Doubful in my view as they might be peaking too soon. They play at 4-3 Pittsburgh, 3-4 Atlanta, and at 4-3 Kansas City, 3-4 Houston, at 4-3 Jacksonville, at 5-2 Seattle, and 5-3 San Francisco, Jacksonville, at Houston. Danny Dimes at QB, I suspect he could fall on his face at some point. Tough to trust him.

My take is this exactly! If Josh doesn't trust them to catch it...they aren't going to see the ball much. Shakir 7 targets, 6 catches for 88 yards, 1 TD Coleman 4 targets, 3 catches for 30 yards. Kincade 3 targets, 1 catch Knox 1 target, 1 catch Hawes 3 targets, 2 catches Moore 4 targets, 1 catch Davis 1 target, 0 catches -
Unless I'm mistaken McD mentioned Aaron Kromer in the run game and thanked him for his contribution. This kind of gave me the impression that the writing for Babich might not be the only name on the wall. The passing offense for Buffalo has looked pathetic in the last few games. Could be that Joe Brady might be feeling the heat soon. Just speculation.

Jags listening to trade calls for Brian Thomas
Nihilarian replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
THIS! This current Buffalo offense has been a run-first offense with Joe Brady calling more run plays than pass plays. Brian Daboll is no longer the OC, and we all saw what Stephon Diggs looked like after Brady took over from Dorsey. I, for one, am not convinced that this Buffalo OC would even make good use of this WR. Clearly, Keon Coleman (35) is Josh Allen's favorite target, and right behind him is Shakir (34), with Kincade in third at 24 targets and Palmer at 20 targets. In Jacksonville, Brian Thomas Jr leads that team in targets with 55, 27 receptions for 365 yards, 1 TD. With a catch percentage of 49.1. In this recent Jags game, BTJ was injured while grabbing his shoulder. Same shoulder he injured in college. Injury or mental case? "Among all players with at least 50 targets this season, Thomas' 41.8 percent success rate and 49.1 percent catch rate are the second-worst marks in the NFL. Jerry Jeudy is the only player behind him at 32.7 percent in success rate and a 42.3 percent catch rate (22 receptions on 52 targets). One of the big problems for Thomas has been catching the ball. He has been credited with an NFL-high nine drops on 55 targets this season." Thomas' struggles are partly on him, as he has struggled to make routine catches. Anyway, the Jags are looking to bolster their secondary as they are #26 in passing attempts, 27th in passing yards, 28th in passing TDs, and were just beaten by the Rams 35-7 with Matt Stafford throwing 5 TDs and the Jags QB Lawrence sacked 7x. Jacksonville is 4-3 at the bye. -

The thing about Sammy Watkins is that he made most of his yards in college out of screen plays. Buffalo didn't... I like @Kirby Jacksons idea of a trade with Arizona for Baker and JR -

Please don't remind me of the many, many players that the Bills could have drafted instead of that glass decoy. Mike Evans was right there, and after the draft, the team stated that they still needed a big, tall end zone threat. -

Let's not forget that the majority of this board wanted to draft Josh Rosen and were willing to get to the #2 or #3 pick by giving up the farm to get him. The kid might be a major head case or suffering from a prolonged injury...who knows? The red flags go up when a team wants to bail on a 23rd pick in the draft from a year earlier. In any event, a first-round pick looks like way too high a price considering that Beane loves his draft picks. -

You guarantee? Who are they? I'll refrain from disparaging a fellow Bills fan here. Did you miss the quote where it stated that Josh Allen himself stated he texted Coleman BEFORE the draft? You're the guy I want. That Buffalo Bills GM stated that Allen was involved in the draft process, and most likely why he traded back twice to draft the player his QB wanted on the team. Did you even click the link and read the article? -

Josh Allen 'pumped' Bills took Keon Coleman; QB texted WR before draft: 'You're the guy that I want' The 20-year-old said he received a text from Allen on Friday, before he was drafted, that said (via the team's official website), "You're the guy that I want. I watched a lot of receivers, and I want to play with you." https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/josh-allen-pumped-bills-took-keon-coleman-qb-texted-wr-before-draft-youre-the-guy-that-i-want/ Allen was involved in the team's selections, Bills general manager Brandon Beane revealed, saying his quarterback is "crazy about the draft process" and "loves it." -

What Bills fans seem to forget when talking about getting rid of Keon Coleman is that Josh Allen wanted to draft him, and probably why he is targeted so often by him. -

