Did anyone in another thread actually state that there are traits that are 100% heritable, or did the OP just misunderstand something?
(Im not going through that tedious regression thread again to find an answer...)

A plan to build a hotel in the Elmwood - Forest area of Buffalo was also killed not too long ago:
“Susan Curran Hoyt claimed the hotel is still too large, and asked if the hotel size could be further reduced.”
Does anyone see a pattern here?
I do, she is the Lorena Bobbit of the architechtural world.
Glad I'm not her husband....

You have to start somewhere. I can't believe how excited people were about BASS PRO and then question a legitimate idea/proposal on this project.
Tall buildings, NO!
Bait shop, YES!

Regardless of the type of agreement (verbal or otherwise) it was publicly acknowledged. For Bills management to go back on their word, especially on something that is fairly high-profile, would not be a good way to attract and retain good players.

1. Artose Pinner: Extremely well spoken. Same girlfriend since 11th grade. No baby mommas. Loves Minneapolis and never wants them to move to St. Paul.
2. Cedric Houston: Always talks in complete sentences. Happily married. No baby mommas. Never says a bad word about NY or NJ.
3. Sammy Morris: Never kids with the press. Practices safe sex. No baby mommas. Still speaks highly of Buffalo even though he plays for Miami.
4. Brian Calhoun: Reads Cat Fancy and not Penthouse. Is celibate and plans to be a minister. No baby mommas. Says great things about Detroit even though he doesn't believe them.
5. P.J. Pope: Dead serious all the time. Demands blowjobs from ho's so they don't get pregnant. Only one baby momma. Says Green Bay, Wisconsin is the best place to live ever.
I'm all for #3.
I still proudly wear my Sammy jersey.

In our earlier discussion, some of those who disagreed with me implied that if a trait was less than 100% heritable (in the narrow sense), evolutionary forces wouldn't apply. This implication, if correct, would undermine the basis for Darwinism.
Are you sure that's what they said? Can a trait even be considered to be 100% heritable?
-
Suppose there's a trait out there for, say, height, which is 80% determined by parents' antler sizes, and 20% determined by environment, random chance, or recessive genes. Under those circumstances, if two parents were 100 units above the average height, their children would, on average, be 80 units above the population's average.
Suppose that being taller conferred a survival advantage or reproduction advantage of some sort. Darwinism tells us to expect the population to become progressively taller. But there are those on these boards who implied otherwise--that this drifting back towards the population's mean would over the long run cancel out whatever genetic incentives for height Darwinism would otherwise have provided. According to this view, only those traits which are 100% heritable are candidates for Darwinistic evolution. Moreover, Darwinistic pressure towards increasing levels of height is presumed to bring about far more harm than good, due to the assumed reduction in the level of genetic diversity.
I'd point out that if the views in the above paragraph are adopted, Darwinism's scope of influence becomes very narrow indeed. Few if any traits are 100% heritable. If the basis for Darwinism is rejected, all we're left with is Creationism. Do we need to start taking Creationism seriously? Or should we start believing Darwinism can and does work even if a trait isn't 100% heritable?
I'm a Christian, but I believe that the basis for Darwinism is sound. Consider that the chihuahua is descended from wolf ancestors! Given a steady source of genetic pressure, and enough generations, animals can and will experience large changes. These changes aren't limited to traits that are 100% heritable, but seem to include any trait that's largely influenced by genetics.
Are you trying to discuss the finer points of evolution, or merely use another thread to discuss regression?

The advantage to not having kids.

All those years the Bills have shown profitability have been years in which league wide revenue sharing was intact. It allowed the Bills to have the cheapest prices, while still having enough for the cap and profit. With the new CBA Buffalo will no longer qualify for all of the revenue sharing they received in the past. Even worse the salary cap is rising at a rate reflecting the entire league, most of whom qualify for all of the revenue sharing. If we want to remain competitive and meet the demands of the increasing cap we will have to raise prices. Eventually we won't be able to raise prices anymore because the Buffalo economy dictates such. We would either lose profits by overspending or spend less then other teams and try and stay competitive. Either situation isn't exactly enticing for Ralph, and I imagine it's even less enticing for a buyer. These are the real problems that face us over the next 5 to 10 years. We need to continue acknowledging them and get creative in how we can keep our team profitable and competitive in Buffalo.
I thought the revenue sharing percentages were roughly the same. Do you have a link to support this? Not trying to be argumentative, just curious...

