I like him. The wrist injury still has to be a lingering concern, but I think he's answered the only other major question, his ability to separate from pro CBs. His collegiate production says he can. His workout numbers say he can. There's really not much more he can do. IMO, he's an excellent prospect at the position, is a 5th year senior, and from the interviews, he does seem like an intelligent guy and not a punk, either. Combine all that with his reputation as a very hard worker on the field and in the film room and I think he's going to be a player that's very tough for the Bills to pass on. He seems to be very close to an ideal fit for what they're looking for at the position.

LOL, don't get me started about THAT crap again.

Is there any indication that she made any attempt whatsoever to return it? No. She could have taken it to the police. Once she sold it to this guy, she lost any and all rights to a reward, IMO. -
Who is the #1 TE in the draft this year?
Brandon replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My top 5 would be: Bennett Keller Davis Finley Rucker Finley is the guy I like for the Bills in R3-4. He's not going to block anyone (and most of the TEs in this draft won't), but he has the best hands of the bunch and will make very tough catches in traffic, is a great athlete and is just fast enough to be a threat deep down the middle of a defense. -

No, I think my conclusion is the correct one. They may be right about the Bills passing on the WR and they're right that they shouldn't pass on a significantly better defensive player, but to say that there's no WR available that warrants the 11th pick is based upon an assumption that is quite possibly false. The hosts have no more idea how the Bills have these guys rated than the caller did or you or I do. -
It also happens to virtually all receivers as they age. I'd venture a guess that Eric Moulds probably still runs a 4.75. Anyone want to sign him up? Not I. At some point, a poor 40 time becomes indicative not only of poor top end speed, but of poor speed in general. Not only will their 40 time be bad, but the 10 and 20 yard split times will as well. Once in a great while, there will be an exception who will break that mold, but its rare. There are plenty of examples of great college players in every draft who can't run and never do anything in the NFL. In fact, we usually have this same conversation every year about someone and most of them, not all, but most, never make it.

I may indeed have Zuttah underrated. Admittedly, I have not bothered researching OL much in this draft as I don't think they'll take one in the first few rounds.
-
No, a great 40 time doesn't make you a great player, but a terrible 40 can certainly make you a bad one. As I posted a day or two ago, the difference in 40 times for a pro athlete and an 18 year old kid off the street sounds surprisingly small, and it is, around .5 of a second, but put them on the field, and its enormous. Regardless, I think its very likely that he'll post much better times in private workouts in the next two weeks.
-
It depends on who is left. A WR who can't run is a WR who can't run, regardless of round. Someone will take a chance in R3 or R4, I think, but I'm not sure it will be the Bills. They seem to avoid the guys who are in freefall on draft day.

Why should he? Was she making any effort to find the owner? Sure doesn't sound that way, but more like she intended to keep it for herself. -
It cost them pick 72 to move up from 42 to 26 to get McCargo. Toss in a 4th plus a 5th or 6th and I think someone might bite on that this year.
-
I think that's its more pass or fail on the character and measurables. Its not about minute differences in measurables, but whether he meets certain standards. If he doesn't, his draft stock is impacted accordingly.
-
Honestly, I think that its very likely that he will post a solid 40 time for one of these teams that brings him in during the next 2 weeks. We may not hear about it, thoigh. The more I read, the more I think it was just a very slow track and from the sound of it, he probably stressed himself out so bad that it, too, hurt his time. But until he proves it, the questions about his speed have only been magnified.

Good to know that the scouts are posting here on this forum. -
That 4.75 would probably be enough to scare me away until at least R3 unless he can redeem himself with a faster run in the next two weeks. As we all know, speed can't really be taught. If that really is indicative of his speed, I think he faces very long odds of making it. There comes a point where a player is simply too slow to make it in the NFL. That doesn't mean he's not worth taking a chance on, but I think there will be safer prospects available with about as much upside at their respective positions at least through R2, if not 3. But again, if between now and the draft he runs in the general neighborhood of a 4.55 or even 4.6 for some team in a private workout, it changes matters quite a bit.
-
I wouldn't be suprised at all to see them pick a TE at 41. I think its the biggest need on the team, but I'm not convinced that they do and that's part of the reason I waited until R4. As for Schmitt, I just can't get on board with a blocking FB before R6. I think he'll probably go sometime in R4.
-
I'm not sure about pick 11, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they pull another one of their trade ups to get him near the end of R1. They've got 10 picks and I'm not sure some of those 4th-7ths will actually make the team this time around. Might as well trade up.

