...because it is the government's responsibility to protect people from themselves. Here is a thought. Charities do far better work (and much more efficiently) than the government ever could. If you want family planning or free birth control, etc, donate to that charity. Stop taking money out of my pocket to fund it. Privatizing these services is a good thing. Look at Katrina. The charities (especially, those evil faith-based charities) were on site providing relief faster than any government agency.

Just follow the next logical step. Since there are those who feel that sex is a fundamental right, we need to increase taxes so that we can have government provided brothels for those poor who do not have significant other's in their lives. My job doesn't pay me enough to buy a temperature-controlled fermenter for making beer. The government should create a new program and the taxpayers should pay for my new temperature-controlled fermenter. Why should I be deprived of making certan styles of beer, just becuse I cannot afford the necessary equipment?

This gets back to, again, the taxpayer paying for personal irresponsibility. Fiscal responsibility is not adding more to government spending to pay for irresponsible behavior.

I just picked up a 12-pack of Trojan condoms for $8.99. Don't give me this crap about not being about not being able to afford it, especially in the light of the fact that diseases and children are a HELL of a lot more expensive than $8.99. The responsible choice is to get the protection instead of the six-pack of beer, the cup of coffee each day, the McDonalds run, etc. It is extremely easy to come up with $8.99, even on the tightest of budgets.
