diver is right. 28% of the NFL is UDFA. Here's a stat even more staggering. There are 481 UDFA's and 480 players drafted in the 1st or 2nd round.

    https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/one-staggering-stat-shows-how-important-undrafted-players-are-in-the-nfl-090516

That’s really not that staggering whenever you consider that in a 10 year period there are only 320 first round picks and 320 2nd rounders

there are about 400-500+ UDFAs every year trying out

UDFAs do not make 28% Of starting positions though.. that’s a different story

though Kurt Warner and FredEx and Chris Harris Jr and Arian Foster etc all studs

My parents would try to be sly and avoid using their seatbelts....sometimes even pulling across but not buckling. Same with MIL. I guess they grew up without them, and the older you get the more difficult it is to buckle. Fortunately cars now will go DING, DING, DING! until you buckle up. UNfortunatley, they often couldn’t hear it so I’d still have to tell them.  I don’t get wht anyone would NOT wear a seatbelt. Just crazy!

SOMETIMES I find myself not wearing it and after watching that video I never will again

And someone would have grabbed him.

You literally cannot say that for certain... every team passed him up 7 + times...that’s the only fact... it’s your opinion he’d get scooped

he was a priority UDFA, teams ARE NOT knocking over each other for him

Can someone explain to me this 4 game redshirt rule as it applies towards Hurts?

Players are allowed to appear in up to 4 regular season games and still be able to Redshirt

so if Hurts only appears in the first 3-4 games he can still be redshirted

As I recall he dropped quite a few passes

Every WR drops passes. I saw Goodwin at TC every year and he never struggled to track a deep ball .

Foster struggled when the pads came on at TC to track a deep ball and he struggled in PS and he still can’t pull it in and track it quite right

    I hope he improves

Most of the comments I read on here were said about Goodwin too. He turned out to be a pretty solid player, i’d take him back in a heartbeat. Give the guy time, he has the wheels to play in the NFL, his hands can get better with reps. No better way to learn than playing on Sundays. I wouldn’t have minded putting him on the PS but who knows, another team may have had an eye on him.

Goodwin was scoring long TDs his rookie year... he never had a problem tracking deep balls or catching them...

    he was hurt a bunch

KIAG (Niagara Falls Int’l) has a 9,800 ft runway. (used to base fighters)

KBUF (Buffalo Niagara Int’l) has a shorter 8,800 ft runway and at this point better approach lighting and instrument approaches

Both are more than long enough for a 747 at specified maximum landing weight land (that’s 7,500) but a fully loaded 747 has actually gone in and out of a 6,500 ft runway

Prior Aviation is located at Buffalo-Niagara, which is the airport everyone thinks of as “Buffalo”, in Cheektowaga

I live 1 min from both prior and Buffalo Niagara

If you have been around the program for a long time then you know very well that it doesn't resonate very much around the region and to an extent on campus. I'm not knocking UB. I'm happy and excited how the basketball and football programs have been elevated. I root for them and I would love to see greater fan support, especially in the football program.

It just seems to me that the MAC is a good fit UB. Although it is not considered to be a tier 1 league this mid-level league offers a good level of competition and an entertaining product. UB is in a good situation and should be proud of what they have accomplished in both basketball and football.

It not a bad league and I love the MAC...

but UB is spending millions on its facilities and cutting other D1 programs to boost football and basketball

they have branded themselves as the New York State university like a Ohio State or Penn State. They need more boosters but that can come with time and wins

Like I said this isn’t a 1-2 year project I’m talking about... in 15 years they will be ready.. and they want to make the jump when it comes
