  1. You guys are overthinking this. It seems unlikely that we will know one way or the other about EJ this year. The main reason to draft a QB this year is that there is currently no credible backup on the roster. If the player drafted turns out to be better than expected, then you have a good problem on your hands, but it is silly to draft another QB for the purpose of developing him and then trading one of your QBs for a high draft pick. The chances of it happening are too slim, and too many things can go wrong.

Instead of adding another rookie to the mix though, I would rather sign a veteran if they feel that Thad is not good enough to be the backup. You still need to develop a rookie even if he is the backup. We would be in the same situation as we were this year if EJ got hurt, an inexperienced rookie starting with not a lot of reps.
  2. Can the playoff system start soon enough?

Even if OSU beats a very good MSU team, they'd be blown out in the national championship game. It would be a shame if they made it over, say, a 1-loss Alabama team.

Not sure about that. Urban Meyer took a 1 loss FL team with a very mediocre offense to the NC game in 2007 and beat a "unbeatable" OSU team who had rolled everyone that year 41-14. Look at the coaches. If it is FSU-OSU, be careful about thinking they can't affect the freshman QB or that they could stop OSU's offense. Not saying OSU will win but do not think it would be what you are predicting, Are you comparing it to ND-Bama from last year? Because ND did not have nearly the speed, QB, running game or coaching staff that OSU has. If they had not each missed 3 games at the beginning of the season, both B Miller and Hyde would be strong Heisman candidates.

  3. Not a fan of 4:00 starts either. The only good thing about it is there are fewer 4:00/4:3-0 games so more time on RZ channel. I won't get the game here so that helps. But the last 4:00 game they played was in NJ and the bitter taste is still in my mouth from that game. Hope they can turn around the late game trend!!

DT Stefan Charles is listed as the backup for Kyle Williams. His hometown is Toronto, good time and PR to let him play.

He has looked good, hope KW can go and maybe just rotate in Charles as needed. ATL has a patchwork OL so we'll see if he can be OK in a rotation,
  4. Being a Florida fan I hate Alabama, but now a fraud OSU team slips into the Natl Championship.

Watch it! Still have to beat MSU next week... then you can call us frauds :) JK- I live in Columbus and am a die-hard Buckeye fan but our pass defense is just so awful.
  5. What this list tells you most is that the majority of the league doesn't value safety highly.

I still think the right move is to franchise Byrd and trade him. If you give Byrd his long-term deal which is likely his one and only, that's asking for trouble after what he pulled. Don't forget that there's valid injury worry too with his hip.

No. Weddle is the highest paid FS in the league. Byrd is better (I watch SD weekly). Pay him, keep your good players, and get to the playoffs.
  6. I don't understand your theoretical strategy of drafting qbs in the first round in consecutive years. If the first drafted qb demonstrates an ability to be a franchise qb then why would you pursue another high round qb instead of using that pick to address one of your other many needs? What a young qb needs more than anything else to develop is playing time. Your approach makes sense if the first qb you selected demonstrates little ability to succeed in the long run, such as Gabbert. But if a young qb gets progressively better or demonstrates the potential that he can play that position then why would you hinder his development with another potential prospect hovering over him? It's not an issue of a qb being weak-minded by feeling threatened by the other prospect but the issue is playing time.

Let's forget about the possibility of an Adrew Luck caliber being available in the second draft year. He is a once in a generation type qb who will be the first pick taken in any draft. If you want to pursue an intriguing qb prospect in a lower round, such as Russell Wilson, then I wouldn't be adverse to taking qbs in consecutive years. But for me taking two qbs in the first round in consecutive years is not an approach I would advocate for.

What makes more sense is if an interesting qb prospect is available in the second year with numerous suitors trying to move up to our spot to get that prospect then I would make the trade down and accumulate picks to address the numerous holes that exist on the roster.

Yes. It is hard enough to develop one young QB in the NFL - now people want Hackett to develop two and see who wins? Dive the reps in practice? OK. The old saying is true. If you have 2 QBs, you have no QB. If they want to bring in another QB go with a vet who can come in and play well enough to win and can help mentor EJ as well. If, after next year, EJ has not shown the potential to be franchise QB, maybe look at drafting another one high. But unless there is a can't miss guy in this draft (there isn't), makes no sense.
  7. "Truth is, none of those issues will be solved this weekend. There will be the usual whining about Toronto’s lack of tailgating freedom and how it damages the bacchanalian instincts of NFL fans; about how there is no atmosphere in the Rogers Centre and about how many tickets were discounted or comps. In the end, it will matter not one iota because commissioner Roger Goodell and his owners don’t give out letter grades for tailgating parties, and if partying’s that big an issue anyhow, Toronto has two words for NFL owners: Rob and Ford. End of discussion."

