  1. And what core values are those? I don't label myself as a progressive really. But, I am a huge backer of a single payer health care system. Polling actually showed people liked the idea of the government competing with the private sector on health care.
  2. I'm not saying she should or shouldn't. I was just wondering. I don't care whether she gets taxed or not. I think there is an argument for both sides.
  3. Lame response IMO.
  4. I'm not sure if this sarcasm or you think she should pay taxes on it?
  5. I don't think actual progressives wanted anything like the bill we got. Just my opinion. For me, it was public option or bust. Maybe someday, we'll get that single payer...
  6. And tons of people lose their coverage and dropped and people start to rethink the whole Obamacare thing. That being overturned isn't as big as a political win as you think it is.
  7. Settle down children. I saw the Pew poll out today with Obama up 50-46. I didn't realize he was up by a bigger margin last month. While we are on the topic of the election, anyone up for some sig/avatar bets on the election? Or should I create another thread to ask. Step up to the plate!
  8. And Obama's poll numbers are getting better. Quite odd.
  9. Haha, good call. It's in a form of gift from multiple contributors. I don't even know if it is taxable? If 40,000 people gave someone $10 separately, would it be taxed? (I really should be in favor of taxing the money though, especially with my views on things such as estate taxes. )
  10. Couldn't going too long before bashing Obama. I signed that petition already though...
  11. So far, $400,000 has been raised for Karen Klein! Just crazy... My link
  12. Pretty solid "zinger" actually.
  13. I'm just picturing Chris Farley in Billy Madison as the bus driver.
  14. Not a fan of reality are we? My post in no way a guilt trip. It was pure numbers. Real jobs were cut here. This is not about public vs. private sector. Well, actually for some of you it is. You can't stand people working in the public sector. This is about job growth across the board. Even if the public growth is temporary, it can have a benefit on the private sector to get to where we need to be.
  15. Drop the textbooks...blah blah. When there is 1.4 million less jobs than there normally would be, that is a problem. That is a huge loss of demand for the private sector which could lead to more jobs....in the private sector! Private investment is no where close to being crowded out. These extra jobs would do nothing but benefit the struggling economy. Combine these hirings with some incentives and deregulation for some small businesses and we could see a real recovery.
  16. How awesome is this? Good to see we still some great people in the world who want to give back. The internet is an amazing thing. Reddit Users Raise $60k to send bus monitor on vacation
  17. If public sector growth grew like it normally would following a recession, we would have an extra 1.4 million jobs in the country and unemployment would be below 7%. That's not taking into account the economic impact each job has the public sector. And the top 3 positions in the public sector: 1. Teachers 2. Police 3. Firefighters
  18. I found it a little weird that he titled this OP-ED what he did considering he didn't talk about government SPENDING in the entire thing. He talked about deficits which became so huge because of a decrease in tax REVENUES! Graph of Expenditures vs. Receipts These here are just terrible assumptions: How does this guy have a job writing for Forbes?
  19. Clearly, Obama understood that Barrett had no shot like the rest of us. It would have been a waste of time for him and actually would have hurt his support in that state. Remember, exit polls showed him beating Romney there.
  20. City Honors blows... All about Hutch Tech baby! GO ENGINEERS!
  21. I guess that's what he is saying. But to say black people moving into neighborhood suddenly turns your community into the east side is ludicrous.
  22. No surprise here. A lot of racists in South Buffalo. One of many reasons I stay away from there. I don't even feel like it's part of the same city. Here is the actual interview: Racist Man from Buffalo!
  23. I didn't click the link. Thought you posted it all. I like IBD, used to have a subscription. This recession is pretty unique however and there were a lot of factors that brought on the crisis. Housing, credit, skyhrocketing unemployment, etc. A lot of jobs that were lost are never coming back. The article points out that robust growth was predicted after 2009. This wasn't just by the administration either. I'm sure those on the right will chalk it up solely to Obama's policies which is just outrageous but go ahead. Obviously, we are in a very unique situation where employment may be a problem for years to come.
  24. We can pretend that it wasn't very bad if you'd like...
