It could be that Roman wasn't doing his best job and that's what Rex thought so he fired him. OTOH, This run first offense is predicated on being able to run the ball to open up the passing game to help out that inexperienced 2nd year starting QB. So, now coming into this year opposing teams realize that if they work to stuff the run and force the QB to beat them it causes major problems with this current run first offense. Let's face some facts here that the Ravens were able to shut down the Bills run game and Roman didn't have Tyrod running option plays probably for fear of getting him injured. The Jets were also able to shut down the Bills run game and the only reason the Bills moved the ball is because Tyrod made something out of nothing. Running the ball all game also helps the defense by keeping them on the bench and fresh rather than on the field all game and getting worn out at the end. Just on another note that Rex Ryan has been a QB killer in that both Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez started out looking okay and then when the offense wasn't producing enough points the young QB's were forced to try and carry the game themselves. I dunno, perhaps all young QB's should only be carried by the offense for a year or so and then be expected to win games with their arms. ***EDIT We should see pretty quickly if it was the game plan, the play calling or the lack of quality receivers behind Watkins and the only half good offensive line with scrubs as backups. Tyrod looked so jittery in that Ravens game in that he was dumping the ball off to his RB's before he even scanned the field. In this Jets game, it did look like he was waiting far too long for his receivers to break open on some plays. Nevertheless, the run game was far more ineffective in both games than the QB.

Well, there is a report out there that the Bills FO pressured Rex Ryan to fire Greg Roman...
-
Wow...Rex was pressured by management to appease fans...

So, let me get this straight. The defense tanks and allows Fitzpasspick 374 yards passing and almost 500 yards of total offense The run game completely stalls for two games and the Bills QB is then forced to try and carry the offense. The Bills QB needs to scramble to make plays because there is no run game to support him and the offense scores 31 points. So, the answer is to fire the OC and promote the RB coach Excuse me as I just don't see how promoting the coach from the weakest area of the team is the answer. -

What really gets me with this move to fire the best OC this team has seen in 10 years is the fact that the one area of the team that fell on it's face in those two games was the run game. So, let's fire the OC and promote the RB coach Only in Buffalo... -

The bigger question is who will be the next scapegoat when another offense puts up almost 500 yards on Ryan's defense? -
Seriously, I can only think that nobody in the Bills front office actually watched the 2014 games or they would have seen how inept Rex Ryan was in his last year there. Only in Buffo does a new owner hire a head coach that was just fired after a 4-12 season.

Well, seriously. The offense didn't allow Fitz to throw for 374 yards or the Jets offense to have almost 500 yards of offense. Matt Forte rushing for 100 yards, 3 TD's The Bills defense was the worst part of that game last night and once Hughes went down the Bills had zero QB pressure -

Rex is just covering his arse by firing the guy who would have been his replacement -
I don't agree with this mostly because if this team can't get the run game going Tyrod will eventually turn into another Geno Smith / Mark Sanchez while being forced to carry the team with his arm. What we saw in the first two games is that when the opposing defense forces the Bills to throw by stuffing the run. Then when that happened the offense went into the toilet. The defense has been exposed that with little or no pressure on the opposing QB they start to look all world. Fitz 374 yards passing. The Bills defense gave up 493 yards of offense. If nothing changes I can see a 4-12 season and big changes to the coaching staff & FO.

can the Bills win more with less talent ?

We fans saw that same look in 2014 on Rex Ryan's face twice during his 4-12 last season with the NY Jets. When Schwartz's defense was either sacking Geno Smith, Mike Vick or they were intercepting them. 43-23 and 38-3 were the scores that year with Ryan as the Jets HC. Looking back at last year I thought the team might still be not so good. I didn't see them being this bad and it's like 2014 all over again only with Ryan now on the Bills sideline. -
What you fail to realize is that even if the team does go 2-14 and get the first overall selection. Unless things change big time in the Bills FO those clowns would probably trade to get Jared Goff. Anyway, I doubt Tom Coughlin would take another head coaching job in mid-season. In order for any coach to have success, they need to implement their schemes and coaches in the offseason. At this point, it might be better to fire Rex, his Bro and to promote someone from within.

In fact, he is getting met in the backfield and getting tackled there at times. You can't run block that poorly and expect to have success in the run game. Then, when you have a run first offense that can't run the ball effectively it usually kills the entire offense. What teams are doing now is stacking the box to keep Taylor in the pocket and make him throw to beat them and Buffalo isn't a pass first team with an experienced veteran QB!

Not soon enough... I still have a difficult time understanding why he didn't get the boot after what he did to last years defense.

Fans complaining about Tyrod and the Bills D gave up 374 yards to Fitz, Forte had 30 attempts for 100 yards and 3 TD's. 493 total net yards I know which one I think did the better job and with almost no run game to help him. -

One a good note after last week I would have never thought the Bills would score 31... On a bad note, the NY Jets offense would score 37. -

The problem arises is that he was a rookie GM when hired and he has made his share of mistakes in his time as GM. The simple fact that the team still might not have found it's franchise QB is a big problem along with overpaying for offensive stars that could have been found in the draft with one first round pick. The offensive line is another big issue when attempting to devlop young, inexperienced QB's.

Yea, well. When was the last time you saw the team president / marketing guy of those two pro teams in the teams cut room meetings? Was he really on the phone with UDFA's?
-
Good points! While Russ Brandon didn't himself make the actual choices for players over the last 7 years. It's the fact that because he was in that top position of power as de facto GM / team president he allowed some really stupid moves to happen. Russ Brandon didn't draft Aaron Maybin but he was in the room when it happened and what's more, he allowed it to happen as de facto GM. He was part of that process then and now and that is a constant. The one other real constant over the last 10 years has been this team lacking a top NFL football mind at the top of the org chart and until that happens this team will keep going around in circles. While spinning wheels and changing out schemes and players to fit those schemes.
