  1. I remember dodgeball being pretty brutal when I was in high school. The game was banned for some time because one of the kids cowering in the back got nailed in the head so hard that he fell against the bleachers and was knocked out cold. We would always go after the ones that tried to hide in the back. Take out the weakest first.

  2. HBO's Real Sports just did a piece on this. It's get's even worse than just banning dodgeball, there is a elementary school where they have altered the classic playground game of tag where you don't actually tag the other person but you step on their shadow. This school has actually gone so far as to not allow any touching whatsoever. With hi-fives the children are told to stop short of making contact with the other hand. It's pathetic. There are gym teachers that teach jump roping without the rope! As one person aptly put it in the piece, the wussification of our nations children continues.

  3. Sorry but conservatives are not made up solely of Republicans. At least we're realizing our party has become a sham. Eventually you come around and realize yours has become one too.

I think that is highly unlikely. That would be like asking BF to come around to the realization that it doesn't take an hour to cook pasta.

  4. I would love to. I do not know if the wife would approve. Something about women in theiir 3rd trimester of being pregnant that they get really cranky whenever their husband wants to do something fun.

Consider yourself lucky if you're only limited when your wife is pregnant. "Thou shall not enjoy oneself when the wife is not present" might as well have been in the vows at our wedding.

  5. Or if perhaps the most likely extenuating circumstance that his reaction time was diminished because he was intoxicated. I wonder if you would be so willing to forgive if it were your family member that was killed.

Exactly. Being the victim of a wreckless (albeit unimpaired) driver myself I have zero sympathy for any idiot that kills or seriously injures someone due to their own selfish behavior.

  6. It seems weird to hear about big tough NFL players just giving up but that just goes to show how important it is plan ahead for the elements because they are a lot tougher than we are.

I know nothing about boats but it seems that maybe they could put a covered hatch on the bottom of the boat that opened to a sort of padded bed that has a heater for the padding and several gallons of fresh water that can be sucked out through a straw and a little closed cabinet with some food stored away. They would have one on each side of the boat to balance it out for two people and if only one person is on board there is a way to move some ballast over to even out the floating. It could even have a folded umbrella to keep the sun out.

This would be an extremely expensive option but for those who could afford it they would be smart to include it. If that's even viable.

    Just a thought.

Or he could have installed one of these as was apparently suggested to him a few days prior to the incident. What a tragedy.

  7. First, I need to ask: Why???

Second, did you see the cholesterol on the label?? 3,500 Mg . . . Isn't that something like 10 days worth of the RDA?

I can go one step further. I have actually consumed some brains in milk gravy. It involved a dare and excessive amount of alcohol. I remember it being very salty (go back and read the sodium content on the label). Some of the greasy spoon diners here in the south often have "brains & eggs" on the breakfast menu.

  8. The lottery is in essence a tax on the stupid. As for these winners, good for them. However I hope they don't fall victim to what so many do when they come into so much money. Time and time again you read about how people blow through millions of dollars that comes in a windfall. Each one of these people should already have an attorney and/or financial advisor to help steer them away from potential pitfalls. I'm sure family, friends and co-workers are already descending upon them like vultures.

  9. "Buy and Hold" is simply a phrase or idea that people who have not put any thought into investing hang on to.

I beg to differ. I have put an enormous amount of time into researching what investment strategy works best for me. Buy and hold index fund investing is boring for sure, and I'll never be able to brag about beating the market on a year to year basis. But market timers have deluded themselves into thinking they are smarter than the average investor. They aren't. Over the long run the market will prove to be 'smarter' than you. One of my favorite quotes from Dr. William Berstein:

"There are two kinds of investors, be thay large or small: those who don't know where the market is headed, and those who don't know that they don't know."

  10. People always get lambasted for "timing the market"... Yadda, yadda, yadda, and how bad it is to do it. My question is for the common folk out there: "Why have people stayed in?" Especially the last 5-6 months... All they are doing is losing their shirts and watching their retirement accounts go up in smoke. My God, I have locked everything down in positive gaining securities since late August... Last year I only lost about 4% total! I can't imagine what I would have lost if I listened to the "experts" that said to stay in this con game.

For the young, this may be a good thing that the market crashes? That is the way I am looking at it.

Basically, there has been no better time to "time" than than 5-6months ago... I can't understand why people keep falling for this con game. If you want to earn some money, you have beeter odds at the boat than in the market the last 5-6 months!

Maybe I am just overly conservative... Maybe too slow and steady, but at least I am not broke.

Because none of us have a crystal ball.
