While Romo’s comment was spot on, I’d be interested to see if the league or network doesn’t have a word with him. He and Nantz together made that one of the worst broadcasts I’ve listened to in recent years. The announcers job is to keep eyeballs on screens…..not to make you question whether your time would be better spent cleaning the gutters.

YES, they are bad.  They use all the preplanned inserts to tell "story lines".  But, they don't call the game for the fans.  Who got hurt...the wide reciever, didn't know his name.  At least get those guys some spotters to feed them the names.  Who go hurt?l  NO coverage if it isn't a QB.  Who subbed in?  Never mentioned.  The NFL broadcast are now canned in format, and must be trying to appeal to folks that are not football fans.

While I fully believe that -- ON AVERAGE -- that's true...

Home Field Advantage is DEFINITELY a very real thing for some teams.

The Bills were 10-0 at home last year. 3-5 on the road.

    Chiefs, Ravens, Seahawks...

There are absolutely some teams in this league (and the Bills are one of them) for whom home field advantage matters.

If the Bills practiced more in the cold weather, they could maximize the advantage somewhat more.  Used to bwe the cold weather environment was a clear buffalo advantage.  (except against other cold weather teams )  McD doesn't do much outside, spend the practice time inside installing the weeks plans.  Thats ok, but really gotta do both.

  3. I watched Dan play on a black and white TV in the EM club at Fort Polk, LA in 1968.  Small screen, the AFL fans, in those days, were closet cases, and the big room color TV's were for the ,then, NFL fans.  This was the time of the AFL/NFL bidding wars, and I had a few debates w the guys from Chicago and NY.  Anyhow, DD had a tough go that season, I think that was the season that allowed the Bills to draft OJ.

Mark Kelso has long lived in the southtowns. Ernie Warlick lived up near Williamsville until he passed (I think). Attended church with both of those men in different seasons of my life.

Charlie Ferguson if he is still alive.  Was a collegue of mine after his Bills career.  Played around Ernie Warlick's time, was also a TE.

  5. Parsons was a  no show when the Bills ran the ball down the boys throat in their last visit to Buffalo.  You can't get sacks if you can force the opposition to throw the ball.  That makes me think Parsons is a gross overpay with Parson not great against the run. And the Pack got had.  don't know what Dallas got, but they already did the Dak overpay so were not gonna do another. a good on Jer....

The difference here, as opposed to traditional labor unions is that there is not an alternative option for the players.

If there was another big time, high paying league who could take these players, then it would really be ON.

So if teams really take it seriously and "make an example" out of players who won't "submit", those players would be SOL and have to take a traditional career route or play a different sport.

Even the first and second round guys need it more than the league needs them. Yes, there is scarcity in high end talent, but there is far more scarcity of jobs in this sector nationwide. So the teams will always have the power.

I remember the NFL/AFL days.  That wasn't good for football, and the merger took care of that.  The AFC was formed around the AFL teams mostly.  Lots of folks here don't recall that mess.  The Bills were in the middle of it.  They lost Pete Gogolak (kicker) to the Giants which started the bidding war.  The bills went after Mike Ditka, the all pro TE from the Bears, then.  It was brutal and teams and money was big for those poached. (not by todays standards, though)  I don't have any desire to see another big time league form.  But, with all the money out there chasing football, I would not rule it out.  Maybe the Saudi's will bankroll a new league, ala the golf situation.  That would be interesting to watch.  Of course, you could argue that College football has become the alternate pro league.

As for Sanders, the young man has a tough road, who knows how it will play out.  But, if he can play, he can succeed. (see Kurt Warner)

Getting concerned about the Bills starting Tre White as CB2, especially with Max Hairston being injured. I’ve always liked Tre and hoped he could rebound from his injuries, but so far, the reports about Tre getting burnt regularly are getting worrisome.

Yup, an old slow CB can't do the job.  I am thinking about..Josh Norman, Vontae Davis.....etc etc.  McD likes old and takes slow as the penality.

  8. Bad situation.  Bills can't pay him the full market price.  Paying Josh has its consequences.  HE may well sit until week 10, and get to free agency.  A plausible outcome.  The Bills have other backs, and he would not, then, have a fancy set of  25 stats to hit the market with.  I, for one, like this rb by committee.  Lets do 1/3 each and let the chips fall where they may.  Cook demanding more playing time sounds like Diggs, even though he is supposedly of good character.  His brother coaching him on this I think, and that means he is likely gone, one way or the other.  So be it, we have our QB, and will do what we do with the tools at hand.

  9. I learned in industry, a dog in one setting can be a star in another.  Perhaps he just needed a fresh start.  Maybe the McD culture didn't mesh w his worldview.  Such things happen.  I wish him well.  (not the 'boys, but Elam)

I said it another thread… I think these guys should all get as much as they can as soon as they can. Football careers can be built or destroyed by the organization combined with the coaching staff and the player all meshing well and seeing things the same. How many guys washed out because of the situation they got drafted into and then their confidence shook, an injury handled incorrectly, whatever else… No get paid. Get paid as much as you can. You have earned that right.

Well, yes.  And, I expect the Bills to negotiate hard and not sign stupid deals that will handcuff them down the road.  Let each team and player represent their interests, and let the chips fall where they may.

  11. I have not seen that level of play from him in his games against the Bills.

We didn't have any players at the level of Wilson or Gardner when McBeane came to town. If we had, we wouldn't have traded them either. Those are both franchise cornerstone players at premium positions and the Jets would be crazy not to keep them around for the rebuild.

Actually, Beane traded Sammy Watkins........and Cordy Glenn.....perhaps more.
