I heard Marty Schottenheimer on Sirius radio today and
The Dean replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nonsense. I would need to actually have the season play out before judging the team. How did they lose? When did they lose? Were they riddled with injuries? Were they competitive in games? All of that, and more, would go into the label of "in shambles". The Bills finished 7-9 under DJ in his three years as HC. In 2006, the team was remarkably improved from the previous year and finished the season looking pretty good. While no great accomplishment, I'd give DJ a fair grade for that 7-9 team. In 2007 the team was riddled with injuries especially on defense. While I wasn't happy with the coaching (to say the least) a 7-9 record wasn't horrible given the circumstances. But they did look pretty bad on the field, at times. Last year the team started on fire and fizzled like a lost team. The coaching was horrible. 7-9 last year was an embarrassment. So, you can see why I won't answer your overly-simplistic hypothetical question with the choices you gave. -

Why settle for a coach that merely makes the playoffs, instead of wining there? Cowher is 12-9 in the playoffs (More playoff appearances than Marty in six fewer seasons and a way better record in those games.) Even Shanny is 8-5 in the playoffs. And he has coached for 16 seasons. -

My bad. I knew he meant curry smells, but thought he meant... Oh, never mind. the confusion was on my part, not in his post. I like garlic and curry, but I process them fairly well. Some people really reek when they eat garlic. -

Cowher might be "over rated" but he's a better option than Marty, IMO. My preference would be Cowher or Shanny. Unfortunately, I don't think the Bills have a realistic shot at grabbing either. -
Stunningly ignorant comment. Goodell is the head of a multi-billion dollar industry. He has the right and obligation to protect the league (and its image). I have no problem with giving a convicted felon a second chance. But there is nothing that requires him to hire that felon for a very public position...in fact good sense dictates against something like that.

Marty didn't lose to Elway. Marty lost playoff games because his sphincter was so tight, he coached like Jauron during the playoffs, most of the time. BTW, I think Marty is an improvement over Jauron, just not a big enough improvement, IMO. The Bills aren't a team in shambles, they are an underachieving team. If the Bills go for a HC with NFL experience, how about a coach that WINS playoff games? -

Indeed. Jauron is just a poor-man's Marty. -

I think of Marty in the way I think of Chuck Knox. If you have a MISERABLE team (think Detroit), those guys can make you competitive. Maybe get you to the playoffs, after a few years. But that's pretty much their top-end. -

Did he mention how poorly he has done in the playoffs? Just curious. -
Welcome to the board. I really think the reason a guy like Cowher won't get the Bills' gig is because: Cowher has no interest in coming to Buffalo. He will get offers from more attractive teams/markets. Now, let's say he would even speak to Buffalo about the job (a big assumption, IMO). He would likely want far more to coach the Bills than he would to coach many other teams. I don't think Ralph likes having to pay MORE for a HC (or a player) than Dallas, Washington, NY, etc. I'm sure Ralph probably thinks that's a sucker play.

Again, his suspension the past two years is MEANINGLESS. He was either in jail or in the process of negotiating his guilty play. Either way, he couldn't have played. Goodell could have suspended a Unicorn for the difference it made to either Vick or the Unicorn.
-
Vick's suspension for the past two seasons was as meaningful as if I were suspended for the past two years. Neither one of us was going to play in the NFL those two years. I have backed Goodell for the most part, but this is totally disgusting. A huge embarrassment to the NFL.

I disagree with Carucci about Youboty
The Dean replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Youboty is a far better NFL cornerback than Lankster, at this point in their careers. It's really not that close. Youboty is a good cover corner and a one of the best tacklers on the team. When he plays, he's probably better than Corner, as a cover CB. Corner has a nose for the INT, though. Ashton's problem is staying on the field. He has been on the team for 3 years and can't seem to stay healthy for more than a few games at a time. So, since neither will be a starter, and since Lankster is younger and has the potential to grow (and can fill in as a returner, if needed) he may get the nod. -

Corner is in no danger of being cut, IMO. Youboty's fate is not tied to Corner. -
LIVE ONLINE STREAM FOR GAME TONITE
The Dean replied to brianthomas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The links are spotty, at best, IMO. It helps if you have a very fast Internet connection, but you are still at the mercy of the streamer. During the season there are usually several streams, some better than others. Few, if any, compare to watching the game on TV. The only time I watch on the computer, during the season, is if I am too sick to go out (the bar where I watch the game is right next to my condo complex). Now, there are legit options to watch online (at a price, of course) and I imagine the quality of those is better than the streams I watch. -
LIVE ONLINE STREAM FOR GAME TONITE
The Dean replied to brianthomas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have used myp2p a lot, in the past. This Stream Torrent stuff is new, though. During the season I doubt you will need this software, as there are typically a few streams, and they usually don't involve any special software. But if it turns out this is the best way to get the game (when I can't get to the bar) then I will consider installing it. -

The Dean replied to brianthomas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That could be the issue. It requires Stream Torrent, as dog mentioned. Here's the bit: http://www.myp2pforum.eu/streamtorrent/421...eamtorrent.html If I needed it for a regular season game, I might install it, but see no reason to put another piece of crappy software on my machine for this game. -

I think you need a special player. I'm not installing it to watch the last preseason game. -

How? The link at myp2p does nothing for me. -
LIVE ONLINE STREAM FOR GAME TONITE
The Dean replied to brianthomas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Typically, they are links (not downloads) to streaming video sites. Some of the links require "special" software (not something that is typically on your computer already...Sopcast, for example), in order for the video to play. One should always check out the scoop on the software before downloading and installing it on a computer. But from my experience, myp2p links to legit sites that use legit software. -

So far, no stream. I looked in all the regular (and irregular) places I know. There is something listed at myp2p forum, but it is not a real link. IceTV1? Never heard of it. Just a comment on the other discussion here. Typically (especially during preseason, but often during the season) the links on Homer, Justin, Channelsurfing, atdhe, myp2p, etc. link to the same stream (or two). -
Any site to watch the game online?

Never mind. It went bad in a hurry.
