1. I can't confirm and I don't have a link for this, but I remember hearing a rumor that Travis Henry got busted with weed at the Rookie Orientation several years ago.  Did anyone else hear that, or was it a rumor?

A great example of a player not taking the rookie symposium seriously was Sean Taylor who took off have way through the symposium and then proceeded to have multiple off the field incidents during his rookie year.

  2. If this means they are willing to part ways with Nate Clements I am going to so fuggin mad.  McGee is a decent corner and I guess we can always draft a player or sign a stop gap, but Clements is a top 5 corner in this league.

If we lose this guy I am going to b!tch slap TD.

You probably won't hear anything from TD on his attempts to re-sign NC. My guess is that somewhere down the road, NC's agent will spout off about not having received any offer or a lowball offer.

  3. Too bad Travis just can't except his backup roll, get his 15-20 carries a game and really help us win a championship. The Bills would be awesome with WM and TH in the backfield!! Too bad its all about MONEY!!!!!!!!

    382670

In a backup role TH would get 15-20 carries a game? :D I think it would be more like 1 or 2 series(5-7 carries) at best to just give WM a breather.

  4. Final table is today.  Ivey and Fossilman are out.  Table is down to 9-

    2 John Barch 9,330,000 Chips 0 1 3

    4 Mike Matusow 7,410,000 Chips 0 1 5

    5 Steven Dannenmann 5,460,000 Chips 0 1 8

    6 Joseph Hachem 5,420,000 Chips 0 1 1

Good story on Satori but he unfortunately is out as well.  Nice ride though!

Are any of the remaining guys part of the "pro ranks"??

  5. Why not climb through the ranks of girls junior tournaments, college golf, the LPGA and after you have had success at those levels, take on the men. What has she WON to date from an amatuer standpoint?

  6. Lets remember to that in the NFL, not everyone spends to the limit.Think the Vikes were $30M under last year and still compettive.

    382402

Is this true? I can't believe with the talent on that club(including signing AW to a huge contract last season), that they could be that far under the cap?

  7. That's how it evens out the playing field, which benefits a small market club like the Sabres.

    382397

It brings teams "somewhat" closer together, but it's not a level playing field like the NFL, where most teams are within a couple of million dollars of the cap limit. Like I stated earlier, you will still have teams spending 25-35% more on player salaries than others.

IMO...I do not look for the Sabres to go on a spending spree landing top notch players left and right, like some folks do.

No matter what happens, I will have my part season tickets for 05-06 and am glad to see hockey coming back.

  8. Travis is way to good of a running back to get rid of.  This is a mistake.

    382371

...and WM is way too good to be sitting on the bench splitting time with TH. TH has his limitations as have been well doumented on TSW over the last year. Get what you can and move on. WM is the starter at RB and will be for the forseeable future.

  9. I'm not too concerned about letting Zhitnik go.  But we need to keep a good deal of our RFA.  I definitely want to see Satan, Campbell, Afinogenov, Biron, Briere, Dumont, Grier, Hecht, Kotalik, Pyatt, and Tallinder back.

    382388

You better rethink your stand on Zhitnik. Unless the Sabres plan on bringing in 1 or 2 top notch defensive defensemen, your #3-6 guys on the blueline are filled with journeymen like Jillson, Brown, Campbell and a 40-something James Patrick.

  10. Well, 25-35% more is better than 100% more.  And I'd have to think that Tom would be willing to open the purse strings to get the puck rolling so to speak and jump start interest in the team.

You're correct that the new salary structure is better than the old, I just wouldn't refer to it as a level playing field. As far as Golisano spending more, I guess it all depends what he is going to receive in terms of revenue sharing to supplement the team operating budget. The next couple of weeks should be very exciting as players are let go left and right. Combined with the start of training camp, it should make for an interesting month of August.

  11. I have a question as to the statements being made that the NHL is now a "level playing field". The Sabres in recent years had a team salary of around 30 million dollars and were "supposedly" losing 5-10 million per year. The new salary cap will be 39 million dollars. Lets assume the Sabres will have a team payroll of between 25-30 million in 05-06. This is somewhere between 9 and 14 million less than what the "spend at all cost" teams(DET, TOR, COL, DAL, NYR, etc...) will be playing with as they will all be spending right to the edge of the cap. I realize that the upper echelon teams will have to share revenue(details yet to be revealed), but I don't anticipate this being more than 1 or 2 million(combined) to each of the sisters of the poor.

That being said, where is the level playing field when there will be teams spending 25-35 percent more on players than the Sabres?

Maybe I'm missing something in the CBA?

  12. I believe that he is in the Hockey Hall of Fame in  the Journalist section. He was head of the National Hockey Writers Association for some time.  I miss having him around locally. I hope he starts to pop up on Howard Simon's show as the hockey season gets reved up.

There's is no time for guests on Howards show. It would cut into Jeremy White's air time.

  13. Speaking of worst ever, the worst thing I have ever heard (in any media) is the Heron's Landing radio ad played incessantly on WGR.  Because I don't have a gun to shoot the radio, I have vowed to merely change the channel every time I hear it.  Who are the ad wizards that came up with this one?

    381873

Speaking of bad radio ads...WGR is running an ad recently for two female dentists who are referred to in the ad as "chicks with drills". I am not sure if they are dentists, strippers or something else. Way to promote yourself girls!

  14. There seems to be some confussion between myself and a fellow coworker over NY's Chad Pennington and his famous midget football juke.

My coworker is telling me that Pennington put a "wicked" (as he put it) juke over Aaron Schobel in NY.

I preach that the juke over Eddie Robinson in NY as the Jets won 31-13. I know that is a fact but was there a time that Pennington "juked" out Schobel for a TD run?

This is the photo in question.

    Photo

    381886

Being the high motor guy that he is, Schobel rushed over to try and make the tackle in order to keep Pennington from scoring. Eddie Robinson is just to the left side of the picture with his legs twisted in the shape of a pretzel.

  15. Take her to a strip club near home some evening just so she can see what it

is all about. If she objects after that.... well we'll all feel sorry for you. :)

    381894

No need to go into details, but what happens at a strip club versus what happens at a stag with a stripper can range from quite similar to.....

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE STAG, STAYS AT THE STAG!

  16. I'll try to remember what it was but some local outlet was advertising last week an appearance by him doing what sounded like an extended sports interview or discussion.  Since I do not remember the details the main thing to take from this is that he is not dead yet and probably still on the scene locally.

I would expect with hockey back now that he will probably have a formal local gig of some sort.

    381867

Thanks for the update and for being brief!
