Already has imo...But then again, I don’t really view Marv as a great coach...sorry guys...

"Coach" is a loaded definition IMO

McDermott's ability to develop a staff and develop players is unquestionably top notch
His ability to create and drive the organizational direction and also uphold this standard is also second to none.

Will this translate into winning a super bowl? I think it will. And don't I think this even be close debate once all the chips have fallen.

Dak led Cowboys were 1-4 and the only one win was because Atlanta choked again and decided to not even attempt to recover an onside kick attempt.  Otherwise they would have been 0-5.  As bad as the offense was after, they actually had a better record with Dalton.

No one will claim Dalton is better option, so that’s not what I am saying.  But...if they are 1-4 or 0-5 team with Dak not being a massive cap hit, how are they supposed to be a SB contender now WITH Dak being a major cap choker?

I get why they paid him, I just don’t think Dak is going to be a guy who can carry a  team when the cap issues restrict their ability to make the roster better around him.

I have a feeling Dallas will be a perennial middle of the road team failing to hit expectations over those 4 years of Daks contract IMHO.  They won’t suck enough to get premium draft picks and they won’t be good enough to challenge for a deep playoff run.

Major Cowboys flop here on this deal... The team is nowhere ready to compete near term. Maybe in Dak's 4th year they will be a legit ready to compete for the conference.. at which point ... same conversation about Dak starts up again, and he will command even more money.

Dallas should have gone with a 6 year deal IMO, the team has too many other holes that they aren't able to fill short term and now won't be able to fill long term (post Dak's 4-year deal).

THANK GOD  Buffalo doesn't have to deal with Jerry Jones in the front office!

Hughes really hasn’t done much in a few years, not surprised. I think there are lots of DL transactions on the horizon.

Restructuring Hughes and Brown while releasing Butler, Jefferson, and Addison opens up a sizable chunk of cap space

It seems that way, but his 'win rate' has been tops in the league the past two years.. just not translating into stats, but I'd imagine it's got a larger impact to the overall success of the unit.

Excuse for what? All indications are that they made the proposal so that coordinators that go deep in the playoffs get more of a chance to be hired as head coaches. Beane didn't mention anything about it being a distraction or a reason why the team struggled.

Might have missed that, but was that the reason stated?

When I read the headline, my first thought goes the distraction aspect, and hadn't thought of the 'fairness to get hired' piece.

Good trade for the Colts. My opinion is that Wentz is a good QB and his collapse was due to a bad online and poor play calling. The Colts are a perfect fit for him.

Disagree, how would you explain his backup Hurtz coming in and looking like an actual professional quarterback.

Wentz is done, no respect from his teammates, and clearly doesn't have an NFL caliber work ethic.

A personal attack from a moderator. Interesting. And one who no doubt has never posted a sentence with a typo. Chandler#81, the moderator who is doing all that can be done to make posters feel welcome to the board, maintain a civil tone, and advance the dialogue. Nice job. Let's see if you keep up the vigilance, especially in your own posts.

Yeah.. but that post was idiotic. The past 4 years has taught me the importance of bullying morons.

Both are good. I don't really know why we have to compare all these guys. It's ok to like all of them, or dislikes all of them, for that matter.

We have Josh Allen as our QB. He took his first steps into the elite realm of QB's. He is going to be the face of the franchise for a long time.

Agreed. Either guy is capable of winning a super bowl. It's a team sport... continuity, experience, teamates, coaching, and yup quarterback all go into the equation...

Unless you're Tom Brady, and can elevate every aspect of a franchise and convince all star free agents to come on board for cheap.

Also had their lowest ratings since 2007. People are sick of watching Tom Brady, and maybe already getting sick of all the Mahomes hype. I would be willing to bet that a Bills/Packers SB would've generated a bigger audience.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/09/super-bowl-ratings-game-fails-to-attract-more-than-100-million-viewers.html

...why is this a dream matchup for the NFL? I'd think that two non-major markets would be anything but ideal assuming maximizing revenue would determine "the NFL's dream matchup"

  9. Good and interesting comparison. But don't forget, comparing our trajectory to the Chiefs sounds 'desirable' today (maybe a little less bc they got pummeled in the SB)... But several years from now, if the Chiefs start to decline, the narrative transitions to 'where did the Chiefs go wrong' compared to 'what the Bills did right'. (hopefully)

Basically nothing in the NFL is guaranteed no matter how good you just looked in one AFC championship game.. case in point what happened two days ago.

