  1. Is AVP in playing shape? He said he still had the itch when Brown got hurt. Maybe we could plug him in.

Playing SHAPE? For him, wasn't that kinda roundish? Seriously, if you're referring to his wrist or whatever problem he had, I don't know.

BTW, my vote for JPs back up is Bledsoe. Say what you will about his deficiencies for a starter, but it'd be very difficult to find a better QB suited for BU duty behind a green, semi-rookie. Considering the cap ramifications of releasing him (& that I think you want a proven, competent BU behind said new starter), I'd like to see us hold onto him.

  2. Are my #s right?

The spped of light is ~186,300 mi/sec IIRC. This translates to ~6.7*10^9 mph.

That means that the object will be falling for almost 21 million seconds which is like 242 days. In that time it will cover 335,340,000 or almost 4 trips to the Sun from here.

As you can see, this is a theoretical question only, 'cuz 1)one can't create a vacuum that large, and 2) over that distance, obviously gravity is no longer constant and the object will be acted upon by several other bodies.

  3. I've only seen about 1/2 the episodes, so I'm by no means an expert on the show, but this idea just occurred to me. (Brought about by the observation that there should be some signinifcance to the song in a thread below.

What if the reason they haven't been rescued is that 'they are everybody'. i.e. there's no one left on earth, or maybe the world that they left (& maybe we live in) is only a figment of their imaginations?

    Just food for thought.

  4. (That was hard to figure how to fit in the subject line.)

I'm using Firefox 0.9.2 but also have the same problem w/ an older version of FireBird.

(I've actually done my best to uninstall IE, so that's not an option.)

Usually, when I click on the 'jump to new' icon in a link, it will only go to some previous spot that I've already read. Not always, though.

Are others experiencing any similar problems?

I'm guessing it's a cookie or something problem, but I can't find provisions to clear cache &/or cookies like IE has.

Any insight or help would be appreciated, thanks.

p.s. A similar feature seems to work fine on another site I frequent (yes, hard to believe that there's actually other sites on this WWW of ours) & don't know whether it's relevant, but I find I have to log back on to eBay far more often even though it seems to know who I am (i.e. it says, 'welcome esjaydee').

  5. 'm happy just seeing willis on the field for 3rd downs.......he's a solid runner, great pass blocker, and an unbelievable receiver.......

I think you've got 2 out of those 3 correct. No disputing he's a good runner. He's also able to DEMOLISH people in pass protection & at least from my perspective, seems to always fulfill his assignments.

As for the receiver, no I don't think so. He drops too many balls. He 'looks' more fluid & skilled than Henry & he's good once he gets into the open field (assuming he catches the ball), but he doesn't have good hands.

Actually, back to the original premise of needing a Centers-type guy, I agree. I personally thought that Morris was if anything better than Centers, but considering he would have been relegated to 3rd string, I definitely see why he left. Now I sound like one of those wishful dolts, but if we end up tradin Henry to the Dullfins, maybe Morris will come back to be the 3rd down/2nd string RB.

  6. How was it shipped?

If it was regular parcel USPS (motto - if it absolutely, positively would be nice if it gets there, maybe, hopefully in the not too distant future) it wouldn't surprise me at all if it takes in excess of a week, maybe 2.

When did he ship? Again, depending on the method, if it's more than 2 weeks ago & it's traceable, have him do so.

I'm reluctant (& apparently so is everybody else) to leave negative feedback, but assuming he waited more than a few days to ship, I think that calls for a Neutral. As someone suggested though, it might be prudent to wait for him to leave your feedback.

  7. One thing to consider, assuming these ultrasonic devices are actually effective (I have no idea), is what about other dogs in the neighborhood? Are there any in the immediate proximity? If so, it certainly isn't right to emit an annoying & offensive noise (to dogs) that they are subjected to just 'cuz of some other dog. For that matter, what if the noise (is it correct to say something ultrasonic emits a noise? ) aggrevates these other dogs to cause them to bark.

  8. Look at it from a finanical standpoint. I'm not sure of actual facts (they tend to cloud an opinion  ) but...

$600m is roughly $40/head for NYS residents. Relative to what we're paying, that's trivial.

Further, here's an important issue. Right now, I assume NYJ are a New JERSEY team, ergo pay NJ taxes. W/ their stadium in New York, we get to have income tax on their salaries AND sales tax on ticket sales, etc. Figure easily $70m/yr in salaries @ even 6% plus another 8% of perhaps $50m in ticket sales, etc. Right there, those revenues alone offset perhaps 20-25% of the cost.

Those are direct costs. The don't take into consideration about tickle down effects not to mention the original $600m cost, which of course NYS will get a decent tax share of. Add to that additional property tax revenue.

(Also, bear in mind, that revenues (& expenses) are distributed among several entities (county, town/municipality, state) but considering how we allocate things (state subsidies, etc) I really don't think that's an issue.

Finally, if this indeed is sufficient to attract the Olympics, I suspect the impact of that would be VERY profitable for the State.

  9. minor cut in shin on wed. looked like it was healing good fri. then sat it started draining a clear liquid . have a call in to the doctor waiting for apointment . anyone ever have this ?

Ewwww. I'm trying to eat my beakfast, thanks.

As for the appointment, yes, I've had those b4, in fact some have even been w/ doctors.

  10. Very sorry to hear about your dog (along w/ your nasty vet bill); hope he comes out okay.

The guy promising to pay the vet bills is a good step, but by your description appears to be an empty promise. I don't know if he would actually be liable or not.

Question - was your dog leashed? If not, it could be claimed that your dog was the instigator. (My dog got attacked by a pit bull in a similar situation.) If he was, I don't know.

As suggested elsewhere, I would suggest contacting animal control. Depending upon what they say, it might be worth contacting the police.

There's 2 important issues - the paramount one being that this dog needs to be controlled so that this doesn't happen again (or worse). If this means euthanizing or more desirably removing this dog from this man's custody, then so be it. Secondly, ideally, this man should be finanically accountable for the damage his dog caused.

  11. He was held without bail at a hospital's jail ward under suicide watch and was listed in stable condition.

Suicide Watch? Why, let him do it. He's already caused a great detriment to society (an action that resulted in the death of 11 & injury to 200 plus considerable $, both directly & indirectly). Have him do everyone a favor & save the expense & effort of a trial & either cost of life in prison or the even greater cost of convicting and carying out the death penalty.

I won't go far far as to call him a POS as others have, but I certainly don't think he's worthy of compassion, either.

  12. Sorry to hear about your situation. Sucks. Did you get a severance?

If it was something other than Civil Service, say in an organization that was only interested in retaining superlative employees this might be an easy a way to weed out the less than stellar performers. But there doesn't seem to be that motivation at a gov't job (or at least not to me).

Is it possible that this was some way around possibly hiring a 'contractor' or temporary position & the intent was to release you all along?

  13. Is there a way to trace or check DNS problems in Windows XP?

Not that I know of, but then again I'm far from a Windoze expert.

My problem was diagnosed by realtime/online help via RoadRunner. (disable ZoneAlarm & the problem went away.) I subsequently found others posts on a BBS from others suffering similar problems w/ ZoneAlarm.

Conceivably, Norton could be doing the same thing i.e. being too restrictive on traffic.
