  5. NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump again said Wednesday that if he returns to the White House, he would not defend NATO members that don’t meet defense spending targets, days after he set off alarms in Europe by suggesting he would tell Russia to attack NATO allies he considered delinquent. Speaking at a campaign rally in South Carolina, he retold the story of his alleged conversation with the head of a NATO member country that had not met its obligations. This time, though, he left out the line that drew the most outrage — encouraging Russia “to do whatever the hell they want.”
  6. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/06/09/biden-france-cemetery-trump/ PARIS — President Biden will visit an American cemetery in France on Sunday, a somber setting that will allow him to pay his respects to fallen soldiers while reminding voters of one of the most controversial moments of Donald Trump’s presidency. Biden’s stop at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery — a site Trump skipped during a 2018 trip after reportedly calling those buried there “suckers” and “losers” — will cap a five-day trip to France in which the president did not say his predecessor’s name in public but nonetheless sought to make clear the sharp differences that exist between the two men and their two presidencies. It’s part of a mounting effort by Biden and his campaign to resurface the worst memories of Trump’s turbulent four years in office — a push that has run squarely into a phenomenon pollsters have branded “Trump amnesia.” With polls showing Americans giving Trump higher marks on several issues than they did while he was president, the 2024 contest could be determined by voters’ willingness to forget, according to political strategists and historians. Biden has taken a personal interest in the idea that the passage of time has softened Americans’ memories of Trump’s presidency and increasingly has sought to play the role of reminder in chief. With speeches, trips to places Trump once trod and campaign ads that often feature more of Trump’s words than his own, the president has tried to help voters recall why they opted to oust his predecessor.
  7. Too early? Or has his popularity crested? Maybe the cult is exhausted
  8. The way Putin treats his cannon fodder exactly reflects the sentiment that they are suckers and losers. That';s what you will get in Trump. He is all just about himself
  9. Hamas is pure evil. Israel is a good country that is doing some wrongs, too in taking land in West Bank. I watched part of, "In the Name of the Father" last night, and things were pretty bad in Northern Ireland with terrorism and such, that finally ended. Hopefully a miracle will take place here. But probably not
  10. Crazy hostage rescue!; glad they got them. Wish this whole situation could just end, but so goes the world
  11. That was very, very good! I suggest everyone watch that. Way more than just F-16 info there. They cover an incredible amount of information on many levels about the war on the ground, the strategic implications, where the war is headed, how the GOPs blocking of aid to our dear ally has had crippling implications to Ukraine and why there is reasons to be both pessimistic and hopeful. I'm glad we have people like that working on our side.
  12. That's rude and crude! Bad Doc!
  13. Not at all, just pointing out what a jerk you are. Don't get upset, just pointing that out
  14. Is that you posting videos about people harassing women? Clown
  15. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/06/07/trump-phoenix-campaign-rally/ The 80th anniversary of D-Day on Thursday provided the contrast that should define the election. President Biden went to Normandy and spoke about American greatness. Donald Trump went to Phoenix and called the United States a “failed nation” and a “very sick country.” Sign up for the Prompt 2024 newsletter for opinions on the biggest questions in politics In France, Biden rhapsodized about “the story of America” told by the rows of graves at the Normandy America Cemetery: “Nearly 10,000 heroes buried side by side, officers and enlisted, immigrants and native-born, different races, different faiths, but all Americans.” In Phoenix, Trump, invoked the racist “great replacement” conspiracy theory, saying Biden had orchestrated an “invasion” at the border as part of “a deliberate demolition of our sovereignty” because “they probably think these people are going to be voting.” Biden hailed NATO, the “greatest military alliance in the history of the world,” and vowed to defend Ukraine: “To bow down to dictators is simply unthinkable. Were we to do that, it means we’d be forgetting what happened here on these hallowed beaches.” Trump hailed a modern-day tyrant, Hungary’s Viktor Orban (“strong man, very powerful man”), complained about “endless wars” and “delinquent” Europeans, and vowed to “spend our money in our country” — including by “moving thousands of troops, if necessary, currently stationed overseas to our own borders.” Follow Election 2024 Biden honored the heroes of Operation Overlord, who launched an invasion to liberate a continent knowing “the probability of dying was real.” Trump promised the “largest domestic deportation operation” in U.S. history. Biden spoke powerfully about the threat to democracy then, and now: “In their hour of trial, the Allied forces of D-Day did their duty. Now, the question for us is, in our hour of trial, will we do ours? We’re living in a time when democracy is more at risk across the world than at any point since the end of World War II, since these beaches were stormed in 1944. Now, we have to ask ourselves: Will we stand against tyranny? … Will we defend democracy? Will we stand together? My answer is yes, and only can be yes.” And Trump? Though he posted on social media about the “immortal heroes who landed at Normandy,” his message in Phoenix was full of self-absorbed thoughts on his “rigged trial in New York” and nihilistic commentary: “It’s all fake. Impeachment is a fake. The court cases are a disgrace to our country. Everything is fake.” He went on: “I don’t like using the word ‘bulls---’ in front of these beautiful children, so I will not say it.” The crowd struck up a chant: “Bulls---! Bulls---! Bulls---!” Trump laughed. Biden’s speech was an important attempt to rally Europeans, and Americans, against the far-right nationalists who threaten the free world. “Isolationism was not the answer 80 years ago, and it’s not the answer today,” he warned. “The autocrats of the world are watching closely to see what happens in Ukraine, to see if we let this illegal aggression go unchecked. We cannot let that happen. To surrender to bullies, to bow down to dictators, is simply unthinkable.”

  18. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/06/07/may-jobs-unemployment/ Job creation accelerated from the previous month and even soared past average monthly growth gains of the year so far, which economists have described as a jobs boom after the labor market cooling that characterized much of 2023. Employers have now added jobs for 41 consecutive months, going back to January 2021. Average hourly wage growth accelerated sharply in May to $34.91, which is up 4.1 percent from the previous year. Still, wages have consistently beaten inflation for nearly a year, in a boost to American workers’ standard of living after years of wages falling behind inflation. Most signs point to a job market in a healthy spot. Layoffs remain near historic lows as employers are cautious to let people go; workers are staying in their place, rather than switching jobs at the elevated rate of the pandemic’s end when employers had to compete fiercely to keep up with demand. “You have to zoom out and look at the overall picture,” said Julia Pollak, chief economist at ZipRecruiter. “This is a new normal — a less dynamic and more stay-in-place labor market where companies aren’t firing people quite as much and people aren’t switching jobs quite as much. As a result, companies aren’t having to hire quite as much either.” 👍 Economists say employers facing elevated interest rates that have made borrowing more expensive have been expecting rate cuts later this year, which can spur economic growth. And recent job data gives central bank policymakers some evidence that the economy is approaching a “soft landing,” meaning it is neither running to hot inflation nor veering toward a recession. One reason that the labor market has grown steadily over the past year, boosting the overall economy as job openings fell, is due to a major pickup in immigration that helped close long-standing labor shortages. More than 3 million immigrants arrived to the United States in 2023, according to data from the Congressional Budget Office. Trump's immigrant round up would kill the economy! “Immigration has played very important role in bolstering our economy,” said Joe Brusuelas, chief economist for the accounting firm RSM US. “If we do see a curtailment of immigration, then I would expect that would create a tighter labor market. That would likely send the unemployment rate down and cause wages to rise.”
