Ya, isolationism is stupid -
A Democrat’s convincing victory in the race to replace disgraced former congressman George Santos continues a string of defeats for Republicans in special elections, in off-year elections, in the 2022 midterms and in abortion battles. Former Democratic congressman Tom Suozzi trounced county legislator Mazi Pilip (R) 53.9 percent to 46.1 percent. When a GOP-held district goes from plus-7.6 points (Santos’s margin of victory in 2022) to minus-7.8 points, it might be time for Republicans to take their weakness at the ballot box seriously. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/02/15/trump-weakness-2024-trials-republicans/

We know they were trying to help him, but if they broke into voting system and switched votes, I do not know https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/25/us/politics/russian-hacking-elections.html WASHINGTON — The Senate Intelligence Committee concluded Thursday that election systems in all 50 states were targeted by Russia in 2016, an effort more far-reaching than previously acknowledged and one largely undetected by the states and federal officials at the time. But while the bipartisan report’s warning that the United States remains vulnerable in the next election is clear, its findings were so heavily redacted at the insistence of American intelligence agencies that even some key recommendations for 2020 were blacked out.

Gees, why is this happening I wonder? https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/14/politics/threats-to-judges-increase/index.html CNN — The head of the US Marshals Service is sounding the alarm on a dramatic increase in the number of threats aimed at federal judges and prosecutors, telling lawmakers on Wednesday that the development “constitutes a substantial risk to our democracy.” “I’m deeply concerned with the alarming increase in threats against our judiciary and the violent nature of those threats. In the past three years, the number of threats against federal judges have more than doubled, as have threats against prosecutors and other court officials,” US Marshals Service Director Ronald Davis told a House Judiciary subcommittee. “I must state in stark terms that the current and evolving threat environment facing the judiciary constitutes a substantial risk to our democracy,” Davis added. -
Better, then, to take a holistic view. That holistic view is that Democrats have clearly done well in most such races since 2022 — often even better than a 2020 election that they won. Daily Kos’s special election tracker shows Democrats have overperformed the 2020 presidential results by an average of five points across more than three dozen special congressional and state legislative elections since the 2022 midterms. They have beaten their 2016 margins by an average of nine points. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/02/13/new-york-special-election-santos/
