I apologize, I shouldn't have posted that specifically about Mayfield, as I don't know him personally. I was watching football with my 8 year old daughter when they played the crotch grabbing clip, and I had to explain about sportsmanship, class, and maturity...Not the image of athletics I want my kids to have. Anyway, my bad.

The comparison was meant to be more of why Mayfield is considered franchise material? I have read he has an average arm, below average height, and has had some questionable off the field issues.  Yes he had great stats, but he played in the Big 12 where it seems they throw it every down...he never got his team to the big show.

AJ had great stats, even when playing in a ball control offense, has the same fire and leadership, and won 2 championships. Arm strength is similar, leadership is similar, AJ is bigger, has NFL playoff experience (should have gotten a win, thanks Bungles), yet he is considered a backup...I just don't get it, but again I am admittedly ignorant to the politics and economics of the NFL and the seemingly never ending search for a "franchise" quarterback (Johnny Manziel, anyone?)

Loved AJ when he came out of college. Would have snapped him up in the 3rd or 4th round in a heartbeat.

Why do people think guys like Mayfield are franchise material and Aj is not? Because people get caught up in the "flash" and highlight reels. (See Johnny Football)

With AJ, he played at Bama, that actually hurts him. People consider him a system guy, and cannot possibly be that good.

Looking forward to see him play.

    Oh, yeah. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!

Cannot wait for A Game. Hoping to see Tua grab the starting spot.

I know the NCAA wants schools to self report violations, but every time I read something like this, I ask myself what's the incentive for the school.

IIRC, there was a study done a few years that showed schools that self reported got bigger penalties than schools that lawyered up after the NCAA came sniffing around.

Kirby needs to win a Nat’l Championship in the next 3 years or people will be thinking he can’t coach up talent recruited.

This was Sabans worse recruiting class since being at Bama. That was the point of my post.

No doubt Saban can win with new coaches at different positions. I think though the massive turnover the last 2 seasons is impacting the talent being brought  on campus.

    No, it was not.

2007 was the worst. In 2009, Saban won the NC.

2018 is his smallest class, which impacts the final rankings.

Will the turnover the past 2 years have an impact? Sure it will. The beginning of the end? This where I have to .

I have heard this song and dance before.

In 2013, Auburn won the SEC and went on to lose the NC.

Afterwards, I had to hear how Gus Malzahn was going dominate the SEC and own Saban.

Since then, Gus is 1-3 vs Saban, and with 1 SECCG appearance where he got curb stomped in a rematch with UGA.

In 2015, after losing to Ole Miss, I heard how Bama's dominance was over. The demise of Saban has begun.

3 straight NC appearances and 2 titles later ...

Saban has proven he can adapt and develop talent he does land, regardless of the coaches he has on staff.

That was my point. And as you pointed out, Kirby still has yet to prove that.

Besides, you think Bama will continue to have the turnover it has had the past 2 years?

You better hope not. That means Bama is on top or near the top, and once again, teams are looking to pluck from the best.

UGA just set a record for the most Five Star recruits with this last class. I am the first to say Kirby Smart now needs to turn that into a National Championship.

    And if he doesn't?

I am wondering if this could this be the beginning of the end for Coach Saban?  The loss of all the assistant coaches might be taking its toll where it counts the most, finding talent and getting them on campus.

Oh, please. Why is it after some perceived Alabama "setback", people start yammering about the demise of Saban and Bama.

It's not like Bama is suddenly scraping the bottom of the barrel in recruiting.

Saban has 6 NC across 2 different programs with 3 different DC and at least 5 different OC. IMO, the loss of assistant coaches might have an impact, but I don't think it's going to be as bad as you hope.

I don't like that PI is a subjective thing.   A little pushing and shoving is okay but a lot gets you a flag.   The ref's judgment makes all the difference.

They need it make it more black and white.   Any non-incidental contact before the ball on either player should be a penalty.

How does that make it less subjective? It's still up to the human official to determine who made the contact.