    1. What game plan were you watching? The Bucs ran the same concept and schemes on Defense the Bills did. They just executed them better because their skill position players are just better.

    2. As far as the lines go. Defensively it helps having massive guys like Suh and Vea clogging and disrupting an O Line that was missing their 2 starting tackles. Offensively all Tampa did was take what was given as Brady was his usual self getting rid of the ball in 2 seconds and taking the check down every time it was available. Oh and it's amazing how a competent power run game can keep a defense honest isn't it?

    3. True, it was officiated differently. The difference was the Bills kept waiting for the refs to throw flags and to take control of the chippy play when it was obvious they were going to let them play "sticky" as Romo said. When you get punched in the mouth you either punch back harder or fold into the fetal and take it. Guess which one the Bills did?

    4. The Bucs are a better defensive unit, period. They have the better skill players and executed, it's that simple. As I mentioned in #3,  when KC tried getting physical the Bucs accepted the challenge and smacked them back even harder. They didn't wait for the officials though in all fairness they didn't have to deal with the physicality the Bills did because they were actually flagging the holding and PI's from KC.

    5. Don't know what any of that had to do with the SB but if you're trying to make the point that Mahomes was brought up and groomed better than Allen while the whole time having an all star cast on offense? Yeah, sure. But make no mistake that Mahomes is then and now the better and more polished QB. He has better fluidity to his game and throws with better accuracy and anticipation since the beginning. Don't get me wrong, I love JA and he is the future in Buffalo but Mahomes is a better finished product. I will admit though Josh would benefit from a Kelce and a better running game.

People on this board are so much smarter then me. Thanks for the breakdown, I should start paying attention to defensive schemes to enjoy this aspect of the game.

I never played football at any level, but it's pretty awesome that the totally ignorant fan compared to someone with this type of insight can both watch, appreciate, and still lose their minds watching their football team.

Our front 7 just isn't good enough right now.  They would never admit this publicly but I wonder if behind closed doors there's some frustration on McDermott and Beane's end from the production they've gotten out of Edmunds and Oliver.  These two guys were drafted to be the cornerstones of our defensive rebuild.  Considering where our offense is at now and the fact we will still be able to win a lot of games in the regular season with our offense alone we will be drafting a lot lower going forward and I just wonder if Beane and McDermott are worried where they will be able to get some stud players for the front 7 going forward because I also don't think we will have the salary cap ability to sign big ticket free agents either.  I think that could be a real legitimate concern but like I said these guys are never going to let on to that through the media.  If Edmunds was our Kuechly/Devin White and Oliver was like our Aaron Donald our entire defense would look so much better.

Hard dose of reality right here.

I wonder if you see some surprise moves to free up cap space and take advantage of the surplus of good free agents that everyone is expecting this offseason. I could see Beane pulling the trigger to shore these areas up even if it means hurting our explosive play ability somewhat... In the end, if these guys want to win a super bowl, it was made abundantly clear that some changes are needed.

  12. All valid points. But I will recommend pulling up the last four years of draft picks to see how many impactful players we've hit on. Sure, lots of guys have room to grow and improve.. but it shouldn't come to any shock if next year, many of the guys you've mentioned are able to elevate their games even further, in addition to another rookie class that is able to make a continued impact.

Improvements at every position, every year, for the biggest Team gains.. Team sport.

Not really...they are still over the cap and will need to make some changes. The teams that have 20+ million in cap space are going to be able to snap up free agents for pennies on the dollar this year because here is nowhere for them to sign for big dollars. Unfortunately 3 of those such teams are in our division.  I am going to bet winning the division next year will be a lot tougher than it was this year.

    Jets - not worried about

Pats - need more than just a qb to fix their offense, they'll hang around, but are only a realistic threat if Buffalo regresses.

Fins - we've clearly got their number and matchup incredibly against them... Maybe it's competitive if Watson somehow moves to Miami, but it would cost Miami a boatload to pull that off..

I want to see a good running back a high pick CB and a lot of shots at defensive linemen.

I'd have no problem with this.

Another WR/TE weapon would make me happy, but I may just be overreacting to our WR injuries during the AFC championship game.. and I should trust that this coaching group gets an Allen level improvement out of Knox next year.
