An article, with many sources links within. Most recent link: Sen. Lankford touting a bill to kill stadium construction tax credits.
From Sen. Lankford:
The federal government is responsible for a lot of important functions, but financing sports stadiums for multi-million—sometimes billion—dollar franchises is definitely not one of them,” said Lankford. “Using billions of federal taxpayer dollars for the subsidization of private stadiums when we have real infrastructure needs in our country is not a good way to prioritize a limited amount of funds. I’m pleased to work with Senator Cory Booker to introduce this bill to eliminate the use of federal tax-exempt bonds for sports stadiums. Everyone likes free federal money to build their expensive stadiums, but with $20 trillion in federal debt, this is waste that needs to be eliminated.”This bill is being advertised as bipartisan. I can easily see this being signed into law. Why? Because most of the 32 teams have built their signature palaces, so there is little political risk for the Senate in prohibiting future funding (as Fed. tax breaks) for stadiums. Everyone has their palace stadium, except Buffalo.. and whomever else.
Loss of Fed. tax credits associated with a new stadium could be a gift, or a kick in the teeth for WNY.
A gift:
- because local tax payers wouldn't be crushed by the debt of new stadium
- the NFL owners would back off of their insistence of a new Bills stadium
Or, a kick in the teeth:
- NFL owners continue their insistence on a new Buffalo stadium; when Buffalo can't come through due to loss of Fed. tax credits, NFL future actions** would make the Bills uncompetitive financially, thus uncompetitive on the field, starting a chain of events forcing the them to move
Thoughts?

** I don't know what the owners would do to penalize Bflo, but creativity driven by greed knows no bounds
-
Didn't they just do that about a year ago?
Sort of. The Ralph is sporting a tie now. Unfortunately it's a clip on, compared to other stadiums.
The Ralph has good bones. Build around those bones a bit and save the taxpayer some bucks compared to a new downtown palace.
Pegs should do just enough enhancement to show the other owners that he tried. Show his league partners he's a team player ... yet not break the local bank.
-
Dress up the Ralph. There. I said it.

Phuck Maclin.
He was KC's problem.. that's why they cut him. Now he's Baltimore's problem.
Whew.. Bills dodged a bullet there.

53 pages of comments for a trade rumor?
53 pages of comments for a trade rumor, originated by a "privately run website run by a couple of lads who love their Rugby League, Australian Rules Football and NFL"?
I'm speechless.

what are you called if you see 19-0 baby ! ??
A time traveler in 2019, watching the Bills missed the playoffs for 19 consecutive years.
Kidding... I'm more optimistic than that.
-
....
I just want to see it given time to work. Give it 4 years.... do not get trigger happy if their are blips. Stay the course. I think in McDermott we have a winner.
Agree wholeheartedly.
Also, I don't think Pegs wants to pay anymore fired Coaches or GMs to sit at home... so that's a natural force in favor if stability.

I think the people who imagine RB playing football ops don't understand what the President of a complex organization does. It's an enormous job. So many people underestimate RB's daily workload.
People who underestimate team President workload, project themselves into the President's shoes and imagine "Not enough work.. I'm bored, what shall I do.... hmmm... meddle in the football side. Yeah. That's what I'll do!.."
There are 150+ full time employees and 50 to 100 players. And countless game day employees and contractors... on the Bills side alone. The Sabres is probably similar. The President has 11 direct reports:
- Chief Administrative Officer
- EVP & General Counsel
- Sr. VP of Football Administration
- VP of Communications
- VP of Ticket Sales and Service
- VP of Information Technology
- VP of Community Relations
- VP Operations and Guest Experience
- VP of Government Relations and External Affairs
- Special Assistant
- Executive Assistant (President)
the Sabres side would be similar
Organizational theory says that any more than 7 direct reports may be suboptimal. RB has a busy day without playing football stratego.
RB has done a good job. One of the major strategic success he accomplished: regionalizing the team--bringing in even more fans from Ontario and Central NY. That is why the team is here... Peg's would not have purchased a half filled game day stadium.
Someone said "..he weaseled his way to the top of two teams.." LOL, I detect envy, not valid criticism
An out of town fan said Bocce: I'm blessed to be a few minutes from (listed in preference order): Bocce, Leonardi's, Franco's, Bruno's and Gino's.
-
Boneheads ... Russ is business operations, and he does a good job. Your woes as a Bills fan have zero to do with the business end.
Sure, in the past he had a failed stint at football ops. But that is past, by several years.

