  1. Five Iowa State players were signed – receiver Todd Blythe by New Orleans, quarterback Bret Meyer by Washington, linebacker Jon Banks by Buffalo, tight end Ben Barkema by Cleveland and long snapper Matt Purivs by Chicago. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs...28019/-1/LIFE04
  2. Former Ole Miss running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis signed with the Patriots, and his back-up, Bruce Hall, signed with the Bills. http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll...011/1287/SPORTS
  3. http://georgia.scout.com/a.z?s=135&p=2&c=750944 Buffalo signs Robert Felton G Arkansas.....This kid is inconsistent but a road grader. Great signing if someone can motivate him.
  4. I totally agree....I think Mayo is a top ten player. His skill set matches up very well with Willis from last year. If we are going to sit at eleven I prefer Clady, Albert, Mayo, or Mckelvin. We have to go impact player at that high of a pick and then trade back into round one to fill the need - Kelly, Sweed, or Hardy.
  5. Bills/Lito Sheppard...Peter King of SI.com and Sirius NFL Radio said he's "sure" the Bills are one of the teams that's interested in acquiring Eagles CB Lito Sheppard this weekend. Wouldn't that be sweet if we could just swap 1st round picks and give them like a fourth for Sheppard? http://www.eastcoastsportsnews.com/2008draftnews.html
  6. 1. Jerod Mayo 2. Derrick Harvey 3. Ryan Clady 4. Ali Highsmith 5. Tommy Blake
  7. If we ever go LB in first round, it better be Jerod Mayo and not Keith Rivers. I have a feeling Mayo is going to be P Willis special.
  8. per Pro Football Talk.com I like both of these guys, Thomas could be the most talented receiver in the draft.
  9. - Re-sign A-train -Trade next year's third round pick acquired in Mcgahee trade to Chicago for the rights to RB Adrian Peterson (N. Illinois?) -Sign RFA Randy Starks DRAFT #12 Patrick Willis MLB Ole Miss #43 Daymeion Hughes CB Cal #74 Steve Smith WR USC #92 pick allocated to Starks #107 Ben Patrick TE Delaware #169 Lorenzo Booker RB Florida St #203 Quincy Black OLB New Mexico or Travarous Bain CB Hampton #220 Steve Breaston WR Michigan
  10. With a lot of people clamoring for Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma, it reminded me of another option for the Bills. Adrian Peterson of the Bears would be worth a look. This guy is a huge question mark only because he has never been given an opportunity. He has shown flashes of brilliance when used in pre-season but has been stuck behind Benson and Jones the last couple years. Being a fantasy geek, I always read the pre-season analysis for each team and the coaches all speak very highly of his talent. Not sure if the Bears would move him now that they traded Jones, but it might be worth a phone call. If we are talking about Dillon, Rhodes, Brown, and A-train, I certainly think we should also look at young players that have some experience that need an opportunity.
  11. Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't hear Fletcher bitching about the move. I don't hear Schoebel bitching about the move. Come on TKO, you have been our voice and our leader, don't start going south on us now. I agree that this team is putting the pieces together and after watching the Marv Levy show last night, I am convinced he will go to work on both sides of the line in next year's draft and FA period. We have the cap space, we have very young players that are locked up, and this organization finally has a vision. Exciting times!
  12. Fresno St +3.5 Nebraska +18.5 TCU +1.5 Detroit +8.5 Tampa Bay +5.5
  13. He is still relatively young, was a dominant player in college and might just need a change of address. He has to be better than Eric Powell. I admit I am not all that familiar with his role with the Bears. Is it possible we could convert him into a DT to add to the rotation? I am sorry but Tim Anderson is brutal. I actually felt bad for him on a number of plays last Sunday. He is not that strong and has little to no agility.