I saw this thread and had to throw in my 2 cents.
I have a Wii and a 360, and might eventually get a PS3 when there are actually some reasons to have one (i.e more games).
Right now there is no doubt the 360 is your best bet. The library of games is huge and there are some killer games available.
Steve, feel free to look up games sites like IGN and 1up who will clearly state that the sports games like Madden and NBA07 look better on a 360 than they do on a PS3.
One of the biggest names in game development, Gabe Newell of Valve software (Half-life, Counterstrike, Half-Life 2, Team Fortress) just declared that the PS3 was a flop and a lot of other developers are probably feeling the same way. John Carmack of 'id' (creator of Doom, Quake, etc.) says he prefers developing for the 360. he bottom line is the 360 has more games right now. The 360 has better games right now. And if you read what these devs are saying the 360 will have more and better games in the future because that's the platform they want to work with.
Now as far as reliability goes, I have 2 360's (I know it's overkill, but dammit if I wanna play Phantasy Star Universe and the old lady is playin Viva Pinata, what am I supposed to do?) and neither have had any issue. And even if you do get a broken unit, the warranty and service from MS are good. One of my friends had a unit die almost a year after he got it. He boxed it up and they sent him a new one within a week.

At some point over the next ten years Ralph will most likely not be the owner of the Bills. It's sad, but he's getting older and those are the facts we have to deal with. Whoever it is that takes over will be inheriting a team that is either way under fulfilling the entire cap allotment, or barely reaching it by squeezing out every last possible source of revenue from the Western New York market. The cap won't then just level off, it will only continue to rise, and it will continue rising at a rate much higher then the Bills revenue can or ever will keep up with in the WNY market. No matter what we do now to nickel and dime our way above water something will eventually give, and that most likely happens without Ralph around to keep the Bills in Buffalo.
Buffalo will stay loyal to the Bills and do whatever it takes to keep the team. With the NFL going international Canada seems like our only real hope of keeping the Bills 10 or 15 years down the road. If we can successfully become Canada’s most followed NFL team we have a long term outlook, when right now all we can try and do is fight to keep up with the cap. That’s not a situation many new owners would love to stay in. If this comes at the expense of a couple home games a year its hell of a lot better then the Bills leaving Buffalo, both for fans and the WNY economy.
According to this article in Forbes, if the Bills were to raise revenue by 10% they would be in the top 10 in terms of yearly revenue. We are 13th in operating income before taxes, etc.
edit: oops forgot the link - http://www.forbes.com/lists/results.jhtml?...mp;passKeyword=
If they were to implement my plan of raising ticket prices by $20, that would generate close to $11 million in additional revenue. This would put them between 15 and 16 in terms of revenue generated. Hell, just raising the price of all tickets by $10 would be an additional 5-6 million and would put the bills a few places up on the chart.
These numbers are pretty raw and don't take all factors into account, but it's clear that the Bills can remain at the middle of the pack with some minor cost adjustments.
edit - I know it's 04 info, but it's still relevant

Ever since the new CBA the idea of Buffalo being in trouble isn't for the paranoid. Politicians can talk about sell outs, but sell outs won't save us. We could sell out every game for the next 5 years and it won't save us. As each year passes the gap between what we spend on players and the salary cap will grow. It will continue happening under the rosiest attendance scenario we can come up with. How can we remain competitive under such circumstances? This isn't baseball.
You raise ticket prices. The market will support it. Raise the price of each ticket by 20 bucks. By the time you figure in the preseason games, there is 10 million more in revenue. It's not as if Ralph is going broke.
I agree, revenue sharing needs to implemented in a way that it levels the playing field, but the ticket prices need to come up too.
While sell outs alone won't save the franchise, they will go a long way in helping to keep the team here. That goes for any market, small or large.