Too long; didn't read all nine pages of posts, so please forgive if this is a repeat thought.
It's all connected to the cliche "training camp arms." Starting camp with more arms than less is better.
Otherwise an and/or will happen. You'll overwork the arm of a starter and #1 backup, and/or there won't be enough training camp passing reps to develop the rest of the roster.
Five coming into camp feels like a good number.

Such negative people here. And the disrespect for Pegs is totally unwarranted. The man turned a $20,000 investment into 4+ billion... he's not a clueless idiot. After this bump in the road, the Bills will be fine.
Prediction: Bills 9-7, Sabres above .500
We'll see how people feel this time next year.
PS: people bemoaning Russ influence... put your tinfoil hats on, send your conspiracy theories to the Alien Encounters TV show. I never realized how much certain segments of the population needed a bogeyman. You Anti-Russites!

14:43 video post
I tried it at 17:30 = blocked video
The NFL is a fast league.

I'm not naming names.. because I don't know the field in that fanatical detail.
Day 2: Cornerback and Wide Receiver.
(if day 1 was CB, go WR. if day 1 was WR, go CB)

Elma (or do you mean what specific part of Elma)
Thanks. I know locally, electric fences are prohibited by code in most towns.
I guess Elma still has pasture land being grazed.
-
Oh those DeMatha boys, they know how to party.
The shocking part: what part of town was he in that has an electric fence?
-
If the Bills pick any QB in this draft, combine that with the Yates signing----and you can reasonably deduce the Cardale is done as a Bill.
they packed a Lunchable for Whaley
Russ told me that Whaley couldn't figure out the Capri Sun. He punched the straw clear through the pouch and sprayed high fructose all over the table.

Why did I skim 3 pages of this thread?
I want a refund of those 70 seconds.

The Green Bay Packers Model is NOT Communism.....
I think the point that was being made was the act of seizing a team from a private owner is something that happens in commie land.
-
Regarding the -ism's ... this could be Communism, or if you held to the light a certain way at noon, it could be socialism. The -ism's are as well defined as a jelly fish that way.
Communism or Socialism with a few rare exceptions, end up sucking for their people. Ask Venezuela.
----------------------
Author asserts community ownership is righteous and will make everyone happier. I doubt it. Sure Green Bay is a success. But could you imagine Mayor Brown or Marc Poloncarz running the Bills better than the Pegulas?
Bill DeBlasio running the Jets and Giants? Oh wait, that would be a pol from New Jersey. State of the ever falling bond rating. Because you know, government is so efficient with other peoples money.
Government should do the bare minimum in people's lives. Including not running a football team.

Round 25??? What year is it 1962?
Om my gosh... corrected.
I haven't had enough coffee yet.

....
Lastly, does it really matter who makes the final choice in Buffalo? I have very little confidence that anyone in the current Bills FO who makes the final choice will get it right.
Well, that's an awfully dark sentiment.
I see it differently. What is more important, pick one:
- very good coaching
- very good front office
- very good sync between front office and coaching (regardless of how good they are individually)
I choose very good coaching as the most important factor in team success. The Bills sucked because Rex sucked. FO could have been rock stars, and it probably would have added only game to the W column.
I'm cautiously optimistic because I think the Bills may have the right coach. FO is average, while that sucks, it isn't a death sentence if the coach is good or better.

A constructive reply for a teachable moment.
Use a before words that start with a consonant sound and an before words that start with a vowel sound. Other letters can also be pronounced either way. Just remember it is the sound that governs whether you use a or an, not the actual first letter of the word.

Mahome and Watson are not pick 10 material. pick 25+, yes. We have Taylor, so we're not in the desperate situation of drafting someone higher than they are worth.
-
Looks like the Bills played it smart not overpaying early in the process
Not over paying ... that's a rarity for the Bills.
Instead of hometown discount, they usually do the Stockhom-effect hometown overpay.

I'm not normally a superstitious guy, but another 1st round Mike Williams?.
We didn't do so well with the first Mike Williams. Maybe a pass (pun intended) is in order if this guy is still on the board when the Bills are on the clock.

This doesn't make financial sense. They cost of staffing, hangering and maintaining 20 year old jets is humongous. It far exceeds the savings on 10 or so team trips per year, and occasional offset from a rental to a New England scoundrel with too much money on their hands. Two planes?? Forget about it...
If the Seahawks, in Boeing's backyard, in a town awash with tech money couldn't make it work, I kind of doubt the Patsies will either.
Having said that: maybe 10 road NFL games (incl pre-season) plus 40 to 50 Sabres road trips, I could maybe see this working for Pegula Sports and Entertainment. (I know there will be sched. conflicts) Though, more in the format of a 737, in a 2+2 aisle formation.
LOL... put them on a C-130 with a seat pallet.