  14. Setting draft boards up: It appeared that more teams are setting up their draft boards with needs in mind. There are a number of decision-makers in the NFL who are young enough to not have any experience in the NFL world in the pre-Collective Bargaining Agreement era. These people only know the world in which veteran players can be lost or gained in the weeks leading up to the draft. They have only worked in an environment that has had a salary cap and have witnessed very good players shown the door for financial reasons rather than skill reasons. The new wave of personnel decision-makers would like to take the "best players available" but also have to respond to holes in the roster. Consequently, the variations on draft boards is greater than ever and so we are surprised where certain players are taken. For example, Donte Whitner is an excellent fit for the Bills, yet many people felt they could get him lower in the draft. Not if no one is willing to trade with you when it's your pick! The desire for hybrid defensive backs: I say it 10 times a day that the NFL is a matchup game. NFL offensive coordinators are constantly trying to find matchups they can exploit. Reggie Bush and Vernon Davis are two prime examples of matchup nightmares for defenses. Teams countered with very high selections in this draft of players who can play safety and have corner skills. As Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin said right after the draft, "Having Reggie Bush join our division presents different kinds of problems." Well, by the 16th pick in the draft, the hybrid defensive backs were gone. Michael Huff (No. 7), Donte Whitner (No. 8) and Jason Allen (No. 16) are the type of athletes who can handle the matchup game offensive coordinators are trying to play. Huff has been a surefire top-10 pick all along, but Whitner and Allen climbed up the draft boards quickly as soon as the coaches evaluated their ability to match up. A reality check: As the draft wrapped up late Sunday afternoon and everyone had all the players they selected, I was reminded by a longtime NFL person that on opening day next September, we'll be lucky to see 15 of these young men in starting lineups around the league.
  15. I would be on board with the move if Tamba Hali was still available at that point. Something tells me that this guy will be a very productive pass rusher for many years. It is surprising to me that his stock has fallen so far after once being considered a top 10-15 pick. If we could start the draft with DaBrick and Hali, I would be very pleased.
  16. I have been observing the arguments for and against the switch at QB and both sides have some valid points. Kelly Holcomb will greatly improve our third down conversions. He is a smart QB with a quick trigger. He will dump it off to the open TE, RB, or slot man as long as we can keep the third down distance respectable. It's been mentioned several times that Holcomb has been unable to spark the team when inserted. Remember two things....He didn't have a week to prepare and the run/pass balance was not there by the time he got in the game. If we lean on our running game and get into third and short's, Holcomb will keep long drives alive and you will see a better defensive effort. All three components feed off each other, you will see it this weekend. BUFFALO 27 MIAMI 17
  17. if you think it is BS, take it up with the St Petersburg Times then... Buccaneers | Must Clear Room to Sign Draft Choices - from www.KFFL.com Thu, 28 Apr 2005 06:57:07 -0700 The St. Petersburg Times reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to clear about $4 million to $5 million under the salary cap to sign their draft choices.
  18. Even if Kenyatta Walker was cut, I have a funny suspicion that TD would not pursue him. He doesn't seem to be their type of player. If he does get cut, I think we should dump Teague, sign Walker and give Tucker the start at center. When Preston is ready (probably next year) then Tucker goes back to swing guard. Walker-Anderson-Tucker-Villarrial-Williams with Preston, Gandy, Geisinger, and Peters as depth.
  19. Admittedly I don't watch many Bears games but I do follow the highlights and stats. This guy ran hard when Thomas Jones went down, in fact he ran better than Thomas Jones did and probably should have been the starter. He hits the hole the same way Travis does, he is not very shifty but will get you the tough yards. This line is built for a power running game with Anderson, Williams, and Villarial all specializing in run blocking. I think he would be a nice addition at this point in free agency. I love Shaud as a change of pace, but if Mcgahee goes down for more than a couple weeks, you do not want Shaud carrying the load.
  20. In my opinion, this is a perfect backup for Mcgahee. If A-train signs, I make Henry sweat it out for awhile, see if there are any injuries in camp and then dump him for a 5th rounder. Best case scenario, we get A-train, Philly comes calling and we get a 3rd in next year's draft. The visit by Anthony Thomas was reported by WKBW.
  21. If Henry does get traded, we are looking at Mcgahee, Shaud, and Gates as RB's on the roster. I sure hope Gates shows us something. I gotta believe the plan is to keep Henry at this point. If not, the Bills would have made a better effort at bringing in players such as Mclendon or Reyes. Is Ryan Grant still available?
  22. Another guy that could have been developed into a solid corner or safety. I know there is a lot of competition for these free agents but I think the Bills really missed the boat on Shazor and Browner, especially given there is a need for depth and development of a young player to takeover for Milloy and/or Vincent in a couple years.
  23. there is nobody on this roster that will be ready to replace Clements. King will develop into a nice nickel or dime back if we are lucky, Greer was a nice find last year but will always be a backup. Thomas has skill but will not hold up as a starter.
