This isn't baseball.  The baseball equivalent is if the road team scores in the top of the 11th, the game ends.  In baseball the home team still gets the bottom of the 11th, in football the team that defers doesn't get a 2nd chance if the receiving team scores on the 2nd possession.  Huge difference between baseball & the NFL.

Yeah. The switch to sudden death is after the 1st inning. 😆

How stupid.  Game is predicated on an opening coin toss and a possible OT coin toss... 😕

Correction okay after the 10th inning. Still dumb.

  2. Just now, Chaos said:

The college rules keep alternating possessions. It never converts to sudden death. College rules are irrelevant due to that difference.

Yup. That's why the rule change in NFL achieved nothing.

Sudden death is an old school concept.  Back in day, games were slugfest. Low scoring. Lots ended in ties. Even OT could end in ties. How many games really go to OT anyway and end in ties. Few.

Just play it out like basketball. The games will end. No new coin toss.

  3. In a way... It's like baseball with last ups... BUT twist is, it flip flops to sudden death after the first inning. 😆

So what's the point of all this? Either continue to match or lose... Turnovers can still end games... OR just go back to damn coin flip.

Same result.  In Bills-Chiefs game that precipitated this rule change,  Even if Josh & Bills score, Chiefs & Mahomes is in position with 3rd up and sudden death. Able to walk-off.  What's the point?

Just go to the college rules.

  4. Dude or Dudette!

McD is the only one that can beat KC that isn't named: Zac Taylor.

    ...Bad. BAD things will happen!

Can we give TreDave and Dion back for our 2017 #10 pick that KC got. 😆

I totally disagree with this opinion. Him being as good as he is, to me, means he has an obligation to behave properly. Instead he acts like a petulant child.

After football and when swift dumps him he is going to have a challenging life if he doesn’t change his attitude.

😆... That's NOT the way the world works Sparky... You haven't been paying attention.  You fall off the hay wagon yesterday?

    😜

OR him and Swift can live happily ever after! 😆 Till they are 98.

  6. Already surpassed Brady.  Has Mahomes ever cheated?

    Correction: Caught cheating.

I don't disagree with that but the QBs in the AFC are better than the QBs in the AFC when Brady played. Plus I think the division will be more difficult than what the AFC East provided Brady especially with Harbaugh in the mix. The AFC is just absolutely stacked with talent and it's going to be tough to come out of that conference year in and year out: Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Herbert, Stroud, Lamar, Richardson and to a lesser degree Tua and Lawrence. I mean half the teams in the conference have a good QB and 5 have elite (Bills, Chiefs, Bengals, Texans and Ravens).

The thing is Mahomes probably has 12 years to win 4 to catch Brady. I doubt he'll have the longevity that Brady had and I doubt without his mobility he'll be as good as he is now (same with Allen and that's especially true with Lamar; imo once Lamar doesn't have elite speed he'll be cooked). Brady really only had Manning and Big Ben in the AFC. By the time won his second Superbowl to the time he left New England the only 4 QBs that were in the Superbowl on the AFC side were Brady, Manning, Big Ben and Flacco. Hell even since that second SB you can add only Mahomes and Burrow. 21 years and only 6 QB made it. 19 years and only 4 QBs.

Ain't the salary cap wonderful!  It was supposed to make league more competitive.

    Just get a generational QB.

FWIW... MLB had more diverse list of champions last 30 years than the capped games. Just saying.

  7.

Always best to take "last ups." You gain more information on what you need to win. They let KC walk them off. Inexcusable given they had coin toss.

You'd think a home team in baseball would say: "Oh no, you're the visitor, you go last." LoL...

Maybe Shanahan was just being polite. 😆

I really hope he knew how the OT rules in the playoffs differed from regular season. Even if 1st OT quarter ended, it just goes to OT quarter #2 and so on!

Why do you think Vinovich stated emphatically: "This is like the start of a new game."

    Shanahan is an idiot.  😆

And generally, there’s a lot more factors at play that says the teams wouldn’t get there. A lot more outlets for the game to go another way if you will. Kicking off has more advantages per the first two (guaranteed) possessions.

    Exactly.

  9. 2 minutes ago, Brand J said:

That’s why I’d kick off. If your defense gets a stop, ANY stop that first possession, all you need is a FG to win. If they can’t get a stop, you get 4 downs to match. The ONLY advantage the receiving team has is the third possession, assuming both teams scored equally on their touches.

Yup! And equally means SF really needs to score a TD first.

Always take last ups in this situation with the new rules.

Sure. But the 49ers didn't lose because they couldn't force a punt on 4th and 1 from the Chiefs 34 yard line. The 49ers literally could have let the Chiefs march all the way down the field and then held them to a FG inside the red zone. They couldn't do that, and that is why they lost.

They lost because they only scored 3. 😆

Why is he an idiot? That's exactly why you receive first is to get the third possession. The third possession is sudden death rules. It didn't work out in this scenario but it's easy to see it working out in other scenario's where both teams punt first possessions or both teams match scores.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a nothing burger. There are advantages to both receiving or kicking. What if the 49ers kicked and it was the Chiefs that ended up winning on the third possession with a FG? Would the same people be criticizing Shanahan?

Score every time, does not mean score a TD every time. You would think your defense would hold them to a FG. Afterall, this was a 19-19 game at the end of regulation. Not a 31-31 game.

    From the article:

"...By choosing to receive rather than kick, Shanahan allowed the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes to get the ball with more information to factor into their play-calling. It also meant less data for him.

When San Francisco drove down the field, it did not know that Kansas City would eventually score a touchdown. It’s why Shanahan said he “never thought about” going for it on fourth-and-4. Instead the Niners kicked a field goal.

That meant Kansas City knew it needed to score and would never consider punting as an option.

As such, when the Chiefs faced fourth-and-1 from their own 34-yard line, they went for it. Had that same scenario played out on the first drive of overtime, Kansas City would have almost assuredly punted and allowed San Francisco to win it with a field goal.  ..."

Face it. Idiot offensive nepobaby whizkid that also blew 28-3 as O coordinator.  What a schmo...

I don't feel so bad as a Bills fan.

  12. Did Shanahan know the rules for playoffs? He wanted ball third? 😆

    What an idiot:

Then receive is still maybe right call. If the Chiefs are going to score every possession, then try and beat them to the punch on the third possession. But you got to hope to either score a TD on your first possession or hold them to a FG on their first possession.

Then why kick the FG if you think Mahomes & Chiefs will score every time.

He screwed up royally the advantage that was won with coin toss!

  13. "The carpenter came home one day...

A carpenter came home one day only to discover his wife in bed with another man.

In a total rage, he dragged the naked man down the stairs to the garage and put his penis in a vice.

He then secured it tightly and removed the handle.
Next he picked up a hacksaw.

The terrified man, screamed, "Stop! Stop! You're not going to cut it off are you?"

The man, with a gleam of revenge in his eye, said, "Nope. You are. I'm going to set the garage on fire." "

You have a good plan in place! We always aim for a refund, but we were surprised to find that some behind the scenes stuff caused us to owe big this year. As much as I hate taxes, it’s a good problem to have I suppose. I’m in less of a hurry than usual.

Ever since 2017 they withhold less from my wife. I just set it aside throughout the year and pay on 4/15...

Anyway, you can do your taxes earlier and delay the payment till the 15th. 😉  Set up an EFT from where ever the payment will be.
