The only game I remember being fixed for the Bills in decades was San Francisco in 1998. That was pretty obvious if you remember that one. The Bills were big underdogs and the refs grabbed the bag that day. On the other hand there have been countless games where the Bills got hosed badly for many years.
I do not remember the SF 1998 game. But you believe it was fixed. Why?
Was Bills/Giants fixed this year when there was no DPI on the last play of the game or was it a missed call?
I'm more on the bandwagon that NFL officiating is a difficult proposition and wildly inconsistent. I haven't made the leap to scripting/fixing. As soon as I make that leap I'm out. It happened with boxing for me so I know it's possible. And the gambling angle makes the conversation more relevant imo.

Just answer me one question. How could it be fixed? Who is fixing it, who is benefiting? And how are they doing it with no leaks. For it to be fixed at a conspiracy theory level, there would need to be a LOT of people involved. No one gets mad and blabs? No whistleblower gets approached and leaks?
Come on man. Bad calls happen because the NFL rules are too anal retentive and abstract to be enforceable. That's what you are seeing as fixed. It's the same old "the refs hate the Bills" being the reason they sucked for so long.
5 minutes ago, The Red King said:As I said earlier, "fixed" does not equal "scripted". All you said applies to scripted, the word you used. I'm saying the NFL can have the refs nudge games on a week to week basis to improve the narrative or affect betting outcomes. No, I don't believe it's at all possible to script a season, but that's not what I asked.
I took the liberty of editing @CodeMonkey's post substituting scripted for fixed. @CodeMonkey made no mention of scripting/fixing a season - not sure why you added that. Any additional comments with the change from scripted to fixed?
For the record, I 100% agree with @CodeMonkey - but at the same time I'm always open to alternative viewpoints.

It’s 100% fixed by the refs. Not every game. But games that would result in a favorable outcome for the league. And it’s done by the refs. Holding happens almost every play. Too easy to manipulate when the talent levels are so close
So you are convinced that the NFL is 100% fixed? Are you a Bills fan? If so, why? Do you think it will be fixed in the Bills favor at some point? If so, why? Or better yet, when?

I apologize in advance, I was hospitalized Tuesday and have had three surgeries to correct a blood clot and damage to tissue on my right leg. The doctor is going to let me get out of ICU sometime tomorrow, but I will just be moved to a regular floor, I wont be at home where I watch 5-8 games a year or at the game venue where I watch the rest.
Getting old sucks
All the best on your recovery. I'm hoping/expecting to get my Mom out of Huntington Hospital tomorrow (in since Wednesday) and it has the potential of disrupting me watching from home.

I dunno why they called this an "apparent" tornado. It's a tornado. Cool to watch though.
Waterspout? I'm not well versed but I think there's a difference.

Ask whether it's a 24 hour clock before making the bet.

This is a great line.

I've been enjoying the hell out of the Josh ride. The story is unfinished and I hope and expect the highest of highs will happen before the final chapter.

Right now they’re the lovable losers, a franchise with likeable players starving for a trophy. If they can start cashing in and winning some championships, the hatred will rise with their level of success.
This is so true. I remember telling my kids after the Cubs finally broke their WS drought they were no longer the lovable Cubbies - they became just another team that idgaf about.

Belichick hates the jets. I would be very leery taking them against the pats.
Definitely not the commanders when a win for the cowboys clinches the division.
All just imo of course lol
There is no way I'd take the Jets over the Pats in what might be Belichick's last game as Pats HC. The hatred for the Jets flows through him.

Agreed. Not sure where you stand, but I'm middle of the road. Nothing I've seen this year has alleviated concerns or inspired confidence over concerns

So I'm a new years Eve baby, I think me being a last minute tax write off is why I was my parents favorite growing up. The reason I am bringing this up is, last time they played on my birthday was 2017, we broke the curse that year in dramatic fashion, I think the football gods will smile on us again tomorrow and we'll get a dolphins loss and 7 days from tomorrow we'll be playing for the division. I legitimately thought this season was a wash in November, but this team has grit and resilience and an all world QB and leader. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, and have a safe and happy New Year's Eve, Go Bills.
Happy Birthday! You and my sister share the same birthdate. I always thought it was a kick in the @ss that every year there are massive parties on her birthday and they are never for her. lol.
As to our Bills - the last time the Bills played on my birthday was the 12 man debacle. I hope and expect a better outcome on your natal anniversary.
Have a great day. Go Bills!

Thanks. It's an interesting discussion - and I respect the opposing viewpoint as well.

They couldn't break 21 vs Louisville and he didn't throw a TD vs Florida with under 200 yards
It's not enough to beat Texas or bama or Michigan etc
While I understand your point of view, I'm completely unswayed.
And while I don't expect to sway your opinion, I'll restate mine in a different way. The undefeated FSU team earned the right to be in the FCS championship - even given the very real possibility that they 'might' not play a competitive game.

It depends who is next up... This is college football in the 21st century
They know every backup and rising star... We know how many stars are attached to the backups.. how they have looked In limited action etc
If you are scoring 35 a game and lose your QB and still score 28 a game ... Sure ... The team hasn't lost much ... If you start scoring 18 a game... It's not enough
So it's more about what folks think will happen next rather than what actually happened on the field. Brilliant.

It's about putting in the best four teams come January...
Not November
They don't have the dogs to replace their star quarterbacks injury so they are not a top 4 team
Of all the excuses to exclude FSU this is the weakest imo. It flies in the face of actual competition and what FSU accomplished on the field.
If one of the remaining top 4 teams loses their star QB a minute into their next game should we deem them unworthy and force them to forfeit the game?

A playoff game for FSU would have been equally pointless.
Quite likely. But imo FSU earned the chance. Otherwise, why bother playing regular season games?

Interesting strategy.
You know you're going to get pantsed by a bigger, smarter, stronger, faster, tougher team so you quit before the game even starts and then you can walk around saying we could have won if we wanted to.
I suppose if every starter that opted out had played and scored a TD, they could have made up the 70 points they needed.
Another way to look at it is - why bother playing in a pointless game. Perhaps FSU should have taken that point of view before the season started.
Do you wonder if the league is fixed?

Apologies if my intent wasn't clear. I felt like you dodged CodeMonkey's questions based on a tenuous distinction between scripted vs. fixed. So I re-posed the questions using fixed instead of scripted in the hope that you might address the substance of CodeMonkeys's questions.
