1. Just curious about admission criteria. My GPA in college was a paltry 2.79 (partying was far more important) but I have my BS in Computer Science. Actually did pretty well in most of my courses, but let a couple of D's and F's slide in there, mostly because I really didn't give a rats a$$.

Been in the banking industry for about 6 years, and I'm also a vet and get get some sweet letters of recommendation. But really, with my GPA, it's mostly gonna boil down to the LSAT, or so I'm guessing.

My thought is, I'll probably need somewhere in the neighborhood of a 165-170, which, I feel I can attain with some preperation. Right now the few test/practice ones I've taken with no prep or study have me in the mid to low 160's. If I can push my average up by 5 points, I think 170 or even higher isn't unreasonable.

Any thoughts? (Aside from "yeah don't do it there are already enought lawyers...")

    Thanks in advance. :o

  2. Also I noticed a lot of people are saying they can get the PS3's?? We still can't find them anywhere here in or around Jacksonville NC. May be a blessing in disguise though.... :censored:

Yeah, it isn't much of a challenge to get a 60 gig PS3 at the moment.

Let's put it this way, I'm what the industry refers to as a hardcore gamer. I basically have owned every gaming console released in the US (including Commodore's, TRS-80's, Amiga's, Apple II's, PC's etc) with the exception of the Turbo Graphix, the Saturn, and the Jaguar.

When the PS3 gives me a compelling reason to own it, I'll be the first in line. Right now, that reason does not exist. So in short, yeah consider it a blessing. By the time there is a killer app for the PS3 the price will hopefully be lowerede and they will have the kinks ironed out of the first manufacturing run.

As far as 360 games go, right now there are so many good ones it's really hard to recommend a couple without knowing your sons taste in games.

Like Fezmid said, your best bet is GoW. Other great apps are Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Splinter Cell:Double Agent, Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion, Fight Night Round 3, and Call of Duty 3 (most for the multiplayer component).

  3. I'd rather have rumble than tilt control. Plus, I can recharge/replace my batteries; last I read, the batteries in the sixaxis controller are built in, so when they no longer hold a charge, you need a new controller. Plus, you can't just pop a battery out and put a new one in if it starts to die. I don't count this as an advantage for the PS3 at all. (did Sony change their mind and make hte controller with removable batteries? I havn't checked).

    Nope. Batteries not removable.

That my friends, is a special brand of retardation.

Speaking of PS3's, I went to Gamestop yesterday to use a giftcard. Half expecting a punch in the face, I asked the clerk if they had any PS3's in stock. To my surprise he said "Oh yeah, a ton of 'em. 60 gig'ers. They're piling up, 'cause everybody wants a Wii."

I knew demand had dropped but didn't realize it had dropped so low that the consoles were literally "piling up" at stores.

  4. I've been thinking about getting back into this game.

If you get with the right bunch of guys it can be pretty fun. Yeah the learning curve was steep when I played (may 2 or so years ago) but I think there have been some significant updates since then that make the game more playable while still maintaining it's unique qualities.

If you end up getting it let me know, as I might give it another go.

  5. My point is: if he's convinced his orders are illegal, he's trying to weasel out of responsibility for avoiding them.  Basically, he's trying to avoid taking a stand.

Either it's an illegal war, or it's legal.  Seems to me he's trying to say "Well...it's illegal...but I don't believe that strongly enough to completely not support it....so can I just sort-of not support it?"  That's cowardly, not having conviction in his beliefs.

    874930

Thanks for the clarification, I see what you were getting at now...

  6. What is he being motivated by, then?  "I think the war's illegal, so I'll go there if I don't have to shoot."

Frankly, I think he IS a coward.  Not because he doesn't want to fight, but because he conditionally doesn't want to serve in a war he thinks is unjust.  Not a hell of a lot of conviction behind that belief, it seems...

    874595

For the record, I think he is wrong too... but I'm not sure I understand your logic here...

He declined a safe job in Iraq, sort of proving that it isn't his personal safety that is his main concern. He is against that particular conflict so by refusing a presumably safe job there, he kinda stood by his convictions.

Either way though, his CIC is saying "go do this" and he "thinks" it's an illegal order. At that level you aren't paid to make those decisions. He isn't being asked to do anything illegal or immoral as far as I can tell, so yeah, they should throw the book at him.

Kinda embarrassing to me, as he is 2nd ID, of which I was once a member.

  7. For those of you who have found the Wii's Sensor Bar wire too short for your setup, here is an easy solution:

    1. Cut the plug off the end.

    2. Strip some of the wire so it's bare. (I also recommend cleaning the wire off with a solvent or even a lighter as there seems to be a coating on it)

    3. Connect the bare wire to a 9 volt battery.

    4. Play and enjoy.

I'm gonna be coming up with a more permanent solution that will probably involve a DC adapter.

The sensor bar is essentially a set of LED's and nothing else. You can even trick your Wii into working without the sensor bar by using lit candles about a foot aprt. No, I'm not kidding.

One other thing to note, you can tell if your sensor bar is powered properlly (you should be sending it somewhere between 7.5 and 9 volts DC) by looking through a digital or cell phone camera, which will enable to see the LED's, as they are not in the spectrum of normal vision.

    Good Luck!

  8. From ESPN:

"The Bills probably won't make the playoffs, but Dick Jauron deserves some coach of the year consideration."