From the Toronto Globe and Mail, funny.

  8. You hit the nail right one the head, If we were playing at da ralph with the weather and our "home" crowd i think we win easy. Unfortunately we are playing in toronto so Im giving the "home field" advantage to the falcons. They are used to playing in a dome, the bills are not.

Falcons are also used to losing in a dome. Just sayin.
  9. No worries. There's a game against Bowling Green this Saturday at the Ralph. 2 8-3 teams playing for the division and a berth in the title game. Hopefully the Ralph will be rocking because these kids deserve it. Pretty much the most high level game since 2004.

Is that one on TV? Pretty sweet that it is at the Ralph.
  10. demoralizing may be a better word than embarrassing. i guess i was more arguing against hanging close being a moral victory for them.

Yeah, no moral victories with rivals. I was so mad the Bills lost Game 1 to the Pats*. Some saw it as a moral victory, but to me I was just pissed because I know we could have beat them that day.
  11. Saints vs atlanta since Sean Payton was hired:

2012 -- No sean payton, split

    2013 -- swept

    2011 -- swept

2010 -- split because garrett hartley missed a 25ish yard game winner

    2009 -- swept

    2008 -- split

    2007 -- swept

    2006 -- swept

as a division rival, thats crushing/demoralizing. you and i know this from experience. SP is 12-2 against them and 1 of those losses was the kicker missing what amounted to an extra point

I definitely see your point.... but equating it as a Bills fan to the "rivalry" with NE... if we were a 2 win football team and NE came into RWS as a SB contender with a great record and we lost a close game, I would not look at it as an "embarrassing" loss... demoralizing, yes. I would be more embarrased if Bills weren't even competitive in the game or the Bills had a good record and were a contender and still couldn't beat them at home.
  12. I personally only see one Sure-Fire QB in all of college football, and he can't enter the draft until 2015. That being Jameis Winston. That's not to say guys like Bridgewater or my personal favorite Zach Mettenberger can't be good NFL QB'S, I just think sure-fire pertains to rare players like Andrew Luck. JMO.

I agree - there are a lot of good QBs in this draft, but no great ones (as far as NFL prospects) IMO and definitely no can't-miss guys like Luck.
  13. Do you have a pic, cuz I don't think he looks remotely like Jim Carrey.

The Chargers were meandering fro a few years under Norv Turner, and Rivers wasn't right physically. Their O-line really sucked too.

Still does as they have a ton of injuries. Rhinehart went there to be a starter (he was a backup here) and was hurt most of the year, Fluker has been good at run blocking but really struggled with pass protection. There have been so many injuries on their OL they were considering taking guys from the DL and having them play OL.
  14. It's a team game, and one is judged on the full season, not two losses in two weeks. I'm not sure why you're excluding the good November game from the overall November stats.

Rivers was good in the Denver game too. His defense was not. They lost, but not because of him.

That said, if you ever look at a Chargers fan message board the majority cannot wait to get rid of him. They have no idea how hard it is to find a franchise QB, apparently.

He always strikes me a choke artist. But thats just my opinion and that and $2.85 will get me a cup of coffee.

He played in the AFC Championship game with a torn ACL.
  15. The only thing that I will say to combat that is that he was absolutely the best player on the field when they played Ohio State (even Urban Meyer agreed). He is a stud.

And fast. He outran Braxton Miller and Dontre Wilson to the end zone on a pick 6. Outrunning Dontre Wilson is like outrunning Marquise Goodwin. I don't know what his 40 time is, but the kid plays the game really fast.
  16. The few times Byrd has talked about his situation he usually mentions being somewhere where he's wanted. Most players want to be resigned before the last year of their contract, one single play on the field can end their career and they know it.

Buddy Nix always seemed to take his time resigning players and I think it really bit the organization hard in this case. To Whaley,Marrone, and Brandon's credit they have remained upbeat, positive, and sound like they really want Jairus here.

Byrd may also just be sick of losing and the coaching turnover. Hopefully he thinks we're on the way up now.

I like him and hope we re-sign him. Given his contract is in limbo, I don't blame him one bit for making sure he was sufficiently healed from plantar fascitis. Why risk a serious injury and hurt his chances of getting a lucrative contract?

Bills can easily make him feel wanted with dollar signs. Regardless of how Buddy made him feel before. Money (1) and winning (2) will lead to him staying.
  17. Atlanta is the first team eliminated from playoff contention in the NFL by virtue of San Francisco's win last night...hopefully they will be a little deflated from it

Hope so. This is the kind of game the typical Bills teams would lose though - pretty much everything leaning in their favor and then - splat. Hope they are different now! I feel like they are, but don't want to be disappointed (yet again).