Why does NFL site state Bills need to draft RB?
Brandon replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It seems more than a little odd. The last thing they seem to need is a backup RB, but then again, I think I remember reading that they have interviewed Kalvin McRae of Ohio. -

That's what I'm thinking right now. I'm pretty much sold on it after today. I think Sweed's a good, relatively safe pick with a lot of talent and a guy who has the reputation of busting his a$$ to improve his game. -
I've been leaning slightly towards CB through the last few weeks, but I think I made up my mind today. I think I'm pretty much sold on Sweed being the best choice. Mel Kiper may rate a few guys higher, but I think he's exactly the type of player they're looking for at that #2 spot, brings a tough, hardworking attitude that's rare at the position, and doesn't bring any off-the-field issues whatsoever. I could live with the CB pick, heck, I'm very high on Rogers-Cromartie and I think his upside may be a little higher. I just think Sweed makes them a better overall team.

I agree with you, he does have a legitimate gripe, but when it comes to the point of throwing shoes, rumors of the agent being removed from the facility, and of Kelly getting into a confrontation with the Oklahoma coaching staff, all of this possibly in front of NFL scouts, I think its going more than a little too far. -

I've been defending the guy on this part of it, but its beginning to sound like he threw one hell of a tantrum. -
Not that anyone really cares, but I'll probably do another one of these essentially as a prediction just before the draft to see how wrong I am. I might do another one in between if I get really bored. 1) WR Limas Sweed, Texas Given the thinning of the WR field as of late, the Bills need at the position, and the simple fact that Sweed is just a very good overall prospect, I think that this pick makes the most sense of all the alternatives. He's big at 6'4" 210lbs, plays a tough, physical game, and has managed to quiet the skeptics somewhat by running in the high 4.4s this offseason. Sweed also has the reputation of being a very high character, hard working player such as the Bills covet on draft day. He's a little overaged and will turn 24 later this year and there are still lingering concerns over his wrist as well as his ability to consistently separate from pro CBs, but overall, I think that the combination of physical talent, intangibles and team need make this a very likely pick for the Bills at 11 or possibly if they trade down a few spots. In addition, he also provides the Bills with an excellent insurance policy and leverage should Lee Evans choose to test the waters in free agency. Devin Thomas of Michigan State is also an option here, but I feel that the Bills will opt for the proven, experienced player instead. 2) CB Antoine Cason, Arizona Like Sweed, Cason fills a significant void on the roster while also providing the team with a top quality athlete for the position. After starting 46 consecutive games for Arizona, Cason would seem to be capable of starting immediately and his skillset seems well suited to this defense, an excellent zone CB with the ability and willingness to support the run. As an added bonus, he has intercepted 15 passes in his career, something that has often been missing in Bills defenses of the last several years. The only downside to this pick is that the Bills may have to trade up to get him. 3) DE Jason Jones, Eastern Michigan I was very impressed with Jones while watching the Senior Bowl. He didn't have a particularly good game, mind you, but you can see that the athleticism is there. He is extremely quick off the ball. He just needs coaching and some work in an NFL strength program. He's a project, but 2-3 years down the line, I think that he'll be a very good LDE for some team. Its notable that Jones has also played DT in college, versatility that will serve him well in the NFL. 4) TE Jermichael Finley, Texas I don't know if the Bills will consider two players from the University of Texas, especially both on offense, and I didn't plan it like this, but I really like Finley. He's probably not going to block anyone, at least not until he also gets some coaching and strength training, but he has outstanding hands and athleticism as well as pretty good pure speed. I think he'd be an excellent addition as a receiving TE in this offense. It may be a little late for Finley, but I believe that there will be a reasonably good TE prospect still available. I'd also strongly consider drafting this position as high as round 2, even if the Bills draft a WR in R1. That won't make the 'draft defense' guys happy, I know. 4) WR Keenan Burton, Kentucky Another WR, but this time as a backup and potential direct replacement for Lee Evans. 5) OL Jeremy Zuttah, Rutgers The Bills need quality depth on their OL and Zuttah is a prospect at any position up front, though most scouting reports seem to indicate his best position is center or guard. 6) WR Todd Blythe, Iowa State Yet another WR? Yes. This one is Sweed's backup and a failsafe should Sweed struggle. I think that WR is going to get a major overhaul a couple of weeks from now... 7) FB Jehuu Caulcrick, Michigan State I know everyone loves Owen Schmitt, I just don't love the high price tag. The Bills are known to have interviewed Caulcrick, so I suppose its as good a bet as any. 7) QB Matt Flynn, LSU They'll probably draft a backup QB in the last three rounds. You're guess is as good as mine which one. 7) CB Wilrey Fontenot, Arizona Cason's Arizona teammate. He'll probably never be a starter, but he does have a lot of experience and seems to have good athletic ability. In any event, expect at least two CBs out of this draft.

It's official Malcolm Kelly is a complete joke.......

As far as I know, the answers to both questions are yes. He can schedule another workout for everyone, if he can find a venue that will agree to do it and get the teams to show up. I'm also pretty sure that the teams can also bring him in for a private workout. I don't think they're limited to just interviews.
