Was thinking about ways to make a dynamic improvement in the 2018 Buffalo Bills.

    Here is my trade offer.

Bills offer pick 12, 22, 53, 1st and 2nd 2019 picks for Giants 2nd pick and Odell Beckham Jr.

Would you make this offer and would the Giants be interested.

Assuming Cleveland takes Josh Allen, who would you select at pick number 2?

O'Dell is obviously talented,  but he would not be happy on a rebuilding team.  He would be a disruption in the locker room. But, if that trade was made, I still favor Josh Rosen.  I like his accuracy and size.  I think the other issues about him are over hyped.

I can remember when the primary position in the NFL was running back.  Running backs are now paid on a par with kickers and punters.

Over time, the game became so QB-centric that a five-game starter in San Francisco becomes the league's richest player, until (weeks later) a QB with more career losses than wins becomes the league's richest player, until (a few months later) teams are scrambling to give away years of first round picks for any of four or five unproven college quarterbacks.

Could there/will there be a visionary (or a visionary coach/GM/owner troika) who envision a new way -- to draft, pay, trade and play the game on the field -- in such a way that leverages the a$$ets now devoted to QB into a competitively superior team with a totally different approach to the game?

I invite comments from any free thinkers out there who know way more about this game than I do, and who are sick of reading about hand size and how many years of first round draft picks it will cost us to see if Joe Schmoe from Kokomo State will ever pan out.  The game is over-due for a revolution.

I am optimistic that the visionaries that you refer too are McBean.   Look how they took a team to the playoffs with very little talent in key skilled positions.

I am amused by all the experts who know about the "can't miss" rookie QB, who can perform miracles without an offensive line, wide receivers or linebackers on defense.  ..... Please remember that or offensive line was bailed out by Taylor's feet and that we have aging ,declining guards, that we lost our starting center and traded away a rotational starting tackle.  Three new faces are needed there................  We have one starting linebacker and need two more.  Somebody from the first two rounds would do.....................  Our wide receivers scare nobody, but Mr. Miracle Quarterback is going to have those guys free down the sidelines for a 50yard gain and shaking loose from coverage over the middle and getting an average 15 yard YAC on every play.  Don't think so.  At least one pick in the first 3 rounds is needed............Oh, did you forget that we lost some people as FA who had "DB" as their position?   Maybe one more pick in the 1st three rounds is needed here...........................................BUT lets ignore all that and trade the first two rounds from this year and next year's first for a 50:50 shot.  Yea, right.

With all these needs (six plus a QB = 7) I can not see going in the direction of trading away the draft picks necessary to field a competitive team in order to get a possible star to have wet dreams about.  The games are won in the "trenches".  A cute rookie QB with a broken leg is not good for anything.  I say we should do the following.  Stay at #12 in case the QB that the Bills could live with is available.  If not, they trade down and get your Bart Starr, Jim Kelly or Dan Marion with a later pick.    (with arm twisting, moving up 3-4 spots and losing next year's 2nd rounder would be okay)

Here is what we could get with a trade-down from the #12 pick.

down to     gets us this overall pick

    ==============================

    #14............100th player  (4th round)

    #16.............78th player  (3rd round)

    #18............60th player    (2nd round)

    #20............55th player

    #22.............48th player

    #24.............44th player

    #26.............40th player

    #28.............36th player

    #30.............32nd player

    #32...............30.5th player (1st round)

    .

    .

From Walter Football, here is a list of the players in that 30-55 range that we get for "free" by trading down. (I don't agree that all these guys will be available this low, but it gives you the idea).

A good center,  a good linebacker, a good WR or a  good RB.  You get an extra solid player, probably a starter, for  your effort.     If the best QB shots are gone at #12, build a strong team with those 7 picks and take a QB out of the top 15.

This is an amazing dose of reality.   Thank you.   Very well done.

I will never understand this mentality as a ‘fan’. Honestly you must realize people can improve at their jobs. That’s just common sense. I bet you got better at yours or you improved in school if that’s where you still are. Do you concede that people can improve at things with more experience , exposure, and practice?

It's  not uncommon for a receiver take a year or two to adjust to the NFL.   Zay is gong to look better in year 2.  Let's hope he can get better with his personal issues.

Because it's taking too long to get to the draft, and some of us like to speculate.  Just for fun.  Why so serious?  Jeez.  Go away and come back on the 26th if it's that annoying.

Just having a little fun myself.

You have to admit these threads do get repetitive.

Let's start a new thread " Why Mike white will be the #1 pick."

