  1. Yes, I do not want to wait another year either. I want Nassib at #8, but if Bills take Geno or Manuel at 8, I will be happy. If we had more than 6 picks, Id want the Bills to take 2 qbs. At this point, after picking up Kolb, I wish we could trade T jax back for the pick we gave up for him. I just want the Bills to take a shot at QB. And I feel like they should keep drafting qbs for years to come until we find the next franchise qb. Not taking Russel Wilson in the 3rd will probably eat at me for the rest of my life. Only way that will cease to bother me is if somehow we draft a qb who winds up being better than Wilson in the NFL. Thats a tough hand to beat though. I am starting to think that if the Bills dont pick Nassib at #8, it will surprise me. I feel like the Eagles are going to draft Geno if he is there. He seems to be a perfect fit for Chip Kelly's offense. I do not know what other needs the Eagles have, so I could be wrong since Vick is the incumbent.
  2. When people started calling for Wanny's job, Gailey backed him up every time. Does anybody think If Gailey fired Wanny that Gailey would have kept his job? Gailey is a smart guy, I think when he backed up Wanny he knew he was going down with the ship. I think the Bills would have looked for a change in leadership regardless if he backed him up or if he fired Wanny mid season. Obviously, if they had a better record and more wins in the season, Gailey might not have been on the chopping block. But as a head coach, Gailey made no attempt to turn that defense around. Whether that was flat out firing Wanny or forcing him to change his scheme, Gailey should have taken on that responsibility. That was a record setting bad defense. A head coach cant just ignore that situation.
  3. Big 3rd and 5 in jets opener and Byrd is lined up Santonio Holmes 15 yards deep. Did byrd make a mistake? Possible. Or was it bad coaching/bad scheme and thats where Byrd had to line up against that formation in 3rd and 5? Wanny got outcoached bad. Look at second half of Pats game at home. Bellicheck made adjustments, wanny didnt, Bills D got destroyed. So I agree. Can anybody name something they liked about Wannys coaching? Can someone point out a situation where we saw a formation earlier in the game, made an adjustment to it, and made the play later in the game? I cant. But I dont watch as much game film as some of you doods.
  4. Seriously. We have real-life problems to worry about. The Bills are one of the loves of my life, but you gotta keep it in perspective. Sports is entertainment meant for enjoyment. Why come on a fan board just to b&tch??
  5. Its time to get excited. Wow. Why are you even a fan?
  6. I didnt know Easley ran a 4.39 at the combine. Would be nice if he could put it together. But redemption stories are rare in the NFL. Im saving all my optimism for coaches and quarterback. So I've got none to spare. But I would love to see him step up.
  7. If all you do is line up in your base defense, you cannot rely on talent alone to stop a good offense. It was clear from game 1 against the jets, that Wanny was a horrible d coordinator. He never mixed up his looks. Even if he didnt blitz, he never brought LB's or DBs up to show blitz and back off, and if an offense knows exactly what you are going to do against every formation, they will pick you apart. Clearly, Wanny's game plan was the reason the Bills D was historically bad. Not just bad, but historically bad. The thing that frustrated me the most was how stubborn he was. He would never make any in game changes. For example, the second half of the Pats game in Buffalo where the Pats were running all over the Bills. Then he would just blame it on the players in the press conferences. He was awful. But Im pretty sure chan gave him a vote of confidence a few times on record to the press. So as a head coach, Chan is responsible for everyone.
  8. I respect Greg Cosell's opinion more than alot of the other guys out there. Its been pointed out before, but he believes Nassib is better than Geno Smith. I would be very happy if the Bills drafted Nassib at 8. Heck, Ill be happy with whoever the Bills draft at QB. But Id be really happy w Nassib. I will most likely regret this statement 3 years from now, but Id say the chances are pretty high no matter who I like at QB, that none of these guys will be franchise qbs in 3 years.
  9. Exactly. These coaches would know him best. And coming from the college ranks, I think they have their finger on the pulse of exactly who they would want at QB in this draft. Whether its Nassib or whoever, I think they have a good idea of how all of these qb prospects fit into the equation. Does anybody know off the top of their head if Syracuse played FSU at all in the last 3 years? Game planning against a qb is great way to study strengths and weaknesses of a QB. Theyve had an up close look at Geno Smith multiple times.
  10. Im down for a tradeback. I wont rule anything out though. If Nassib is who they have in mind as their franchise qb, who cares if they pick him at 8 or 22? No way they would risk losing him IF he is the guy they want. So I dont see them trading back if they feel strongly about any of the top 3 qbs. Only way they trade back if the option is available is if they like but dont love a qb candidate. Just not worth the risk.
