  1. true we are , after all. Bills fans!!!!!
  2. As bad a deal as it looks today it was a net benefit to the team. Granted DB was completely exposed in the latter half of his 1st year here and no more than serviceable there after, still until last seasons Steeler game it was not 100% certain he was done. And without him what?...We shall see with JP and this being entertainment the fans and franchise have renewed hope and will extend to JP much more tolerance. So the stands will fill
  3. 1) The Supreme Court, it is my contention, has set itself up as a nation of men in a number of cases. Thought experiment: if a Constitutional amendment should pass that states that restricts the Supremes to the pre- Marbury conception of Court power could the Supremes find an amendment unconstitutional? 2) "backhanded"..."disparaged" Clever argument. The essential question is that does the right of privacy due the child bearing entity outweigh the right to life of the matter in the womb? Does a right to privacy exist? Is it implied? Yes and yes? What do we do when two or more rights conflict with one another? A little old lady walking at a snails pace across an unmarked road is imposing her right to movement in opposition to my right? We must choose. 3)L:iberals inherent defect is that they argue that progressive action will lead us toward a more perfect world. Liberals are by definition activist. I am a traditionalist who believes that reason and time have proven the constitution to be outside of the Bible the greatest collection of wisdom ever. 4)Prior to Roe 39 states had more progressive abortion rights already on the books. Roe is a faulty decision- even pro abortion jurists say that. Some of them fear the penumbra is fragile ground first let me disclose that
  4. Ithought at first that this thread amounted to a joke, something so outlandish so as to be quickly seen as tongue in cheek. Now I see clearly.........
  5. There is no countervailing answer to judicial review. In the recent capital punishment case involving minors the Supremes found that " evolving social" factors permitted the change. RE: Roe Justice Douglas without a dissenting vote divined that the right to an abortion originated in a "penumbra" emanating from the ninth amendment! The Anti Federalist "Brutus" warned about judicial activism and "The Federalist Papers" said it would be unconstitutional do become so. I'm shocked politicians lied to us. Whatever one thought of the Terri Schiavo tragedy it proved that the judiciary has supreme power. Neither the State Legislature nor Governor nor Congress nor the President could countervail.
  6. It is judiciary that usurped power, viz: Marbury, when Marshall declared judicial hegemony. Read the Anti Federalist edited by Murray Dry in which the Anti f Federalists fear of a oppressive court is fore warned
  7. Then if you are not Catholic its proscription of bc has no effect on you.
  8. If you are not Catholic then it matters not. Was the decision not to have children based upon a sense of mercy?
  9. Patently untrue. My contention is that Protestantism ranges from Catholicism without a Pope to total free form ( Unitarian-Universalists and Quakers)- but in all cases the pivot point is hinged to Catholicism. To oversimplify Methodism is an outgrowth of Anglicanism which M's felt was too Catholic ; Presbyterians believe that they best mirror what the original Christian Church was like. Neither would exist without The Church. Of course Protestantism has grounds. In fact it was a good and necessary movement in order for Catholicism to right its ship. That I view the world through a Catholic eye glass is second nature. Consider mainline Protestantism (Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodists, Lutheran) is losing ground to Evangelicals. Catholicism, in the US, is in a holding pattern no doubt due to clueless and corrupt leaders such as Cardinall Law. Catholics it is my contention inveigh mightily against The Church and protest its lapses but when they do leave they leave to Evangelicanism which if Anglicanism is Catholic lite Evangelicanism is Catholic Heavy.
  10. 1) I was a second baseman. 2) Basted? I was not even blanched! 3) Understanding? Why not some more .......
  11. Without Roman Catholicism there is no response necessary.
  12. Since 1875 or so Papal Infallibility has been invoked twice; once for the Immaculte conception of Mary ( which frees up original sin problems via Mary to Jesus) and the Assumption of the Virgin- a politically incorrect term- Mary into heaven, that is she did not go to Purgatory. These are really mutually inclusive and I hope relatively benign. I think, repeat think that Protestants object to the RCC quasi-deification of Mary and to be truthful RCC has taken steps to de-deify Mary. Nonetheless, and this is the inherent strength of RCC much of the faithful hold special status for Mary. A strength because the hierarchy asserts one emphasis and the laity another. It is quite necessary for faith based institutions to adhere to core beliefs. If one is say Quaker one has to believe in mans ability to correctly form a conscience but even Quakers believe in Biblical and Christian truths. The RCC is arguably the most doctrine conscious.
  13. there are c 50 posts on this subject -almost all negative. The fact is the RCC generates interest like no other denomination. The contention that no one cares about Catholicism is manifestly false. I would argue that most of the negative posts are from lapsi. After Jesus (after all He was God) the two gratest early Catholic thinker/ leaders was St. Paul who got his early stripes merciless;y persecuting Christians and St. Augustine who so enjoyed sensual life that he prayed that his conversion not occur to early life was such fun. I really believe it Joe and the procession of John Pauls body was an epiphany.
  14. The law is a combination of common and natural law. Such minor details- life, liberty and property- are natural and immutable.
  15. the point is not WHY you should not be asked why you have that image but why the query would be insensitive. If it is possible to understand the grief of the parent it follows that the discomfort of the embryo/fetus/incompletely formed matter be considered. And if it was a moral choice then one should have no difficulty defending in fact extolling its justness
  16. Being Catholic is special.
  17. Not true. The RCC is the most decentralized institution in the world. Each diocese is financially responsible and on its own. Should the Boston Diocese sell its churches?
  18. I have but Catholic light is not my cup.....
  19. Oh right the glory days where when the 3 networks and NYT said/ printed all the news that fits
  20. True. Anglicans enjoy all the pomp without having to endure inspection. How would an Anglican with an ounce of critical analysis criticize the RCC for monarchical structure? Lutherans and Anglicans considered themselves true successors of RCC. But being Cathlic light is insufficient
  21. copernicus was a monk/mathemetician whose findings were accepted by Catholicism- viz: the Gregorian calendar- long before Protestant England who rejected it until 1752 (see Calendar riots 1752). In fact neither Christian strain deals well with change. As far as Protastants not giving a crap about Catholicism; nothing could be further from the truth. They are consumed by the RCC. Presbyterians do not differ with Methodists or Lutherans with Baptists anymore except that they agree that they are not RC. That is precisely my point: Protestantism protests Catholicism rather than promoting itself. Furthermore the depressing fact facing Protestantism is that few are concerned or interested in matters religious except that which involveswhat the RCC believes or does not believe! Quick what is the Methodist view of abortion? Or is it that Methodists do not have a view on abortion and what is more telling would anyone care?
  22. but the "hound of Heaven" is unremitting.
  23. Sorry but the "problem" with "Protestantism" is that its name tells you more of what it is not, than what it is.
  24. au contraire. This Pope was unrelenting, perhaps even unforgiving when it came to priestly abuse of the young. As for restitution the Boston Diocese is practically bankrupt.
  25. Is there something I said that was not pleasing to you or incorrect that you take exception to?
