1. Would you please point out to me where I said ANY OF THAT in my post?!

Unlike you, I do not PRESUME.  Certainly I believe that husbands and wives talk.  But as an outsider who doesn't know EITHER person or the dynamics of their relationship outside what they feed to the public through the press, making a decision based on a spouse would be a very shallow judgement indeed.

If that's part of your judgement process, that's you, not me.

    150802

It sure is easy to torque your wingnut. :) And if you don't ever consider the candidate's spouse, maybe you should. If memory serves me correctly didn't one come close to drafting a government policy on healthcare that was a disaster?

And I do believe calling a spouse of a candidate superficial is pretty much the same as saying their opinions are not influential?

  2. As I woman I can honestly say I NEVER consider a candidate's spouse. Never.  It's immaterial and a non-issue.  It's a judgement based on superficialities, no different than judging by the candidate's hair color, cut or suit or personal mannerisms.

I don't adore Mrs. Bush and I don't hate her.  I never think of her just like I never thought of Pat Nixon, Lady Bird Johnson, Nancy Reagan, Roslyn Carter, Barbara Bush, Hillary, etc.

I likewise don't adore either Karen Hughes or Condi Rice.  They are both smart women, no doubt about it, but I wouldn't want to be like either one of them.

And by the you'd find that anyone who ever met me, and quite a few who haven't, consider me to be a VERY strong woman.  So I guess I am in a better position to judge than some.

    150681

Do you really think that any first lady has no say in a President's decision making process. Most husbands, me included, trust our wives opinion enough to ask what they think of certain things. You must have a pretty low opinion of woman if you think that none of the First Ladies are capable of an influential opinion.

  3.   Besides, in the first decade of there being no estate tax, tax revenues would be about $4 Trillion dollars less.  Given the already stultifying deficits we have, how in the world would we make up for the loss of $4 Trillion dollars of revenues?  Any thought that you could some how cut that much money from the already mired in deficit budget is delusional.  I am not sure that this is the kind of wild tax scheme we need to indulge inorder to come to the rescue of besieged multi-millionaires.

    150625

By eliminating the step up in basis. That will effect everyone, not just heirs of multi-millionaires. And with the run up in real estate values over that past several years this could be a huge windfall for the government.

  4. Counter fiberglass bodied car bombs. 30 million a year for R&D, plus three interns.

    B52 launched AGM-129, W80 mod one...on the way...

Can I wear a really neat uniform with lots of big medals?

    142568

No you can't, that would cause (at least with the males here) medal envy. You may have lots of medals, but no BIG ones. Ok?

  5. This is the same guy who tried to appeal to the "Christian" natures of his constituents in a plea to raise money specifically earmarked for education. The Lord knows Alabama is perennially at or near the bottom of the heap both in money spent per student as well as SAT/ACT scores, # of high school graduates and # of college-bound seniors.

He was defeated soundly by a 75% margin.

I'm just surprised that the GOP hit machine hasn't gone after him yet.

I give him a lot of credit for not only having principles but standing by them - he's got to be a lonely guy in that party.

    141811

So let me get this straight, when you agree with the priciples that a politician stands by you give him credit, but when a certain president stands by his that you don't agree with he is being stubborn and pig headed. Ahhh, the hypocrite is at is again. :w00t:

  6. Remember when a BJ was called "getting a lewinsky." Well, American vernacular is adding a new phrase.....Being from a Red State.

I just think it's funny that "being stupid" has been replaced with "being from a red state" in vernacular.  Someone might say, "what is he from a red state?"  I love that.

    Blue States=

    more cultured

    more educated

    contributes much more to economy.

more likely to get hit by terrorist attack.

    Red States=

more likely to vote with bibles instead of brains.

This wasn't very intelligent or well thought out the FIRST time it was posted. What gave you the idea we'd want to read it a second time???

Oh by the way, I'm from a red county, voted Bush and have never read the Bible and have only been to church a handful of times in the past 30 years. All to attend weddings.

  7. Chef, not to get too far off topic, but where did you used to work in LA?

I picked up the Chasen's cookbook, primarily for their chili recipe. Apparently in 1962 when in Rome shooting "Cleopatra," Liz Taylor had Chasens ship her ten quarts of their chili. (And it's the best chili I've ever made.)