"Titans defense scores three TDs for the first time in the 47-year history of the Oilers/Titans. Oh yeah, they've also won five in a row and are in the middle of the playoff race."

So with us ahead of them in the tie breaker, they are still in the playoff hunt, and we are not?

  9. If I could change one thing about our justice system, I'd make it so that those who intentionally inflict suffering on another living person or pet be made to endure a similar form of suffering themselves. I know that will never happen, cause the logistics of such a thing would be damn near impossible to establish....but still, is jail really THAT much of a punishment for a lot of these folks?

I hate to admit this on a damn message board, but I honestly don't know what I'd do if I ever caught someone doing something like that....I'd totally lose it!

    871763

I found myself fantasizing about what I'd do to these guys, and let me assure you it would be something other than pleasant.

  10. Every time these guys are brought up they're misquoted & taken out of context ad nauseum; that's what gets old.

    869667

I haven't seen many folks report stuff here that seemed out of the norm for these two. Granted, they may have been quoted poorly, and often out of context, but there is little denying they prefer the dark cloud to the silver lining.

  11. It's like trying to ask how many meters do the Bills need to go for a first down.  Football is measured in yards and there is no correlation to meters, just like months and days.  Get it?

    868368

Yeah, we get it. You are a knee biter.

By the way, there is a correlation. A very direct one. 9.144 meters to be exact.

  12. It won't look like slander if a baby is born exactly nine months after that party at the same time of day will it?

No one has disputed she was at the party during these times and if the baby is born then it will be proof she had sex while there.  It won't prove which one of these kids is the dad, that'll take a DNA test, but it will prove it was one of the players or at least someone at the party.

    867777

Do you eat paint chips too?

How will the baby being born 9 after the supposed rape prove a damn thing about where the baby was conceived? She could have been knocked up 3 days later for all you know.

  13. You should never give fliuds to people in shock. (Let me be more clear... you should not let them drink)

However given the circumstances it would have been ok to do so, because heat stroke/exhaustion may have been the problem, in which case fluids are good.

Edit: Few peeps beat me to it, but all in all, it sounds like you used good judgement. These types of "rules" for treatment need to be applied with a dose of common sense.

  14. Unless you're yall.  Priceless.

    866644

I'm guessing you can't read well. Where did I slag CoachChuckDickerson for his priorities?

    Please... show me.

    Edit:

Rather than triple posting, I'd like to throw this out there as well.

A few people, myself included have demonstrated that a percentage (although possibly a very small one) would consider leaving the area if the Bills were no longer here. Considering that the Bills also have the power to "lure" in residents (as they did in my case...) their absence could, and likely would, have a detrimental effect on the current problem of population exodus that WNY is experiencing.

If you think things are not so hot around here now, can you imagine the potential economic impact of the Bills leaving?

  15. All of that said, the Sabres and the Bills are just an icing on the cake for me. Famliarity, home town, friends, AND I can go to Bills games? Every week? Without airfare? Sign me up!

    Jeff

I guess my point is that I can get cake anywhere.

I have no relatives in the area, and I get job offers from all over the country all of the time.

The fact of the matter is I enjoy watching professional sports, and if I really don't give two stevestojan's about where I live with regard to climate or proximity to family (they are all spread out). I may as well find something about an area that I enjoy.

The main thing that sets WNY apart from the rest of the country FOR ME is the 2 pro sports teams. Otherwise I could be just as happy in San Diego.

  16. I love the Bills as well, but if you are making life decisions based on the Bills you might want to re-evaluate some things.

    866600

    Screw that.

I moved here because of the Bills. What's wrong with that?

Some people move to Arizona for the dry air, some to Florida for the sun.

I could move to California if I wanted, but I wouldn't be able to go to Sabres or Bills games. Sure the weather would be nicer, and I'd make more money, but figure in the cost of living adjustments and I'd be no better off... well except for the few extra dollars I might have from NOT attending the home games for my two favorite profressional teams.

"Life decisions" are based on a number of factors. Don't slag somebody because their priorities differ from yours.

  17. Real sorry to hear that, but keep your head up man.

I don't know much about breast cancer, but my pop had esophogeal cancer and he had a 5% chance according to his doctors.

At one point they told him to call hospice because they thought he had about 2 weeks left before he died. That was 2 years ago. You look at him now and never would know anything was wrong.

The biggest thing is a positive mental attitude, which can help even in the worst cases.

Stay positive, listen to the doctors, but ask them questions too. They are far from perfect and you need to stay on top of them.

Good luck to your mom and your family.

  18. I could NEVER root for the Bills if they left Western NY. EVER.

    864140

If the Bills left, I'd leave.

They are the main reason I went to school in Fredonia and stayed here after graduation. I love going to the games and really look forward to the home opener every year.

Our economy is lousy and the taxes are horrid. The Bills are one of the few reasons remaining to love this town/area.

I can only imagine what kind of impact the team leaving would have on the economy and psyche of WNY.

  19. No one has ever been able to handle freedom when they've had it thrust upon them.  They have to earn it.

    860341

A lot of people said that about the Japanese after WW2. They may be the exception (and granted it's not as though under the Emperor it was an entirely totalitarian regieme as we know it) but there was an underlying somewhat racist sentiment that those sandle wearing goldfish tenders wouldn't be able to handle democracy.
