Can't blame teams for looking for a new new coach all the time.

There is a total dearth of talent at the HC position in the NFL.

I guess it comes down to expectations though. 32 NFL teams, 12 go to the playoffs every year, what should be expected? Playoff appearance every other year?

You are correct........they certainly could have paid Gilmore.

And yes I've also been critical of McBeane for tearing it down.    It wasn't necessary.   Hopefully it works out but the team they inherited wasn't really tear down material.   I thought then and still think they took the easy way out.  Lot's of built-in excuses when tearing it down and the easy part is getting back to mediocrity(which is where they are now).   Hopefully it works out.

Would you have kept Watkins, Darby, Dareus, Gilmore, etc...? I agree that someone like Gilmore could have been kept, though someone liked Dareus seemed like he was not worth keeping. Maybe process guys won't be enough to keep Beane and McD around for a while, however process guys are probably the best bet to try to build around psychologically.

Gilmore is an excellent corner and has always been good.  Very physical in coverage and played very good man to man.

The reason why he is hated on from portions of the fanbase is because he came off as aloof, he never took blame for his play and he wasnt always the most willing tackler and when you combine that with a franchise that had never whiffed the playoffs while he was here, this is a common reaction that you would expect from any NFL fanbase.

Going to the Pats didnt do him any favors either.

I wonder if he would have been worth his contract if he stayed here. Didn't he improve in NE, when Patricia/Belichick basically gave up on trying to make Gilmore play zone and man and exclusively focus on man to man coverage? I'm not sure the same result would have happened here.

  4. It's too bad that Cam has acted in ways that are regrettable. I think his stupid comments at times are the reason why people give him crap for antics. During the superbowl he handled defeat better than Brady did against the Eagles. (Brady wouldn't shake Foles hand vs Cam who owns up to his pettiness and congratulates Peyton) but since Brady doesn't say cringy things like, "It's funny to hear you talk about routes" most ignore him more than Cam.

Cam does a lot of good things. My opinion of Cam is that he's kind of like a big kid who means well, but often times messes up. It's not like Josh doesn't have some actions he still being scrutinized for. Not by us, mind you. It's interesting how it seemed that he was the only rookie QB other players specifically seemed to dislike. (Adams, Ramsey, etc..)

The Bills had terrible talent as a whole along the offensive line (at least with Glenn injured), and Kromer got the very best out of what he had to work with. Castillo came in and immediately changed the scheme and it was a total disaster, which lasted two years. He never should have been hired, and if he was, he should not have tried to shove an ill-conceived scheme on inferior players.

It seems amazing how the "build around your players" strategy seems incredibly obvious in hindsight and yet so many of the Bills coaches seem to struggle with that. I think this is a reason why people speak highly of coaches like Schwartz, Lynn and Gailey. Who all seemed able to effectively scheme for either the offense or defense.

Parrish was actually a good player, and was light years better than any punt returner we currently have. He was also good as a reciever, especially in 2010 with Fitz. His biggest problem was he could never make it through a season

I agree,  I think the fact that he was our first pick of a draft caused him to have more scrutiny. If he had been a 4th round pick he would have been a steal.

...so should we anticipate a flood of "start Barkley" threads if Josh puts up a MAJOR stinker?.......I do realize that would be a rare occurrence from TBD expert pundits though....

Well if our weekly bi-polar threads of "I'm so done with this team/who needs to be fired and how dare ESPN/PFF/NFL make fun of our team/player" are any indication.....

I have a fantastic life. Never been lonely. Thanks for playing.

This is about your earlier comments of Barkley. As far as football knowledge goes you have more than me so correct my thinking.

It seems like there are certain guys who don't make it as a starter, but are competent enough to be a backup for years in the league. IIRC, overtime they can go from awful to decent as a trajectory of their careers. I'm thinking Testaverde, Garcia, Collins, etc... and maybe it's a mistake to lump those three together. Is there any reason to think Barkley can't go from awful to decent by your standards? Could his most recent game be indicative of something between an outlier and him being good now?

Hughes has been one of the best trades the Bills have ever made. Unlike a lot of players who get their payday and digress, Hughes got better. I'm hoping Hughes retires a Bill.

Yeah, he has been a fantastic Bill for us these past several years. His penalties might be a reason he isn't mentioned in the same sentence as Kyle and Eric Wood, but Hughes has basically been another excellent player that has given his all for the team.

Don't fall for it - wasn't Aaron Rogers supposed to be on life support when we played GB and he schooled us, even ran for a 1st down if I remember.

Stafford was supposedly at the end of his rope too and had a pretty good game all things considered.

I will consider Brady to be officially hurt when his backup is playing.

To be fair, Stafford seemed pretty beat up. I mean, at least the announcers commented on it seemingly every Lions drive.

Regarding McCoy, he’s ranked 47th out of 62 qualifying RBs, so pretty damn bad considering he’s like the 2nd highest paid RB in the league.

I agree with that, he is definitely underperforming his salary. I think on the continuum of Shady sucks to he's behind a crappy o-line. PFF suggests it's further to the right than the knee-jerk reactions on the board here reflect. That being said, he needs to play better.

  12. It's nice to see that Allen and Foster are doing relatively well. I know PFF tries to avoid this, however I would think that as a team plays better it makes it easier for each player to get a higher grade. Allen, Foster (and apparently Zay) seem to be doing well in spite of poor O-line play.

Also, if PFF is trusted, then McCoy's grade is interesting. Many on here seem to think he is underperforming (he still might be), but this is indicative that he's still doing better than the average player on the team.

What happened was Jackson hit the ball with his hand between Holmes hands as Holmes was about to catch it. He knocked it up in the air and caught it. Great play by him actually.

That's true, if Holmes had ran back to the ball then it would have been a catch. Not sure if Holmes was supposed to do that.
