  1. Former colllege lacrosse player and current varsity coach.

Best Att/Mid heads (IMO) are Nike CEO U, Maverik Centrik, STX Duel U, or Epoch Hawk Sequel.

Get a scandium or titanium shaft off of EBay and you got a nice new "twig."

For defense heads....STX Hammer U, Warrior OG Blade, or Brine Clutch 3. Best 3 for defense, IMO.

That's tremendously helpful. Thank you. How about a scandium shaft like this?

  2. If he's not fully committed yet, look on Craigslist or eBay for used stuff.

I've looked there. I've had some luck with E-Bay in the past, craiglist is mostly really old really crusty stuff Mom and Dad are getting rid of when the kid goes to college. There are exceptions but that's generally the case I've found. We have a play it again sports nearby and I'm down with that but my bigger issue is I don't know what I'm looking for.

You can drop me in play-it-again or ebay for baseball or hockey stuff and I can come out with gems because I can sort through the crap. I'm lost with lax.

  3. My son decided he wants to try lacrosse again this year. He played 1 year as an 8 year old and is going back to it at 10. This is his second sport (hockey is king) and he's really doing it just for fun, no aspirations/delusions of grandeur. Can anybody give me a recommendation for a decent middie/attack head and shaft as well as a decent defense head and shaft? I'm not sure what he's going to end up playing and I want to be prepared with recommendations either way. With hockey gear I know what's what and can scope out good deals on marked down stuff. With baseball I know what's good, what's bad, and what's recently been made illegal (yet is still sold). I know jack about lacrosse gear so I can't tell what's marked down because it's old stock and what's marked down because it sucks or because it's illegal to use. His helmet still fits and I was able to get some recommendations on gloves and arm pads that I was able to get very cheaply ($25 ea. marked down from considerably more than that). If you're going to respond think good, but cheap. He's not good enough nor invested enough for top end gear.

Lacrosse Monkey seems to have a nice selection of things in the Clearance area but like I said I have no clue. Online reviews are, well, online reviews. Not super helpful and often contradictory.

  4. Yep, and get a breakout by zipcode and you will see a concentration of where low test scores lie. It ain't spread out like peanut butter, it's concentrated in low-income areas across this country. Those kids are not any smarter or any dumber than the rest of the country, they just don't have the same resources at their disposal.

Having worked in my field for 15 years in the lowest of low income areas,a top tier upper middle class suburb, and a working class first ring suburb I can say with conviction that you could swap the teachers from those schools and the kids by in large wouldn't notice the difference. There are great teachers at every school and there are really crappy teachers at every school. I'd argue that you'd often find better ones in the low income areas because they have learned how to do more with much less.

There are PLENTY of other disparities I could list for you that do make a palpable difference though.

  5. the best thing to happen to marcell was that $100 mil contract.

this could get ugly. i know that when my boss yells at me constantly, hitting up a fatty boom batty of the sticky icky icky at the end of the day is the only thing that keeps me going.

Some people's reaction is to stop !@#$ing up. When that happens the yelling usually turns into praise and the yelling is directed elsewhere while you're held up as an example to follow.

I do like he has worked both sides of the Ball.

He was an absolute disaster as DC in Philadelphia. OL Coach is his strength and he's very good at that.

  7. I recall reading that it was setup just the opposite. The Chargers have dibs on joining the Rams in LA. If they decided against it, then the Raiders could look at LA. With Nevada committing money towards a Vegas stadium for the Raiders, they're likely going there as long as the NFL owners approve it. Latest I heard though is the casino owner (Sheldon?) involved is getting greedy and wants a casino attached to the stadium. I don't know if that'll fly with the owners.

Glad we don't have to worry about this now.

There are owners who own major stakes in Daily Fantasy Football gambling sites. You think they'll care about having a casino attached to the building? I'd be surprised if there weren't a sports book at the 50 yard line with all the owners getting a cut via revenue sharing.

They started breaking ground on the new stadium in LA. The Chargers are as good as gone.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about the Raiders move to Vegas. The Raiders could very well make it to the super bowl and then the next day pack up and leave town!

Al Davis' ghost would be chortling in hell if that happened.

  8. You guys do realize that Rex hasn't been "rolled" by the Patriots in over 5 years? Every game he's coached since he became HC with the Jets has been close. This is going to be a nail biter. That's why the spread is so low. If Rex knows anything it's how to beat Brady. His team just has to show up.

They've been rolled by 3 division opponents THIS SEASON let alone the horrific performance Rex put in last year v. Brady at home. But hey, I'm sure that trip out to Seattle will go much better.