I have a better idea......put a winning team on the field, make the playoffs and create a real Super Bowl mentality in WNY!
It has very little to do with nudity, the Falls, Canada or name of stadium and EVERYTHING to do with having the right players and coaches!!
Everything else is
Forgive me for asking, but weren't the Bills playoff contenders and hadn't they been to the superbowl when they were unable to sell out the playoff game against the oilers? It's not as though we have never had blackouts before this season folks.
Although I'm still not sure how moving the team to another country is saving it....
-
Surely, there must be something that you can do.
There is plenty I can do, and don't call me Shirley!..(Thanks for the softball...)
Well, I must have done something right. After another round of polite, but forceful phone calls to anyone at the company who would listen, they approved the estimate. I get a roof that doesn't leak! Hooray!!!
-
We had a similar situation with State Farm when a tree fell on our house and destroyed our custom made kitchen cabinets . The adjuster wanted to settle for $2500 but the lowest estimate was $6100. The jerk would not budge. Unfortunately for him my Wife would not budge either. She hounded him, our agent and several folks in corporate daily for about two weeks. We got our money.
This technique is worth a try if all else fails.
Jim
Sometime I like nothing better than pestering those who deserve it most. Until they find me a licensed contractor who will do the work at their number, I won't relent.
I'm giving the rep at the company until tomorrow to approve the estimate. If I don't hear back from him by noon, I'm gonna escalate things. It's ridiculous I've had to wait this long, but part of that is that it took me over a month to get a reasonable estimate, mostly because everyone was so busy. I started out with roofers, who then said you need a patio guy, the patio guys said you need awning people, and I found 1 awning company willing to do it (I'll give props where they are due.. Kohler wouldn't touch it, said they were too busy... Superior was really good. Came as soon as they could and have offered to step in with the insurance co., as they feel it's a more than legit estimate).
But that being said, I submitted the estimate to my Insuarnce co. on December 8th and still don't know what is going on.
-
Well, i'm not really an expert here, but just thinking out loud. Did the adjuster see the estimate you received? Also, try to get a couple more estimates. It has been my experience some contractors will submit excessively high bids if they do not wish to perform the work. Make sure the adjuster (and your insurance agent) see the bids. Make sure you take reasonable steps to protect the rest of your home from damage while battling this out.
Talk with your agent, or read your policy, and find out how to settle this dispute. Perhaps an independent appraiser could be hired, or the case could go to arbitration. I think this is all outlined in your policy.
And lastly, once this is settled, get out of dodge. This company was very good at taking your money, but a minor claim such as this one should not be causing such heartache. Allstate?
I've been trying to get as many estimates as possible, but going through the entire Erie County Yellow pages, have found 1 contractor willing to work who would provide an estimate. I faxed a copy of the estimate to both the claims rep. at the Ins. Co. as well as showed it to the adjuster when he came to my house for the second appraisal. He couldn't tell me there was anything wrong with the estimate. I asked him if the material or labor cost seemed high, and he said "I'll have to check some things at my office." In other words, he couldn't give me a good response as to why they disagreed with the estimate I had from the contractor.
And no, it's Peerless. I used to have Allstate and was with them for almost 10 years until they cancelled my home insurance without any notice because one of my pine trees had a 3/4 inch branch touching my roof. My agent said she sent me "several emails" about the problem and never heard back from me. The first and only time I heard about it was a letter informing me of their intent to cancel the policy. Needless to say I dumped Allstate and the agent.

I like JP a lot, but I also don't expect him to perform miracles (or even play really well) when he gets his first playoff experience.
Rivers is young and so is LT. They'll be back.

My home has a patio/sunroom that has an aluminum roof that was damaged during our October storm (It was crushed by a tree). I've had roofers and awning companines come out to give me estmiates, and most said it was a job they couldn't do, but they all agreed the roof needed to be replaced. I finally got an estimate of $2700 which was a lot more that the insurance co's estimate of $330 (which I knew was BS to begin with... 330 to remove and replace a 16 x 10 metal roof? gimme a break).
At any rate their adjuster has been out twice, but the Ins Co. is draggin their feet on approving the estimate. I keep telling them "Find me someone who will fix the roof at your price" and they have no response to that. In the meantime, I have a leaky roof that is letting water and moisture into my sun room and making matters worse cause these jerks are dragging their feet.
Does anyone know what my legal rights are with regard to the Ins Co. approving/denying a claim and what the time frame is?
Help greatly appreciated!

Did one representative from either party bring this up on the congressional floor? One would have to think that it would have been harder to pull this off if anyone at all had raised this issue, no?
Why would they? Isn't there some saying about glass houses?

Below minimum wage? Zero.
Zero that are legal citizens of this country who don't have multiple layers of government bureaucracy to complain to if that were ever the case for even five minutes.
Below that proposed minimum wage? Not many if the total is only 500k
I said below the PROPOSED minimum wage, not the CURRENT minimum wage. The point is, the post I was referring to made it seem as those the only people that would benefit from the minimum wage increase were those making the minimum wage, which is not true. Anyone making below the proposed minimum wage would benefit. I'm pretty sure there are more than 500k of those people.