  11. Geno will be off the board before 8, and the Bills will pick Nassib. I dont think it will come down to a choice between Geno and Nassib for the Bills. If they decide to pass on Nassib at 8, then we will know that Marrone and Hackett dont believe Nassib has what it takes to be a franchise qb in the NFL. Because like others have said, if you know hes your guy, you wouldnt wait until the second round and possibly lose him.
  12. Different coaches, different organizational structure, different resumes and experience from the new coaches than the previous regime, mainly. Marrone and Pettine are up and coming, whereas Gailey and Wannstedt have been around forever and could be considered, "old nfl". I get your point, Weo. After 13 years of the same old, its reasonable to believe that nothing is really changing. And anyone who believes that, has a valid reason and every right to believe it. I just feel differently about Marrone than Williams, Mularchy, Jauron, and Gailey. Those guys were established NFL assistants coming from established NFL teams. Marrone has proven he is a guy who can turn a difficult situation around in a bummy program. I think thats exactly what we need in Buffalo.
  13. My mothers side of the family is from NY and they are Jets fans. I went to a Jets game when I was younger with Bills gear on and they didnt heckle me. I've also been to a few Pats games at Foxboro wearing Bills gear when I lived in Boston and fans didnt give me the business there. However, Ive been to the Ralph with my extended family wearing Jets gear. Bills fans gave my Aunt, and Great Aunt a really hard time on the walk in and also walking up to the seats at halftime. Who yells at a 70 year old woman? I would just tell people to stfu and quit yelling at ladies. The Ralph is a tough stadium to come into as an opposing fan. I've seen alot of fights between Bills fans and the opposing teams fans. Especially Raiders fans. I think Raiders fans put together bus trips because their always seems to be alot of them. The Ralph is an awesome experience. But sometimes, whenever that amount of booze is flowing, people take it to the extreme. I dont drink like I used to, but those were some really fun parties back when when I liked to party. As long as people keep it fun when drinking, its a good time. Its like any other place you go to when there are massive amounts of booze being consumed. I had alot of fun with it, and so did my friends. We never caused trouble just had a good time....that is until the Bills lost and I wondered why the frick I spent an entire Sunday driving and spending money to watch the Bills get destroyed.
  14. Yeah, when the Bills hired Gailey I remember thinking "wtf"? Then my friends gave me the quotes from Cowher about how great Gailey was, and I accepted it. He was awful though. His play calling was baffling at times. Nothing was worse than having the lead in AZ with a few minutes left, inside the opponent 40, and he calls a trick play and has Brad Smith chuck a bomb into the endzone for an interception when the run game was working and the Bills didnt need the TD to close out the game. That play encapsulates his coaching style for me. He'd have Freddie and CJ getting hot and switch to the pass game. He over-complicated everything. 3rd and 1 - lets pass the ball. But enough of that rant. Hes gone. The day we hired Marrone I was a happy guy. Much different feeling than when we hired Gailey. I was happy we didnt hire an NFL retread like Lovie Smith. Andy Reid or Chip Kelly both sounded pretty good to me. Although Andy has not won the big game. What I like most is Marrones particular skill set and ability to turn around a struggling program. I think he is the right coach for the job I also like his ties to Western NY as well as his time in the NFL under Peyton.... Only time will tell. But for now, I am going to feel good about it and be optimistic while managing my expectations.
  15. I am the same way. I dont think I could take being a Bills and Sabers fan if I had no hope. Every off-season, I watch the Bills make FA pick ups, and then go through the draft, and then tell myself how nasty they are going to be. This year, is the first year in many, I feel like I am not expecting much. I just want to see some progress. I hope that the new coaching staff lives up to my expectations of them, and that we find a franchise qb, and most importantly that the franchise turns around. I want to see the Bills play with some heart. I doubt we are going to find the franchise qb in this draft so my expectations are limitted. But I do feel positive about the changes that have been made at OBD. I like that Marrone has not come in and spent a ton of money in free agency. I think it is smart. He wants to figure out what he really has and evaluate the talent himself this season before he goes out and spends big bucks on what he feels are the needs of the team. I think the Bills will pick some more FA's and UDFA's after the draft but I dont see them bringing in any stars. I love that the Bills hired Pettine. I strongly believe our defense will bounce back this year and bounce high. I think Kevin Kolb will be servicable and at least puts us in a better position than we were before. Id like to see Wood stay healthy through the season because if he gets injured, we will be in a tough position next year after losing Levitre to free agency this year. Id like to see the Bills lock up Byrd before the season is over, and Id like to see a new receiving threat emerge to give Stevie some help. I am not hoping for playoffs, but Ive learned to set my goals to be be attainable like the above
  16. Thank you. You and I feel the exact same way. Pettine alone will bring us into the top 15 without adding any other players. There was alot of talent on the defensive side of the ball last year and it was completely wasted by an awful coach with an awful scheme who refused to adapt. Instead of admitting his scheme sucked, he put it all on player performance and would say that his scheme has guys lined up in the right spot if they do their jobs. Wanny is not an NFL caliber d-coordinator. I feel positive about what Marrone brings to the table as a head coach in leadership ability and he coached in the NFL under Sean Peyton - one of the best offensive minds in the game today. Add a couple talented players through the draft, hopefully find a qb in there, and I think this team will at least be entertaining. Everything hinges on the Bills finding the next franchise qb. And I just dont know if there are any in this draft.