    114262

I worked at several Hollywood hangouts. The most famous was Ma Maison, where Wolfgang Puck got his start. My favorite celeb was Orson Wells who used to come in almost every night. They'd sneak (if you can sneak a 300lb person) in through the kitchen. He had a table in the bar. I used to go out to the bar just to listen to him talk. Incredible voice.

  8. I always assumed Maher was gay.

I never met Maher but I could tell stories about several stars including BonJovi and Billy Joel ... but I won't.

    113845

When I used to work at some of the top restaurants in LA I was "fortunate" enough to cook for many celebs. In hindsite I wish I had taken notes on what they ate and how the presented themselves. It would have made a good book. One in particular.....Elizabeth Taylor in 1983..... :D

  9. [Light cigar and cue A-Team theme music]

I've seen film of C-130 gunship suppression from Vietnam (Wow!). Couple that with today's  imaging technology and you can't help but wonder what goes through the mind of someone looking down the wrong end of the barrel.

Trying to add an attachment to this post. Nose art for Herky Gunship "Azrael: Angel of Death," which, correct me if I'm wrong, happens to be the Angel of Death from the Koran?

You gotta love the kills on the nose of the gunship.......camels!! :D

  10. If it makes you feel better, I don't like Jim Carrey's movies at all (with a couple exceptions) but I met him (with Rene Zellwegger) at a Meat Puppets concert backstage a few years ago and he seemed like a great guy, at least for the hour or so we were in the same room. So we're even.  :D

    113775

I've seen interviews with Jim Carrey and it does seem as though he's a great guy. Even though his stuff is rather sophmoric he seems like someone I would like to have a beer with. Maher on the other hand, I'd probably dump the beer on him. Or better yet, let him hit on my wife and have her throw her drink in his face while I watched from the end of the bar. Now that's my kind of voyeurism. With my wife anyway.

  11. I am not looking at him as a person, I am looking at him as a comedian. If you asked me if I liked Bill Maher, I would say I hate the guy because he's a jerk but I think he's funny. Hey, I met Jim Kelly very briefly a couple times and he was an !@#$, too, in my opinion. And a lot of other people's opinion. But he was my favorite player ever on the Bills. Man, if you had to like everyone in Hollywood or everyone in sports or everyone in politics based on their personalities out of the spotlight, there would be very slim pickens I'm afraid. There are a lot of egomaniacs out there.

    113766

I know that, and that is why I rarely go to the movies and have been turned off of sports for quite some time now. Yes, even the Bills. That is why you don't see me over at TSW too often. If I felt the same way you did about any comedian, there is no way they could get me to laugh. But that's just me.

  12. I like Bill Maher a lot as a comedian, even when I don't agree with him. And I think he is a pretty smart guy, and good at his job. I have, however, been at a couple parties with him (He's a good friend of a friend) in Hollyweird and he is an A-1 bona fide ass-hole, especially concerning, and to, women. he made me sick. I really detest him for that, and I'm surprised this hasn't happened earlier.

    113750

Wait a minute. You have first hand knowledge that this guy is A-1 bonafide a-hole towards woman to the point of making you sick. You say you detest him however you like him a lot as a comedian. :D Holy smokes, if I felt that way about anyone there is no way they could ever make me laugh. Actually I would not give them a second of an opportunity to make me laugh.

  13. No if the laryngitis could only spread to your fingers.  :P

    113417

Actually I'm home "sick" today. Had an angiogram yesterday. Arteries are all clear! Doctor said that looked great! So BiB, pass the fatty sausage, pate and foie gras. I'm loading up for the winter! Now if we can only figure out what's causing these damn palpitations.

  14. Been sick as a dog all week (103 fever Monday and Tuesday), it's kept me from working - and meeting a deadline.  (It's still keeping me from talking - I've got terrible laryngitis.  Melody's thrilled.   :P )

So the short version is: I'm probably working.  But she's the boss...you really have to ask her.

    112933

Now if the laryngitis could only spread to your fingers.

  15. Don't you know? The wacko Christian right, when unified, has a way of scaring people to the polls... 2004 was a stealth mission, people won't be fooled again...

    110849

Stealth mission? Answer me why the White House will have been occupied by a Republican 20 out of the last 28 years once Bush's second term is up? Fool me once shame on me, fool me 20 out of 28 shame on......
