1. Always use the "Fat" comeback on women,,even if they are a 100 lbs, it still disturbs them deeply..

    663205

Like I mentioned with the spitting thing (which I know was a joke) I wasn't looking to demean the waitress. I didn't lose my temper (visibly anyway). I just felt the managment should know that their wait staff was doing such things.

I'm not sure if the yahoo article on treatment of wait staff was for my benefit, but this was hardly akin to having sorbet spilled on a dress. One is an accident, the other is unprofessional conduct, aimed at a paying customer. In a sense the article has no bearing on this particular situation.

  2. But, he was seriously offended. People might now make fun of fat people. FAT PEOPLE! By God.

    yall?

Get a grip. Why do you think restaraunt managers blow people off?

    663115

I was using fat people as an example of sorts, not trying to imply that it was ok. I just figured that everyone at some point in time could relate to that because most people have probably had a laugh at an overweight persons expense. Most people would not do it right in front of that person though, as it is pretty rude. Having worked in a number of restaurants, I've heard plent of jokes about the fat lady who orders everything on the menu and then gets a diet coke. Not a nice thing to say, but I also never heard the jokes made in the dining room or within earshot of said customer.

I'm sure the manager blew me off for a few reasons. First, admitting that your staff did something wrong might require him to take some sort of action (comp'd meal or chastising the waitress). Secondly it would mean that he had to take the word of an irate customer over his staff, which is not always a good thing.

I would never spit on the waitress or do anything that would bring me down to the same level, so I did the only thing I could.

I would like to give credit where crdit is due though. After leaving Danny's we went to Adam's Rib. When we got there they said we would have to wait for a while for a table, which was no big deal. But the owner saw me in a brace, came up and said he was in one for a while, and understood what a pain (in the neck? ) they are to deal with. He did everything he could to get me seated immediately. The food and service were impecable, and the owner came by the table twice to make sure I was comfortable. Now, I wasn't asking for any special treatment, but this guy went out of his way to ensure my comfort and a good dining experience, so I figured I should give Adam's Rib props for a job well done.

  3. The doctor, who is an ear, nose, throat specialist, said that I would be wearing a splint for 5 days.  A splint?  Should I just walk around with a paper bag on my head?  I'll look like the love child of the Terminator and the Phantom of the Opera.

    661496

H could be talking about an internal splint. I had a similar surgery two years ago to remove a tumor in my sinus as well as repair a badly deviated septum. The splints were like 2 little (actually they were f'n huge. When he removed them it reminded me of total recall) plastic surfboards that came out about a week after the doctor removed the packing. Once they came out everything felt fine.

I can't say just how close what you are having was to my surgery, but I had it on a friday, and was at a Bills preseason game on sunday.

    Good luck!

  4. I had a cervical disk fusion operation a few weeks ago which requires that I wear a hard cervical collar for a few weeks. About 2 weeks after I had the surgery, I was mobile enough to go out to dinner with my parents. We went to Danny's and asked for a table, and told the wait was about 20 minutes, so we elected to wait at the bar.

While I was having my first beer, I noticed a couple of waitresses chuckling as one was putting on a display that was clearly mocking the way I had to drink. She was pretending to hold a drink to her face and tilt her whole uppoer body back, whie not bending her neck, which was exactly what I had been doing. I was a little put off, but figured I could have misinterpreted what she was doing, and just hoped I didn't get her as a waitress in the fear I'd be tempted to leave her a bad tip undeservingly.

As I got my second drink, I spotted the same waitress again, this time with a new crowd at the waitress station, making the same motion and carrying on, but this time she went so far as to point directly at me (I suppose it could have been the Quick Draw screen behind me, but I have never seen a video keno machine with a bad neck and a drink). In otherwords, what she was doing was unmistakeable.

I got pretty pissed this time. I abruptly told my family that we were leaving (their backs had been to the waitress station) and on my way out I walked up to the waitress and said "What, do you think I'm blind too?" and judging from her sheepesh reaction she knew exactly to what I was refering.

On my way out, I decided that I'd go back in and explain to the manager or owner why his establishment was losing my business. He brushed me off saying none of his professional staff would do such a thing and I was clearly some kind of twit.