Brian Thomas Jr. is reportedly struggling with an ongoing shoulder injury, inconsistent performance, and a high number of drops this season, which has led to a decline in his effectiveness compared to his successful rookie year. A 49.1 catch percentage rate. There is a real reason as to why the Jags are ready to dump a former #1 draft pick from last season that played so well. 6 days agoThomas (shoulder) caught three of seven targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 35-7 loss to the Rams. Just what the Buffalo Bills need is another injured player that fans can complain about... -
Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?
Nihilarian replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was so different to see Allen look so ordinary and rattled, and it reminded me of his early NFL days, where Daboll would just keep calling for pass plays that weren't working. I should have said it was early in the second quarter that Josh was sacked twice in a row, which started things. Allow me to restate that it was on Joe Brady more so than the line. You would think he would have seen that Atlanta was so good at pressuring the QB and stopping the pass that he would have run the ball more. Cook was 17 of 87, a 5.1 YPC AVG, while Allen was 15 of 26 for 180 yards. Bills RB James Cook wasn't even targeted at all in the passing game and was only in on 53% of the snaps. What's even more strange to me is that Coleman saw 49 snaps, Knox saw 46, and Shakir saw only 34 snaps. The player on the Bills roster with the second-best catch percentage never saw a pass target in Cook. Hawes is first with 4 targets, 4 catches, and he never saw a target either. -

Yes, exactly, a 45-yard bomb to Josh Palmer, and that first Buffalo series ended with a 19-yard TD to Dawson Knox. The result of that series after that deep pass was a TD. The next series resulted in a 15-yard pass to Shakir that was called back as incomplete. After that, the Falcons get the ball and score again. Now come all the miscues by the Buffalo offensive line, with two sacks, a punt. Another Falcon TD from a run for 81 yards. The next five series for Buffalo ended with four punts, and lastly, an interception. Penalties, sacks, turnovers, and 2 of 9 on third down. Buffalo 157 passing yards. It was clear that the Bills' defense stunk in the first half; they held their own in the second. It was the offense that failed in this game. 291 yards to 443. Buffalo lost the turnover battle and ToP. The biggest factor was the Buffalo offensive line's failure to give Josh Allen time to throw. Dalton Kincade was out, and Josh Palmer was out injured after 2 pass plays for 60 yards. Gotta hand it to that Falcon defense that is #1 against passes attempted and passing yards. The Falcons, coming off a bye week, were ready to face the Bills on MNF, and Buffalo didn't look ready to face that Falcon defense at all. -

Okay, Coleman has one more snap than Shakir in 35 vs 34. Kincade has only 24 targets. Palmer 20 and Cook with 14. Keon Colman 35 targets, 24 receptions, 237 yards, 2 TDs, with a catch percentage of 65.6%. Kahil Shakir 34 targets, 25 receptions, 268 yards, 2 TDs, with a catch percentage of 73.5% Dalton Kincade 24 targets, 20 receptions, 287 yards, 3 TDs, with a catch percentage of 83.3% Josh Palmer 20 targets, 14 receptions, 234 yards, 0 TDs, with a catch percentage of 70.0% James Cook 14 targets, 12 receptions, 89 yards, 0 TDs, with a catch percentage of 85.7% Dawson Knox 12 targets, 7 receptions, 73 yards, 1 TD, with a catch percentage of 58.3% Go back to that fourth quarter of the Ravens game to see some of the big plays that Coleman made Remember that play that Chris Collingsworth stated was the one play that the Bills had been working on every practice. Let's not forget all the holding and Jersey-tearing that the Ravens' rookie DB Wiggens was doing to Coleman that first game. Nearly ripped his jersey off on that one end zone play that should have been called. -

Really, all it would take is to have Josh throw a few passes deep, and if he connects with one, it would scare the bejesus out of the defense and get them to start dropping deep and back off the run game. Seems like that would open up the offense even if they are low-percentage pass plays. When was the last time Josh went deep on a pass play, and he normally has time in the pocket to throw deep? We also know that Curtis Samuel can run a 4.31, Moore a 4.35, and Shakir a 4.43. More than enough speed to break away. It's all about how the Buffalo offense is schemed and set up. Josh Allen's average depth of target (ADOT) for the 2025 season is 8.03 yards, which ranks 8th in the NFL. This figure reflects a more underneath passing style compared to previous seasons, with recent game-specific ADOTs varying, such as a low of 3.3 yards in one recent game, according to SumerSports and Herd Mentality -

Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?
Nihilarian replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
This exactly! Some Bills fans just don't comprehend that no matter what receiver is traded for, drafted, or brought in...that this OC is not Brian Daboll (which is a good thing for the run game). However, until he shows that he can get more out of receivers on the roster that bringing in anyone else is a waste of time. Granted, Brady must be doing something right, as last year being the #2 scoring offense, and to have games like Josh Allen had against the Lions and Rams. In that game against the Lions, Ty Johnson was the leading receiver with 114 yards. In that Rams game, Shakir was the leading receiver with 106 yards, and Cooper was second with 92 yards. In my view, the current receivers on this team are good enough to beat any other team if schemed properly. Simply use Ty and Cook much more often and open up the entire passing game. -
What happened to the Joe Brady who called the offense plays so beautifully in 2023-2024? Last season, the Bills were the #2 NFL team in scoring, where is that OC? The Buffalo defense has real excuses, as there are so many injured, and the rookies drafted to start this season are all out with injuries. The D line with suspension is over, so they should help in stopping the run. The current Buffalo Bills are still top 5 in offense with #4 in scoring, #3 in yards, and it's mostly because of the run game. This season sort of reminds me of 2023 when Dorsey was asking Allen to throw a lot to Diggs, but the team was losing games. The Bills' passing offense looks wacky recently and nothing like what Daboll was running. You simply can't be a one dimensional team in todays NFL. If Brady can't get this straightened out rather quickly, it might be the next man up in Aaron Kromer or Ronald Curry.

