My biggest takeaway from this last drive was that Dorsey used common sense and didn't go shotgun with a foot to go. But now of course, McDermott and the defense are giving it away.
-
Well, defense.....it's on you one more time..... Find a way to get a stop.
-
Two more chances to use it to get a foot. Do it until you get in.
-
You have 2 chances to get a foot. Tush push it twice more if needed. If they stop you 3 times in a row, so be it.

That was a really nice drive. They played with some urgency and pace which I have been asking for all game. They seriously need to consider a move to a more uptempo offense. I'm not talking about a hurry up offense where you snap the ball as fast as possible, but rather getting to the line quickly and just move with a pace. We'll see what happens from here. But, last drive aside, this offense has looked bad There are a lot of reasons for it, but I think a big part of it is that no team respects Allen's running ability anymore.. I know you don't want Allen taking unnecessary hits and you want to extend his career, but not having any designed runs and discouraging him from scrambling is taking away from who Allen is as a QB. Allen is the QB he is because he, at least in the past, has been able to control games and keep teams guessing because at any moment, he can take off for 40 yards. When you actively take away his ability to hurt teams with his legs, you are not getting the most out of who he is.

The thing is, the defense hasn't been the majority of the problem. It's the offense that can't score.......

We can't force a 3rd and long.....heck, barely even a 3rd down, so no....not much. Anyways, that drive ends this one. On to Thursday. Get ready to hear about trying to find a rhythm and execution, etc..... whatever.

Freaking Knox. Worst Bean contract. Never comes up big.
-
Hey....common sense on 4th and short.
-
Ugh....... had him. Go back to it.
-
Hard to save Von for 3rd and long obvious passing plays when you can never force a 3rd and long.......
-
OK.....new strategy for the 2nd half to try. Hurry up offense and let Allen call his own plays. Just need to try something new. It can't get much worse than 3 points in the first half even if it fails. Just need to try and spark something.

Oh my Lord.....Kincaid over the middle of the field after play action from under center!
-
There is just no creativity anywhere to be found on offense. Little to no motion. No eye candy to get the defense guessing. Everything is static. Line up and run routes. They refuse to run the offense from under center, or at least the pistol. It's just so basic.
-
This defense is very average at best without Jones and Oliver in the middle. No pass rush at all without those guys on the field.
-
Yeah....I don't think it came out right.

Thanks for kicking the FG

Use common sense. Find a rhythm. Score a lot. Stay healthy. WIN.

10/22/23 GAMEDAY Bills at Pats* Pregame Thread
sven233 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not overly stressed about the game overall, but if I were to pick one player I worry about on the Pats* offense, it would be Gesicki. He's not a great TE, but for whatever reason, he always makes big plays against us. Other than that, if we score over 20, we should win easily. But with our offense not looking right at all the last couple weeks, I want this to be a get right game and for us to score over 30. I want to see a faster start and for us to get some consistency on offense. I want to see more play action and running from under center and I want to see Kincaid get involved in the intermediate passing game. What I don't want to see is more than 2 shotgun sprint draws the entire game and going to shotgun on 3rd or 4th and a foot to go. In other words, I want to see common sense from the offensive coordinator. Don't make the game harder than it needs to be. -
There's no way this happens because it would lead to circumventing the cap. For example, say Allen needs a new contract in a couple years. If this was allowed, why wouldn't the Bills just say we will pay you a base salary of 100k and then give you x% of ownership in the team for a certain amount of years. There is no way to calculate what that would be worth and you are not going to allow a team to have a 20k cap hit for example for a star player. There is 0% chance this happens.

The thing is, a lot of teams run the same concepts out of the same formations. It's not uncommon. The difference is, the great teams disguise it much better. They'll throw in some pre snap motion or other window dressing to show the defense something different even though they are running the exact same concept. Dorsey does not do this. One of the other things we should be doing is running Allen out of these same formations. It may not be motion, but it would give the defense something else to think about. Right now, we're lining up and running the same basic concepts regularly. While there may be an option route or 2 built in, that is not going to be enough to get the defense guessing as to what is coming in these situations. So, when it looks like the defense knows what is coming on a play when watching it on TV, it's probably because they do as we do run a lot of the same basic concepts out of the same formations without trying to disguise what we are doing. We are relying on our athletes to win instead of the scheme itself. That's fine in some instances, but not all the time.

Are people really that unhappy with our 4-2 Bills?
sven233 replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not upset at the team necessarily. However, I am upset with the lack of common sense and situational awareness that is hindering the team. Perfect example is this past Sunday. It's 2nd and goal and you need 6" for a TD and you have 3 chances to get it. Instead of running a QB sneak that has like a 95% chance of succeeding each time you run it and virtually guaranteeing a TD, this team lines up in shotgun and gives the ball to the RB 6 YARDS away instead of 6" away from where you started. This is dumb and lacks common sense in that situation. The same can be said for running the same draw play on long down and distances. The fact that the statistics show that we are much more successful running and passing the ball from under center and yet being is shotgun 75% of the time is frustrating as well. Knowing that the main reason our shotgun calls are not working like they used to is because Allen has completely stopped running the ball from that formation is aggravating as well. The reason the gun worked so well in years past is because defenses never knew if Allen was going to throw it or take off with it on any given play which forced them to hug the LOS longer than they wanted to is what made those plays successful. Now, because they have not called any QB runs, and have basically told Allen not to scramble as much, defenses don't respect that aspect of the shotgun snaps we are calling and are bailing earlier and making it easier for them to take away the passing game. Until they get burned with Allen's legs again, they will just flood the zones and take away what we want to do. So, it's more about the lack of common sense and adjustments to put our players in the best situations to succeed. -
He's not the dominant player he once was, but he's an upgrade to what we have in the building now. I'd definitely have him in for a workout to see if he still has something left in the tank.

It hasn't been talked about too much here, but man did I love to see Allen step in and step up for his guys here.....
