Roman will get those guys going down hill, no doubt. He's done great work with the running game. We aren't totally bare at OL. I think Marrone was a huge reason for their regression
What makes you think this? He lost the very people who made him successful. I would argue the other way. I think he'll continue to regress. New offense, aging skill players, I don't see him refocusing his career.
It just makes sense to draft young legs that for the system at RB. You can get a mid round pick to be a back by committee with Fred. Spend that money locking down a position harder to fill (LB leadership Spikes/Harris form NY)
It's all good in theory but the money used to retain him would be better spent elsewhere. We have many holes, depth areas that could be upgraded. I'd rather resign Spikes than Spiller. If he were under contract, this whole thread is having a way different conversation
So many ppl get caught up in numbers. You can't put a statistic on the advantages he bring to his defense. He is a beast in the run game, has double digit sacks despite frequent double teams and is a stand up guy. Our best player on the team. Glad he is getting the recognition
That is just one part of the picture. Factor in his flaws, contracts and the pick, what do you actually gain? A skinnier EJ? Ill take my chances with the new staff developing what we have
Grammar police. You need some punctuation. Are you saying that there is no way he sucks? Or are you arguing that there is no way you'd trade a second. Please pay your fine and sign the dotted line.
Square peg. Round hole. As much as you want it to fit, as hard as you try, you just cannot make his style work in a system unfit for his ability.
Do you really want to watch Spiller between the tackles again next year?
I can't stand him.
I think he is a cocky, overrated running-QB attempting to convert to a pocket passer. He's inaccurate and overpaid. Is he a way better option than anyone on our roster? Sure. But I'd rather explore other options than this.
Oh, and the fact I highly doubt that they'd give him up for a 2nd.
I don't understand this. Did we draft him for his perimeter blocking prowess?
Sure, he needs to be a competent blocker. But you'd like to think tht they have bigger plans in store for a guy of his caliber.
You could if you hit on one of your picks. The point is that this year there is no free agent QBs that are worth the time. Other positions can be filled, depth in free agency. I'm not suggesting it every year. You make great points about over paid veteran talent.
What would you like breakdown at QB to look like going into OTAs?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but idt they drafted Sammy for his blocking prowess. He has shown to be a competent blocker. I hope Roman has much bigger plans for him.
If you do it right, you wouldn't need to do it every year. I agree that Whaley has been very spot on with later picks (woods, brown, kiko) but I would absolutely sacrifice depth (something you could add through FA) for a competent signal caller