  17. Thats very true. But ive also been around some seriously gifted athletes who just didnt want it. Some guys just dont give damn. Nothing is worse than wasted talent and it used to make me so angry because I wast a guy born w the ability to run a 4.5. Look at some of the guys in college or the NFL who throw their career away for drugs or crime. Or all these guys that come into the combine with superhuman athletic ability - they either arent smart enough to make it, or they dont want it bad enough.
  18. This is only partially true. At least the part about motivation. A good speech before a big game goes a long way. Coaches who dont believe its their job to ever motivate their team are partially right. Its the same in business. You cant make your people be motivated on a daily basis. They have to wake up every day and want it for themselves. But an Any Given Sunday or Glenn Gary Glenn Ross type motivational speech can really motivate a team.
  19. I still think the Bills should take Nassib over the other qbs in this class, but Im wondering if any if these qbs really are top 10 material. it just seems like there are too many question marks to take any qb from this class at 8. As much as I support taking Nassib over any of the other top qbs in this draft I think any type of option to trade down in the draft would be ideal. If the Bills reach and pick a qb at 8 overall and he winds up being a franchise QB, then we will all obviously be happy. But if the Bills drafted any one of the top 3 qbs in this class at number 8, and they bust, it will hurt. We will look back on it for years and talk about what a mistake it was, the signs were there that these guys sucked, and the front office sucks, and we could have made a more conservative choice on a player at a different position who is currently starting somewhere else in the league. If we trade down in draft, and draft one of these qbs at lets say 20, and the qb busts, it will hurt alot less because it was not as risky, and more importantly we added value to the draft by collecting more picks. Next year, we wont look back on this draft and curse the Bills for reaching at 8 just to get a qb in 2013. That said, I dont care if we get our franchise qb at 8, 20, or the 6th round. I just want one. But I think the smart choice this year is to trade down.
  20. haha.. Geno Smith or Matt Barkley. They are the only picks out of the top 4 qbs (Geno, Manuel, Barkley,Nassib) that would make me unhappy.
  21. Glad I did not bet any money. I didnt think Rogers, Flacco, Dilfer and Big Ben were first rounders. My draft history needs some work. Thanks for the posting/lesson!
  22. Guys is obviously not being objective. Eli Manning is also a winner. Late in the game, during the big game - eli turns it on. But he looks like a confused/scared kid alot of times out on the field. He just has a mopey look about him. He is possibly the most under appreciated/under rated qb in the league by the media. And I think alot of that has to do with the way he presents himself. I hated on Eli Manning. Alot of that hate was because most of my friends are giants fans, so I was always looking for the negative sides of the guy. I couldnt help but like him after being objective about it. One thing is for sure, and that's that Eli Manning is a talented winner. But does he look as cool and calm behind the center when he is on the march like Tom Brady? No way. Oh - and he doesnt bang Supermodels.
  23. Good point. The basic economic principle of supply and demand also comes into play here. The demand for franchise qbs is at an all time high in todays pass first, (pro qb, pro receiver new rules on contact). The majority of the NFL's franchise qbs have not been taken in the first round. If you took a look at what round the Superbowl winning QB has been drafted in over the last 15 years, I would put money on the majority of those winners not being drafted in 1st round. Im just too lazy to look it up. Who cares what round you get the guy in as long as you get him. If any team had drafted Russel Wilson with their first round pick last year, the media and analysts would have called them crazy for doing so. So if a GM really believes that a guy like Nassib or Manuel are the franchise' future why not draft him at 8 if you feel like he wont be there by the time your second round pick comes around? And with the new rookie contract rules, why not take chances on QB's early? Its not a science. A lot of luck is involved as well as where a rookie lands. Do you think big ben would be big ben if he landed in Buffalo? The Bills destroyed the careers of JP Lossman and Trent Edwards. Big Ben came into a situation where a team had a solid run game and great defense. Id argue that the majority of rookie qbs who succeed in the NFL were drafted by a team with a solid run game and good defense. Again, just too lazy to look it up.
  24. Manning has 1 Superbowl. Brady has 3 Superbowl rings and been to 5. A winning attitude is everything. Brady might be the coolest qb under pressure in history. The dude just looks focused when the game is tight. No looks of doubt or fear. I hate Tom Brady, but I respect the guy for sure. Plus, Brady bangs supermodels.
