I have to ask this MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION!
JoeF replied to mellaman101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes...getting rid of a guy who basically publicly trashed the city and now is trashing the team usually hurts the box office. The Bills are reapportioning how they spend their money--focusing on getting better at the OL, which one could argue improves us in a lot of ways. They have an emerging QB with a quirky and unique personality; and up and coming WR; a great young pair of playmaking safeties and an all pro sackmaster upon which to build -- and they have a lot of good young talent--Crowell, McGee, Kyle Williams, Ellison, Kelsay, Denney--there is a plan here, one which doesn't inlcude investing in: 1) A RB who simply did not want to be here--he may be excellent in his new locale but never would have acheived to his full potential in Buffalo 2) A really good CB who they helped hit free agency in the right year so he was out of their price range 3) A 32 year old MLB who simply got engulfed on many running plays last year (if you don't believe me watch the film) I think most Bills fans are smart enough to see the semblance of a plan forming...I have heard more complaints about the OL in the last 7 years than any position on the team--we finally have a staff that is doing something about it..Consistent W's will draw the crowds but I think most folks see the plan. -
Fine name you have there. Welcome aboard.

None of the guys Marv is bringing in are start material

Totally agree...posted this in another thread last night... Its no surprise that the parade of RB's is coming through OBD...upgrading the line early in FA was a great move to get a vet RB--but we still draft a RB no matter who the vet is...I still keep going back to Marv's press conference before FA when he said "We are not impressed with the crop of Free Agent running backs"...Brown, Rhodes, Dillon are all upgrades to Thomas and can handle the load while a rookie learns the game and gradually works into the line-up RB is one of those positions where rookies seem to be able to contribute in their first year at a fairly high level. A good runner can usually adjust quickly in the run game but the learning curve is with pass blocking schemes and blitz pick-up... -
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/footbal...-home-headlines Baltimore Sun reporting that team McGahee and the Ravens have not yet worked out an extension. Nothing about a 2nd and 5th but more lamenting that Jamal Lewis signing with the Browns means that the Ravens may have to give up a second instead of a third. Titans also interested in McGahee http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...395/1002/SPORTS

That is a really, really low bar...but a lot of that can be blamed on our lack of push.... Its no surprise that the parade of RB's is coming through OBD...upgrading the line early in FA was a great move to get a vet RB--but we still draft a RB no matter who the vet is...I still keep going back to Marv's press conference before FA when he said "We are not impressed with the crop of Free Agent running backs"...Brown, Rhodes, Dillon are all upgrades to Thomas and can handle the load while a rookie learns the game and gradually works into the line-up Reed is a great change of pace for a special play or two a game-- a pitch; some motion; a circle route down the sideline--he is also an excellent blocker -- probably could kick ass in blitz pick-up and then peel off...

What happened after his promising first year? http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/493015 Comment: Moore is tall, athletic. He has enough short-area quickness to separate off the line. He is a big target who can be highly effective in the red zone. He has solid catching skills, good leaping ability and can extend to catch the ball away from his frame. He has deceptive vertical speed. He is an above-average route runner and has good downfield setup. He has some cutting ability and is savvy enough to work into open areas. But Moore is lean and regressed as a player in 2005. He lacks functional play strength and sometimes struggles to get a good upfield release. He isn't very explosive and can be rerouted by physical cover 2 cornerbacks. He is more natural on inside cuts than outside cuts. He has to really lower his hips to create separation on outside routes. He isn't very explosive or elusive in open space. He isn't a physical or consistent run blocker.

Maybe even the Heisman...or the Maxwell...to add to his Biletnikoff

I never thought I'd hear this from Rosenhaus

Okay, what do I do with my other two wishes? -
You know -- I was a big critic of McMichael--but Rhodes actually has an incident of "significant other" abuse and now a DUI...if we are moving down this path..why not give Randy McMichael a look. With the presumption that our TE's can actually be part of the passing game instead of the pass blocking scheme now on most plays--he could be a great weapon. Standard would be -- one incident and he is gone...
-
Totally agree with you, Mad and Jester. The guy is a weapon. I have read a couple of places that he has a rep as Party Hearty Marty..maybe he and Willis can hang in Toronto on off days.

