1. That's the first thing I had to eat in Paris. Would love to try yours.

If I had to pinpoint the foods I make the best it would be the long braises that the French make so well such as cassoulet, coq au vin, beef bourgignonne, blanquette de veau and my favorite choucroute. Fall and winter is my favorite time to cook and eat!!

  2. Cassoulet would be excellent. You have the little cast iron roasters? Olivier was going to get me some, but we never got around to it.

I have one, but only holds enough for about 2 people. To get your lips smacking for my cassoulet, when I worked at one of the top French restaurants in LA the Times food critic, Ruth Reichel, who is now the editor for Gourmet, used to come in and order two. One to eat there and the other to take home. But I'm open to suggestions...I can pretty much make anything.

  3. I had potato onion with my pork loin last night.

And galupkies rule. Ever use red cabbage? Makes them a little crispier.

Maybe we should set up a pierogi exchange? Our politics may differ, we may fight, argue and call each other names, but no one should be deprived of pierogi.

I really wish we all lived closer together. I'd have you all over and I would cook a wonderful meal. Left, right, liberal, conservative. A great gourmet meal, excellent wine would help bring us all together. Everyone put down their favorite dish and we can vote on it. Mine...due to the chilly weather that is upon us would be cassoulet with bottle of Burgundy. For dessert, my famous tart tatin. MMMMMMMMM food!!

  4. <sigh>  You have to be able to define it before you can figure out how to get there.

You may as well ask: Can we pfthileromnie the war on terrorism?  Well...what's pfthileromnie?  I don't know...but can we pfthileromnie the war?

I'm not sure about the war, but I sure pfthileromnied my wife last night. :D

  5. I'm sure congressmen in the halls of congress are using profanities about GWB behind closed doors...a !@#$ Bush sign is harmless..who does it hurt..i here students say !@#$ you every in the hall of my schools

Since when did we hand out teaching credentials to people that cannot spell? Listen folks, this, by far, will do more harm to this country than four more years of Bush.

  6. link

Oh I'm sure they ALL do it.  Like those 80,000 people who turned out to see Kerry and Springsteen today...I'm sure it was really only 79,599 and the rest were Kerry staffers and their families, not REAL voters...

No, it was probably more like 79,950 there to see Springsteen there rest there to see Kerry. ;)

  7. We want reality, whether it is pleasant, optimistic or frightening.  By the way, you still haven't answered my question, how many Americans were killed by Saddam Hussein between 9/11 and our invasion of Iraq?  It is a simple question isn't it?

I'll say zero Alex. So we wait until he does. How many Americans did Hitler kill prior to our entering WWII?

  8. Have you ever gone to his website to read his plan?

And can you explain exactly what GB's plan is?

    77809

Just did that, what a load of crap. I was as if it were written by the local senior running for class president. Plans, plans, plans. No real plan on how to pay for it. Oh yeah, by increasing taxes on the rich. Well I've got news for him, the rich are best equiped to offset those increases through hiring good CPAs and planners to offset those increases through deductions, deferrals and investing in plans where the income in not taxed at all. Why do you think Theresa paid only 12.5% in taxes. Good luck Johnny boy.

  9. Yeah, that last part would be nice but if it was going to happen, it should have happened a couple decades ago (at least).  Buffalo is full of people who will vote Democrat 100% of the time without ever wondering why the city (and region) is in a downward spiral.  Maybe we're just a few more unions and a few more tax increases away from that economic boom......

Buffalo's number one export is people.  And that's because there's no reason why anyone on the outside would ever want to invest in the region given all the other places they could invest their money.

My mother almost cried when I told her I was a Republican. Then I asked her how she felt on some of the basic conservative values. When I got her answers I said, "Mom, guess what, you're a Repbulican too."

  10. Why are some folks so concerned with whether the guy on the street in France or Jordan likes us? News Flash! They have NEVER liked us. We've given them something real visible to B word about.

    76508

That is so true. We were in France in the spring of 2001. Spent some time with a guy who we were importing some things from. Took us out to lunch and in typical French fashion we proceeded to down three bottles of wine......at LUNCH! Well needless to say tongues loosened up. Yes BiB, they didn't like us before 9/11, they liked us for about 24 minutes after 9/11 and went back to not liking us thereafter. Has NOTHING to do with who is President. They don't understand us, and don't care to. This Iraq war just gives them a tangible reason not to like us.