  6. Oh good, another quarterback thread!

We should move up and draft : Allen, no Rosen, no Darnold, no Mayfield.  We should not move up.  Just take the best qb we can at 12.  No a qb is too important, we should pay what ever we need to get one of the top 4.  We should draft Lamar Jackson.  No he is just like TT.  We should build our team with our store of draft picks.

The qb class is awesome!  This qb class stinks!

    That about covers it.

Why do we keep doing this???

It is for sure.  First couple weeks I’d recommend getting there by 8 or so to get a decent seat.  It’s a dive bar with amazing food and bartenders are a good time

I look forward to it.  Thanks for the tip.

Honestly the Bills stole the term from Texas A&M also

they have had it on their stadium for a long long time as well

Alright.  Then we're the first NFL team to use the 12th man term.  Does that work?

I was going to ask how folks have taken to the Knights. Hockey is probably the last sport you would think would work in the desert Southwest. Although the ECHL Wranglers did very well for years at the Orleans Arena.

Yes they did.  The Wranglers had a loyal following.

Hockey is doing well in Phoenix  and Southern California as well.  The support in Las Vegas is amazing.

The people in Las Vegas are nuts about the Knights. I doubt they stay that way. Back when we had the Las Vegas Thunder of the IHL, they started off the same as the Knights, they were really good and they used to get 14-15,000 a night at the Thomas and Mack Center, but over the years, as the excitement wore off and the team started to suck, the attendance plummeted. The last season they were there we went to a few games and there were only 3-4,000 people in the building, then the team folded. Pretty much every other "Pro" sports team there has suffered a similar fate, the fans come in droves at first, but it doesn't last and the team eventually folds, hopefully I'm wrong, we'll see.

I hope that is not the case.   The ownership and GM remind me of the Bills brain trust.   They have made all the right moves over the last year.  Let's hope they can sustain their success.

  10. Sorry to get back on topic, but reading the deluge of the qbs available this year, I am not sold on any of them as a sure thing.  I an in favor of staying at 12 and follow our draft board. Pick the best qb that falls to us either at 12 or 22 .

This draft has too much talent at other positions to give up the farm to reach for an over hyped qb.  This has the feel of the 2013 draft when the Bills brain trust had to get their qb.  We all saw how well that worked out.

Vegas baby! Sorry, just wanted to say Go Knights! Did any of you see the best goal of the year by Karlsson tonight? Whoa Nellie!https://www.nhl.com/video/t-294809034

As much as I love the Sabres, I have been a Las Vegas resident since 2001.  It has been an amazing season for the Golden Knights.

That goal by Karlsson was a thing of beauty.

It is going to be fun to see how this upstart team (Las Vegas born) can do in the playoffs.  Each player plays with a chip on his shoulder.   On their opening night they had a moving ceremony honoring the victims and survivors of the 1 October shooting.   Last night, their last home game of the regular season, they raised a banner with the names of the 58 players that list their lives in the shooting.   They announced that the number 58 would never be worn by a Golden Knight.

This town has embraced the team in an amazing fashion.  I doubt that the raiders will get that kind of support from the Las Vegas fan base.

    Go Knights!!!

Try and take the Wonderlic yourself.  Some questions are easy, others involve time.  But the hard part is you only have 12 minutes to answer 50 questions.  The time thing makes it very difficult to finish whole test, and then when you look at remaining time and see how many questions are unanswered- it's easy to panic.  It is a hard test in that aspect.  Don't believe me- take that test and post your score

As a fan during that era I don’t hold Ralph in that sort of contempt. He bought a team in a little industrial city that wasn’t even his first choice. I’m sure he didn’t do it to make big money and never saw a merger with the mighty NFL. Then the AFL took off and Ralph was sitting on a run down old stadium in a small market with little chance of major income growth. He signed a couple of stars to keep the team viable and later saw his team get so bad that they qualified to draft Bruce Smith at number one. Fast forward and Jim Kelly chooses to reject the Bills for another league but returns to Buffalo and ....away it went!

Dump on Ralph....I don’t think so.

I agree with you.  We owe Ralph a great deal.  He make sure that after his death, the bills would remain in Buffalo.  It just bothered me that in the 70's I was so hopeful that the bills would regain the glory of the 60's championship teams only to find out that Ralph would not let that happen.  He turned it around.  I just changed the way I look at those days in the 70's .

As was stated earlier, Ralph could be very generous to charities and to fellow owners.  I will never dump on Mr. Wilson.
