I honestly believe that if we get a big-bodied WR who can go up and get the ball, as well as have the ability to beat a DB from time to time down the field, it will open up everything else for Brown/Beasley/Knox, and Josh will throw for 35 TD's next year. It will open up the field and coverages that much more. Now Josh will still have to read that defense correctly and make an accurate throw, but it should help in all facets of spreading out a defense and giving him options.

If that big-bodied WR is Shenault, sounds good.  If it's Tee Higgins, not so much.

    I have never heard this!

I will say though that it seemed like the Bills were getting ready to move on before that season, as they drafted Losman in the 2004 draft. So it seemed like it was only a matter of time that Bledsoe would be gone anyway.

True, though it wasn't uncommon back then for rookie QBs to ride the pine for 2-3 years before starting.  Having missed most of training camp & his rookie year with a broken leg, giving JP more time to develop probably would've been the sensible thing to do.  Then again, the drought era bills weren't exactly known for being sensible.

  3. Sports Illustrated ran a story ~15 years ago about how Bledsoe punched his ticket out of Buffalo during the coin toss of that fateful game against the Steelers' backups.  Allegedly, the coaches told Drew which direction they wanted to kick & he instead chose the other direction.  The Steelers scored the majority of their points (23 of 29, iirc) going in said direction, though in all fairness, the Steelers had choice of direction in the 2nd half.  This is not to say that we would've won the game if Drew did as instructed, but it was another example of Drew thinking he knew better than everybody else.

We're really counting on Dawson Knox to develop further if we're signing Olsen. Would be a solid vet signing and probably help Knox quite a bit.

For all the people saying to spend on Austin Hooper i think we have a similar one in Knox. Roughly same size, 3rd rounders. Knox had more receiving yards in his rookie year albeit with a far worse catch%. Though having Matt Ryan throw to you in your rookie season might help a bit.

How much does Hooper cost in FA? How about Olsen?

Hooper & Henry are both expected to fetch somewhere in the vicinity of $10M/yr.  With the current 3 team bidding war, Olsen will probably get something in the $7M/yr range.

Hunter Henry is the best of this group and should be the target.  Not a fan of Olsen signing.  Too old.

    Agreed.

TL/DR version:  Hunter Henry would be my top offseason priority.  Option 2 would be to trade a 5th for Cameron Brate..  Option 3 would be to sign Vance McDonald for 2 years / $12M.

    Long version:

A healthy Hunter Henry has top 5 TE potential and could instantly become the most dangerous weapon in our passing game.  If we're a few players away, I say he's one of them.

Austin Hooper is a solid player, but not close to Henry's level.  He's been healthier, but if you're williing to excuse the entire 2018 season that Henry lost to injury (with the reasoning that it could happen to anyone), then Hooper has only played 2 games more than Henry.

David Njoku & OJ Howard both have potential, but would cost a pick.  Njoku could possibly be had for a 3rd.  Arians probably wouldn't give up Howard for less than a 2nd, if only to torment him for another year.  Both would be cheap contracts this season, with a potential 5th year option.  We have the money, so that shouldn't be the deciding factor.  Also, this regime's track record in the 3rd is Harrison Phillips, Devin Singletary, and yes, TE Dawson Knox.  Therefore, I don't think I'd be giving up the pick.

    Never much cared for Ebron's game.  He's a sub-par blocker, and a sub-60% passer throwing to a sub-60% receiver isn't a recipe for success.

Cameron Brate for a 5th could be a worthy consolation prize if we can't get Henry.  I like his game better than Hooper's, and he's on the hook for a very manageable 4 years / $26.8M.

Jacob Hollister strikes me as just above JAG status.

I'm somewhat intrigued by Vance McDonald, who's a decent blocker and has looked like a monster at times in the passing game.  I've also wondered why it was so sporadic (injuries have played a part), and why his TE coach so emphatically stated that McDonald wouldn't be the Steelers' full-time starting TE prior to last season.  Say what you will about the Steelers (I don't like them), but they seem to guess right more often than most teams when it comes to utilizing & retaining their personnel.   Still...

Young Tyler Eifert was a beast when healthy, but that wasn't very often.  Now he's a shell of his former, rarely healthy, self.

As for Olsen, 1) I don't mind having the position coaches mentor the players, and 2) enough with the former Panthers already.

  6. Never heard of him, but...

ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques suggests the Bills as a landing spot for free agent Josh Norman.

This is dot-connecting, as Norman played for Sean McDermott during their time in Carolina. The Bills are in the market for a No. 2 corner with Levi Wallace and Kevin Johnson both free agents, so Norman to Buffalo makes some sense. After a disastrous 2019, Norman should settle for a prove-it deal this offseason.

  7. Speaking in a Tuesday radio interview, Chargers GM Tom Telesco said he "likes our internal options" to replace Philip Rivers.

Those "internal options" are Tyrod Taylor and 2019 fifth-rounder Easton Stick. Taylor is an NFL-level starter, but a low-end one. He would make sense as a bridge quarterback if the Chargers decide to go the draft route. Should the Bolts decide to get in on the free agent frenzy — every quarterback in a deep market figures to get linked to L.A. — Taylor's $5 million salary could make him too expensive to be a backup

If Tyrod's $5M is too expensive for San Diego, how would we feel about bringing him back to Buffalo to back up Allen?

I’m not sure they’ll bother. Maybe another low dart throw like tyree hoping to strike a little fools gold. But let’s be honest, if Josh is hurt long term the season is over anyways. They can still ground and pound a win or two with Barkley and be ok.

This sounds like a loser mentality and it doesn't have to be that way.  The Saints went 5-0 with Bridgewater, & Tannehill's Titans played in the AFC Championship.  With the number of FA QBs + the depth in the draft, there will be much better options than Barkley.
