Malcolm Kelly's workout has me convinced...
Brandon replied to elegantelliotoffen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On the other hand, its going to be 50-50 regardless of who you choose, so taking the guy with huge potential does have its merits. -
Top 5? Why aim for simple mediocrity? Its the #1 pick or nothing, I say.

If they ever do hire me, you can bet that would be a trainwreck. 0-16!

Is this possible? Best draft scenario
Brandon replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that I'd rather go with a guy like Keller in R2 at TE if Harvey or another defender is taken in R1. I'm not really sold on the 2nd group of WRs in this draft and would rather just pick one of the projects in the 3rd or 4th. Meanwhile, Keller fills the immediate need of a possession receiver and a deep threat down the middle of the field. -
The argument about whether or not he's worth the 11th pick is one that will just go endlessly in circles at this point, I think. In the end, I think its about the type of football player I expect Limas Sweed to become in the NFL. Do I believe he has a realistic chance of becoming an 80 catch 1200 yard 10 TD per season guy? I think he does. For me, that's enough. Let the draftniks argue over whether or not he's a 'reach'. Some of the so-called 'experts' thought that Evans and Lynch went a dozen spots too high as well. I only care about what he'll do on the field and he looks like an excellent fit from where I'm sitting.

I like him. The wrist injury still has to be a lingering concern, but I think he's answered the only other major question, his ability to separate from pro CBs. His collegiate production says he can. His workout numbers say he can. There's really not much more he can do. IMO, he's an excellent prospect at the position, is a 5th year senior, and from the interviews, he does seem like an intelligent guy and not a punk, either. Combine all that with his reputation as a very hard worker on the field and in the film room and I think he's going to be a player that's very tough for the Bills to pass on. He seems to be very close to an ideal fit for what they're looking for at the position.

LOL, don't get me started about THAT crap again.

Is there any indication that she made any attempt whatsoever to return it? No. She could have taken it to the police. Once she sold it to this guy, she lost any and all rights to a reward, IMO. -
Who is the #1 TE in the draft this year?
Brandon replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My top 5 would be: Bennett Keller Davis Finley Rucker Finley is the guy I like for the Bills in R3-4. He's not going to block anyone (and most of the TEs in this draft won't), but he has the best hands of the bunch and will make very tough catches in traffic, is a great athlete and is just fast enough to be a threat deep down the middle of a defense. -
Malcolm Kelly on Sirius this morning
Brandon replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, I think my conclusion is the correct one. They may be right about the Bills passing on the WR and they're right that they shouldn't pass on a significantly better defensive player, but to say that there's no WR available that warrants the 11th pick is based upon an assumption that is quite possibly false. The hosts have no more idea how the Bills have these guys rated than the caller did or you or I do. -
It also happens to virtually all receivers as they age. I'd venture a guess that Eric Moulds probably still runs a 4.75. Anyone want to sign him up? Not I. At some point, a poor 40 time becomes indicative not only of poor top end speed, but of poor speed in general. Not only will their 40 time be bad, but the 10 and 20 yard split times will as well. Once in a great while, there will be an exception who will break that mold, but its rare. There are plenty of examples of great college players in every draft who can't run and never do anything in the NFL. In fact, we usually have this same conversation every year about someone and most of them, not all, but most, never make it.
-
I may indeed have Zuttah underrated. Admittedly, I have not bothered researching OL much in this draft as I don't think they'll take one in the first few rounds.
-
No, a great 40 time doesn't make you a great player, but a terrible 40 can certainly make you a bad one. As I posted a day or two ago, the difference in 40 times for a pro athlete and an 18 year old kid off the street sounds surprisingly small, and it is, around .5 of a second, but put them on the field, and its enormous. Regardless, I think its very likely that he'll post much better times in private workouts in the next two weeks.
-
It depends on who is left. A WR who can't run is a WR who can't run, regardless of round. Someone will take a chance in R3 or R4, I think, but I'm not sure it will be the Bills. They seem to avoid the guys who are in freefall on draft day.

Why should he? Was she making any effort to find the owner? Sure doesn't sound that way, but more like she intended to keep it for herself. -
It cost them pick 72 to move up from 42 to 26 to get McCargo. Toss in a 4th plus a 5th or 6th and I think someone might bite on that this year.
-
I think that's its more pass or fail on the character and measurables. Its not about minute differences in measurables, but whether he meets certain standards. If he doesn't, his draft stock is impacted accordingly.
-
Honestly, I think that its very likely that he will post a solid 40 time for one of these teams that brings him in during the next 2 weeks. We may not hear about it, thoigh. The more I read, the more I think it was just a very slow track and from the sound of it, he probably stressed himself out so bad that it, too, hurt his time. But until he proves it, the questions about his speed have only been magnified.

Good to know that the scouts are posting here on this forum. -
That 4.75 would probably be enough to scare me away until at least R3 unless he can redeem himself with a faster run in the next two weeks. As we all know, speed can't really be taught. If that really is indicative of his speed, I think he faces very long odds of making it. There comes a point where a player is simply too slow to make it in the NFL. That doesn't mean he's not worth taking a chance on, but I think there will be safer prospects available with about as much upside at their respective positions at least through R2, if not 3. But again, if between now and the draft he runs in the general neighborhood of a 4.55 or even 4.6 for some team in a private workout, it changes matters quite a bit.
-
I wouldn't be suprised at all to see them pick a TE at 41. I think its the biggest need on the team, but I'm not convinced that they do and that's part of the reason I waited until R4. As for Schmitt, I just can't get on board with a blocking FB before R6. I think he'll probably go sometime in R4.
-
I'm not sure about pick 11, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they pull another one of their trade ups to get him near the end of R1. They've got 10 picks and I'm not sure some of those 4th-7ths will actually make the team this time around. Might as well trade up.

Why does NFL site state Bills need to draft RB?
Brandon replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It seems more than a little odd. The last thing they seem to need is a backup RB, but then again, I think I remember reading that they have interviewed Kalvin McRae of Ohio. -

That's what I'm thinking right now. I'm pretty much sold on it after today. I think Sweed's a good, relatively safe pick with a lot of talent and a guy who has the reputation of busting his a$$ to improve his game. -
I've been leaning slightly towards CB through the last few weeks, but I think I made up my mind today. I think I'm pretty much sold on Sweed being the best choice. Mel Kiper may rate a few guys higher, but I think he's exactly the type of player they're looking for at that #2 spot, brings a tough, hardworking attitude that's rare at the position, and doesn't bring any off-the-field issues whatsoever. I could live with the CB pick, heck, I'm very high on Rogers-Cromartie and I think his upside may be a little higher. I just think Sweed makes them a better overall team.