2nd Quarter 3-8-MIA49 (15:00) (Shotgun) J.Harrington pass incomplete short middle to R.McMichael. Dropped, receiver at BUF 46. 3rd Quarter 3-10-MIA19 (7:17) (Shotgun) J.Harrington pass incomplete short middle to R.McMichael. Dropped, receiver at MIA 20. 2nd Quarter 2-8-MIA13 (10:12) (Shotgun) J.Harrington pass incomplete short left to R.McMichael. Underthrown, receiver at MIA 16 (I think this one was catchable if I remember). http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_footb..._earns_cha.html This is a blog but Lerner is their beat writer. He mentions 3 drops. The other day I posted 5 -- so I was wrong. Vet Min or maybe a little bit over on a two year deal with a small signing bonus I am okay with this...but the first time he misbehaves -- see ya. Marv will never do this.

I can't believe you all are excited about trading the "father" of our country...

Trade Down to the mid to low teens and pick up a 2nd or 3rd rounder...

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/o...r-whittle_x.htm Chris Brown just posted this on bb.com...its an emotional read of how Jason Whittle became involved front and center with the tragedy....

Take out Cadillac--that still leaves 14 --- a contract that is the average of the top 15 still overpays Willis
-
The Buffalo News article today speculates a camp holdout if we keep him--two things on that.. 1) As much as I detest the aura that is Drew Rosenhaus--he is not stupid. Holding out in a contract year would be stupid beyond belief. 2) If by some act of God Willis did hold out, with his alleged wonderful study and preparation habits, would we even be able to tell... I'd rather have him stay and work out a reasonable extension--one that accurately reflects his production as probably top 15 but not top 5 talent.. I believe the following are much to slightly better (In no particular order) 1) Tomlinson 2) Larry Johnson 3) Willie Parker 4) Rudi Johnson 5) Thomas Jones 6) Fred Taylor 7) Clinton Portis 9) Brian Westbrook 9) Warrick Dunn 10) Duece McAllister 11) Reggie Bush 12) Cadillac Williams 13) Frank Gore 14) Shaun Alexandar 15) Stephen Jackson I also believe Joseph Addai and Maurice Jones Drew will prove to be better.. If Willis gets an offer that is the average of the top 15-- he should shut his mouth and be happy.

The last 7 years have been full of third and shorts where we just plain got our ass handed to us.....Time of Possession is going to be an interesting stat to track next year as is 3rd down conversions...it will be interesting to see the improvement. -
Pats to sign Wes Welker to an offer sheet
JoeF replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Theoretically, owners want players to have as little leverage as possible. What Welkers agent probably did say is my client has been contacted by 10 teams--your base offer was X and you want to add another point to the agreement that will almost assuredly mean that my client will end up playing with you. If I shopped the inclusion of that point to the 10 other teams I can get Y amount more than you are offering for the inclusion of that clause in the offer my client signs. Its not any stronger than any other negotiating point--but its a point. -
two time wife beater....dropped about 6 balls in the second Fins-Bills game..I like him better as an opponent.

What are you talking about?..There is a negotiation between the player/agent and the bidding team to get an RFA offer. If the team is going to use a poison pill in the RFA offer sheet--the player and agent know that..and this basically tells them they are going to end up with the new team. It becomes a negotiating point --to sign something with a poison pill in it--I want $250K more a year...why do you think the Union wants to protect it..its another leverage point for the player. An RFA can negotiate with any team--if a team is going to use a poison pill and another is not the player an agent can use that to up the price for the team that wants the poison pill.. -

I disagree..the player knows when he signs a deal like this that he is basically going to end up with the new team. A smart agent will leverage this fact to up the ante. -

Yep--its a CBA rule that would need both sides to agree. If I was the NFLPA there is no way I am agreeing to change this one..it gets younger guys who are RFA's and Transition and Franchised free agents more cash. To get a player to sign a deal like that the bidding team needs to sweeten the pot and that's always in the union's best interest. Look at Hutchinson last year..and look at the floor of the market for the top 3 guards it established this year in the UFA market.. -

So they could write in something like if God and the Chosen QB don't play on your team, the whole contract is guaranteed..just hypothetically in this case..