This made me begin to wonder if it had been an older person or someone with a real disabilty, would this lady still have acted the same? Was I overreacting or are this waitress and her cohorts just a bunch of insensitive jackasses? Have any of you ever made fun of a fat person whie you were at work? Would you do it in plain sight of your target?

  5. If by as good as gone you mean: not so much.

    Then yeah, I guess you're right.  ;)

But to answer your question, I would love it! My ideal situation would be if Nate refused to sign that we "tagged n' traded" him for a late-1st and then took the money we were going to give to him and gave it to Ty Law.

There will be people who will say, "oh yeah, like we need another aging DB". But the fact of the matter is, he's still one of the top DB's in the league. I like the idea of reuniting him with Milloy. It could spark them both.

    604629

Oh, I just wanted to bump this to say I told you so.

Now I'll tell you how I knew. Milloy (as well as Willis and Joe Burns) is on my Xbox Live friends list. Around January, Lawyer changed his logo from the Bills logo to a standard NFL logo. Burn and Willis kept theirs the same. I would presume that Levy and co. probably gave him advance warning that he was off the team.

  6. I've done it more than once over a few issues this last month alone.

    645524

I rarely do, but this is just madness. Our elected officials are to worried about looking racist and losing votes, and not worried about the health and well being of our nation. It's time to say enough. I just emailed every one of my contacts with Schumer's and Hillary's contact info.

If you folks want to be heard, here are the links. It only takes a few minutes:

  7. How many of you are willing to go to a counter protest? How many of you have written your senators? (I emailed Chuck and Billary today... why not do the same?)

Bitching on an internet forum is fun, but unless you speak up, you will not be heard.

  8. Why not provide an armored exo-skeleton to every soldier? We can do that, right?

Why did no one complain that Jeeps and Deuce's in WW2 didn't have enough armor? I'm pretty sure that even an MP42 could have torn up a Willy in a few seconds. Because it's war, that's why. You can't protect every single soldier without compromising your goals and becoming completely ineffective.

Yes Scraps, we know you are not in favor of the war or the current administration. What you have also demonstrated is a lack of knowledge on the subject matter. This is essentially an non issue to most of the troops, and has been blown wildly out of proportion by the media. The notion that the "right wing" is actually in favor of making a warzone less safe is preposterous, and is nothing more than a fabrication.

  9. Moulds is a great leader of men. I am thinking that were it not for a leader like him, the Bills might have players sulking, being insubordinate, and getting suspended.

Why even bring up a pay cut? Levy should lock him up long term.

    617114

    You beat me to it.

He demonstrated last season that leadership, by far, is not his best attribute. My prediction is that he leaves, goes to another team as a #1 receiver, but is out-played by someone else, and will be relegated to second by the end of the season.

But hey, why should you listen to an idiot like me, who halfway through typing this post realized that he has been wearing his Battlefield 2 communicator headset all morning for absolutely no reason.

  10. For f*cks sake not again.

Is it necesary to waste so much time flaming someone for making a prediction on a message board?

So what if he is lying through his teeth or not.

Why people get so worked up is beyond me. How often does ESPN or SI report that their sources within such-and-such state 'X' and then a week later the reality is revealed as 'Y'?

They are the supposed professionals, and through advertising, we pay for their services (in a roundabout way). Does everyone flip out when they f up?

  11. as a matter of fact, badolbilz was making the same argument in april 2002. i remember him doing it. the man knows of what he speaks.

    611874

I wasn't referring to anyone specificaly. My original point through all of this is that the majority of writers, pundits, fans, etc., thought MW was a good pick at number 4.

  12. Your response is what I call "the insanity plea".

Everyone has their own way of dealing with defeat.  Like for instance, Pyrite Gal, who says "she" was wrong, but for ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, when in reality the reasons were not well founded and are actually the reason "she" was on the wrong side of the argument to begin with.

    611837

I'd like to see the posts from Apr 02, to see where everyone stood on our picks at the time...

It's real easy to say something was a good or bad decision in retrospect.

  13. The point YOU are missing is that the Bills drafted him to play RT.  They had already signed Broncos LT Trey Teague and he and Jennings were immediately put to duel with the loser being moved to center.  Mike Williams was not in the mix.