It was Brady! But was it also Josh going full bore in the passing game and just letting loose? Finding the open receiver and hitting them, and this was when the Ravens defense was at full strength. They have four #1 picks in their starting secondary. I agree with some here that the entire Buffalo team has looked like an undisciplined mess at times. Offensive and defensive penalties, and against that Falcons pass rush, it's like the Bills didn't game plan whatsoever. It reminded me of Daboll calling nothing but pass plays when they weren't working and Josh was under heavy duress. I feel the Bills have enough talent on offense to get the job done if the plays are properly schemed. WR Gabe Davis is waiting in the wings. BTW, while James Cook has a success catch percentage rate of only 35.7%. He has a catch percentage of targets by 85.7% which is better than any of the Buffalo WRs. No idea why he isn't being used in the passing game more. In my view, this is all mostly on Joe Brady. The defense, however, could have everybody back healthy with the suspended players in the lineup, and that Buffalo secondary will still have major issues. Missed tackles, missed assignments. Rapp, Benford, and White stink this year, with all the injuries to the rookies / secondary, it gives me pause to think this current defense might never be good enough this season. -

I honestly don't know what's up with Joe Brady, but I do know that if he can't get it together, there are a zillion OCs out there that would love the chance to coach Josh Allen. McD has shown that he isn't afraid to make a change. We all recall that 4th quarter against the Ravens in week one with Josh and 200+ yards passing in one quarter, along with his receivers making big plays. We ALL want that! -

I seem to be in the minority here, but I feel that when Buffalo had that #1 WR in Diggs, and Joe Brady didn't utilize him like Brian Daboll or even Ken Dorsey. (rushing doesn't account for the QB runs) In 2020, almost 600 passing attempts vs 400 rushing attempts. A 1500-yard receiver vs a 700-yard rusher, Diggs' success catch rate was 65.1 %. record 13-3. In 2021, 655 passing, 461 rushing. 1225 yards receiving, 870 yards rushing. Diggs' success catch rating is 55.9%. Record 11-6. In 2022, 574 passing attempts, 430 rushing attempts. 1429 yards receiving, 819 yards rushing. Diggs' success catch rating is 66.3%. Record 13-3. I already listed what happened in 2023. My point here is that while so many are clamoring for a new #1 WR, like Chris Olave. Even if that player is a Justin Jefferson or a Ja'Mar Chase type that Josh Allen can depend on every pass play, I don't think it would matter in the way this OC schemes his offense. It sure didn't matter with Diggs. The Buffalo Bills have utilized the very same scheme that the New England Patriots used with Tom Brady, you know, the guy who won all those Super Bowls. Offensive Scheme: Erhardt-Perkins. Brian Daboll used this same playbook to build a crazy good passing offense. -

Nihilarian replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's not delusional if the Buffalo Bills OC gets his head out of his posterior and starts scheming the passing offense as well as he schemes the run offense at times. (EDIT, Brian Daboll was near-genius at setting up a passing game.) What do we know! That Stephon Diggs could juke the cleats off most DBs and make them look silly all the way up until Joe Brady took over mid-2023. (It's why Beane traded a #1 for him.) Bills OC Joe Brady pushed the run game, and Diggs took a back seat. Week 14, after the bye and OC change against KC, Diggs had 11 targets, 4 receptions for 24 yards. Against Dallas, 5 targets, 4 receptions for 48 yards. Against the Chargers, 8 targets, 5 receptions for 29 yards. Against the Patriots, 7 targets, 4 receptions for 26 yards. Against Miami in the last regular season game, 8 targets, 7 receptions for 87 yards. Now, mind you, for the 2023 season, Diggs was killing it with 160 targets with 120 receptions for 1183 yards, 8 TDs. Alas, the Bills were 6-6 at the bye, and despite Diggs killing it, the Bills were losing a lot of games. Clearly, McD made the right call with the change of OCs. That #1 main WR in Diggs took a back seat in being the focal point of the offense after Brady took over. While different receivers had better games than Diggs after the bye. That #1 WR was never the same. Lastly, QB Josh Allen usually throws the most to the receivers he trusts the most, and if you look at catch percentage and catch success rate, that was Shakir and Kincade that year. This continues to be the case even today, as Josh Allen has his favorite targets no matter whose name is called for that play. Joe Brady was the passing game coordinator for LSU while he had Joe Burrow at QB and Ja'Mar Chase, Justin Jefferson at WR for a season. So the man should know how to scheme a top passing offense.