You listed how it is a fix. UCF beat everyone put in front of them, and the team that beat both Alabama and Georgia and never had an opportunity due to human judgments.

It is completely a rigged system inside and out filled with human biases and at no point relying upon a standardized system with a methodology that determines who gets in. It's a joke.

I did not list how it was fixed. I listed how 3 different groups came to the same conclusion.

So unless you can supply some kind of proof of collaboration among the 3 groups so they all produced the same rankings, it's not "fixed" or "rigged".

As for Auburn, the last time I looked, got stomped by UGA in the SECCG.

There are 128 teams across 10 divisions plus independents. How do you standardized that? Do you block the independents from playoff eligibility? If the independents are allowed to play, what methodology or test is used to make that determination?

They rig it every year in favor of the big name, southeast teams because they want the highest ratings.  But over time that may come  to harm the sport.

p.s.  Congrats to the undefeated national champion UCF Knights.

What is there to fix? Before the post season, the CFB Playoff rankings, the AP rankings, and the coaches poll rankings all had the same 4 teams.

Yes, congrats to the undefeated UCF Participation National Champions.

He better be. Lane said Tua was leaving if he didn't get the job:

Eh, I am always skeptical of what Kiffin says. He will say and do things just to cause controversy and chaos.

That said, I do not think he was totally wrong. Saban had 2 QB's transfer on him after Hurts won the starting gig last year, so it was a real possibility.

I do think Tua would have transferred if he thought he had no chance for an open QB challenge in the spring.

I have to admit at halftime I had little to no hope. Felt like I was watching a Bills game.

I thought this was the worst game I have ever seen Bama play and also Hurts is the worst QB I have ever seen.

Then I thought "Hey its Saban, he will make some halftime adjustment and Bama will be a different team in the 2nd half"

    I was right

1st half was rough. But what I have learned about Saban during his tenure: Never, EVER, under estimate Saban.

He might not always win, but I do not think there is anybody better at finding ways to win.

He's played one half of college ball and made one good pass. He ain't going anywhere....yet.

I agree, Tau is not going anywhere yet. Much to the delight of Bama fans every where.

What you saw was a taste of Tau. He has done more than play "one half of college ball and made one good pass".

Saban has no problem in letting his backups get playing time as a game and the season progresses. At least twice during the regular season, Tau has played the second half in ball games. And he has been dynamic, and a play maker every time.

Don't take my word for it, here is a LSU faithful describing one of Tau's play:

I don’t think I’d disagree with any. In fact pretty close to my take.

Not sure Sammy’s ability to handle complex schemes, but that’s simply an unknown not a disagreement.

I think it's more known than unknown.

Back in October/November, Watkins did an interview with USA today, and he admitted he is still struggling with reading defensive coverages.

Just recently, he admitted Goff, at times, had to explain to him, in the huddle, some of the offensive concepts of a called play.

This is not a good look for a 4th year WR. If he's still struggling with the mental part of the game, his only asset is his speed = Decoy ability.

So, the guy is a partisan OSU fan.  Who cares?  The TN search process was a dumpster fire but they still ended up with a quality hire.  Only time will tell if this is a truth.

The writer needs to get a grip:

    Quote

... but a heartfelt thank you is owed to Tennessee. He's better than Pruitt and every coach Pruitt will hire to lead Tennessee to possible bowl eligibility, and Ohio State will have him running its defense a little while longer.

    Last time I looked:

Pruitt is coaching in the CFP. Schiano - Not.

Pruitt has 3 NC rings, 2 with Bama as a position coach, and 1 with FSU as a DC. Schiano - None.

Pruitt is considered one of the best recruiters in the country.

I also find it ironic the writer took a shot a Pruitt for coaching HS ball as a DC while Sciano was coaching Rutgers (Rutgers!) to an 11-2 record. Somebody needs to remind him where OSU found Schiano. (Hint: It wasn't at the NFL or collegiate level).