So by your logic drafting a RT made no sense and left tackle was locked up, which would mean no McKinney either.

Tell me again why you are trolling in the Williams vs. McKinney thread? :D

  14. Bill was right.  You are talking about something completely different.  RT is not a position drafted top 5.  The lesson here is don't get paralysis by analysis.  On the field, McKinnie was clearly the better player than Williams.  McKinnie was a very high profile player, he dominated everyone including Dwight Freeney in a much publicized matchup.  Basically, people spent a lot of time deciding why NOT to take McKinnie and Mike Williams was the beneficiary.  Williams really was a postseason climber, his gains had nothing to do with what he did on the field.

    611086

No, you are both missing the point. The title of the thread is "Mike Williams or McKinnie". Most draft analysts said that Williams was a better pick and that he could play RT or LT due to his size, speed, and athletic ability. That was my point which seems to have eluded you both. I'm not saying I liked the pick, that in retrospect it was a good pick, or anything of the sort.

He was supposed to be the better football player. He was not. Not by a longshot. This is what makes him a bust. If he had not been considered the better player, it would have merely been a stupid pick.

  15. Sorry, but you are just wrong. Here is a history of all Offensive Tackles that have been drafted in the last several decades. Can you find one who was drafted in the top 5 as a RT? I cannot.

John Hannah was drafted in the top 5 as a Guard way back when. He was the only non-LT offensive lineman that I can find who was a top 5 pick.

TD had a tendency to get "cute" in the first round (or with his first selection of a draft) during his stay in Buffalo. He passed on Steinbach to wait a year for MaGahee. He passed on McKinnie (LT) to go with Fat Mike. He took Little Richard Parrish while both lines were crying out for help. He gave away the store for JP, then handed him the job based on nothing.

The more I think about it, getting canned in Pitt. must have really screwed with his head, and left him determined to "out-smart" the football world. Too bad, because he was a truly good football man.

I wonder how he feels now after getting fired in Buff and watching Pitt win it all.

    610340

Nope. You have it wrong. Most scouts, media, and fans had Williams going above McKinney. My point was that TD did not do something that seemed crazy or stupid at the time. It's what makes Williams a bust. Everyone thought he was a better pick than McKinney.

    And my favorite:

    http://www.bootlegsports.com/cgi-bin/bs3co...file=nfl-draftw

Most likely to live up to expectations - Mike Williams, OT, Texas - Williams saw his stock rise higher than Bryant "Mount" McKinnie in the weeks leading up to the draft and rightfully so. He can play on either side of the line and is polished enough to step in and start for Buffalo. If there's such thing as a nimble 375 pounder, than Williams is it. Buffalo is expecting Williams to anchor their line next season, and with his excellent ability against the pass and the run, Williams will no doubt be up to the task.

I'm sure I could find more mock drafts, and maybe even a few with McKinney going higher, but the point is that most had Williams going higher. Combine that with McKinney being kind of a jerk, and TD's initial decision didn't look bad.

(Please don't think of me as some TD apologist, I'm glad he is gone. But just because he was a jerk didn't mean he should have been able to see into the future and predict that the guy viewed as the best lineman in the 2002 draft would turn out to be a lazy SOB.)

  16. Are you guys forgetting that not only TD, but most of the sporting media thought Williams was a safer pick over Mckinney, do to attitude issues? And when McKinney held out on the Vikes, it sure did look like ol' TD made the smart move. Obviously in retrospect it wasn't, but everyone here is acting like TD went against conventional wisdom by drafting big Mike, when that was not the case.

  17. Well...they CAN carry corrosive nerve gas...but only short distances before the wings fall off.  The gas IS corrosive, after all.  I'd be more worried about China's Antarctic clown-based antisattelite laser program.

(On a serious note, the Russians named the SU-25 the "Shturmovik", which in one word says FAR more about its capabilities and usage than I'd ever bother posting in this !@#$ing nursery school...)

    607055

Huh? The Shturmovik is the IL-2, a WW2 era ground attack plane. The SU-25 is the "Frogfoot".

    Scary name indeed...