You guys really should get your priorities straight about what constitutes a good guy and bad guy. Willis, a single guy, has three kids with three different mothers. Maybe not the smartest move, or moral compass. Illegal? No. Hurt anyone? Doesn't seem to. None of them seem to have any ill will toward him at all. In fact, just the opposite. They all seem to say he is taking care of his responsibilities. And I'm sure the fact that he is a fun guy, and famous football player with a million dollar contract had zero to do with these women having sex with him and making sure safe sex was involved. But I'm sure all you churchgoers never do anything immoral.
I wouldn't call him a bad human being, just a dumba$$. Yeah he pays his child support, but the problem I have with the situation is that he seems to not learn much from these life lessons. I dunno, maybe I'm way off and this is what he thinks is the right way to do things. But it just reeks of stupidity and being irresponsible to me. I mean get a rubber for crying out loud. I'm willing to bet he didn't intend to father those kids, and probably wishes he didn't. I used to go to McDonalds every spring spring and get a shamrock shake. And every single year after about four pulls on the straw (only one of which would yield any of the shake) I'd throw it out and say to myself "Man, those suck. Im never getting one again". Finnaly though, I learned my lesson and never bought another one. Or McDonalds cancelled them. I can't recall. Anyway, the point is it made me a dumb$$. And when you do something like that with human beings, that I'm sure is hitting you hard in the wallet, you are really a duma$$.
Hate him as a player if you want, although he is very good and I guarantee you the Bills coaches think so, and the rest of the league thinks so. You hear it all the time. The guy keeps in great shape, works his ass off year round, plays hard, plays hurt all the time, knows the playbook, doesn't miss practice or assignments. His teammates seem to like him a lot. I don't know of him breaking the law, I don't know of anyone that doesn't like him as a person, I have never heard anyone say anything bad about him at all, except you guys. There are a ton of players on this team and in this league who are slimeballs, mean to fans and kids and their wives and girlfriends and teammates and coaches. It ain't Willis as far as I know.I can't argue with that.
Does he underachieve? Probably. But it is not a lack of effort. Is he an academic All-American? Hardly. Has he ever threatened to sit out? Has he ever done anything to a teammate? Has he ever said anything against a coach or teammate or fan? He even was good friends with Travis, according to him and Travis, and said they used to come over to each other's pads to play video games. This is the one thing that gets me. I don't think for a second that Willis underchieves. I really don't. I think he gives his all, ever game, just like 99% of the league does. It's just too competitve for anyone to rest on their laurels and get away with it for very long.
He said he thought he was the best running back in the league. Guess what? He was honest. There are 20-30 RBs in this league that think they're the best RB in the league and they would be lying to you if they said no when asked by a reporter. But you guys would rather hear a lie than a guy without a filter on his feelings. Frankly, I want Willis to think he's the best running back in the league. I want JP to think he's the best QB and Lee Evans to think he's the best WR and Jason Peters to think he's the best LT.No offense, but when talking about LT and Willis, stats aren't the only category that don't match up well. LT is a class act, to the point that the media is enamored with the guy. Perhaps it's due in part to the fact that many guys who perform at such a high lever can be jerks, and the press is just pleasantly surprised at his demeanor. The point is, I have heard LT asked similar questions, and his responses to to show humility rather than bravado. Again, you would be right in saying it doesn't make Willis bad, but it's another facet of his character that rubs me the wrong way. He doesn't have to lie, but he could use a heavy dose of tact.
It's a legitimate criticism to say that he isn't what we hoped he'd become by now. He's not. It's a legitimate criticism to say he dances too much, and should probably hit the hole harder more often. It's a legitimate opinion to say he's an average back at best, although that is simply an opinion. But to hate on Willis as a man or teammate or guy is just plain ignorant. More ignorant than you think he is.Why is wanting him to be replaced "hating" on him? Hell, I used to play Halo 2 with him, I don't hate him. As fans, we feel like the team is a representation or extension of ourselves. Yeah, it's kinda pitiful, but that's what a lot of fans do. So why is it a surprise that many fans don't want a dumba$$ who isn't putting up good numbers? I can take one or the other, but not both. When Josh Reed was in a rut, I still wanted him on the team because he was a total class act all the way. He is a really nice guy, so there is something positive about his presence for me as a fan. Then you have someone like TO (no, Willis is nowhere near TO on the extreme end of the retard scale) who fans will tolerate because he at least posts good numbers.

Just wanted to say hello from my Wii's internet browser!!!

Not enough for this to be THE issue Congress concerns itself with and thumps its chest over, thats fer sure.
But going for the low hanging fruit those first few days in office seems to be the norm. Makes those new guys and gals look like they are really....ya...know.....going to DO SOMETHING, DAMMIT!!!!!
Talk to me in a month when Pelosi cuts a session short for nothing more than so she can jet back to San Fran in time to get up to Lodi and score some good Zin.
How 'bout I talk to you now after they already cut out to watch college football?

What kind of connection are you using? I don't think component can handle 1080p. You may need the VGA cable (since there is no HDMI option).
