How? It's the most exciting live sporting event I have ever attended and I've been to them all
To each their own.
I can't stand hockey. I quit trying to watch it decades ago.
The officiating was joke, some of the rules were just stupid, and just the overall construct/behavior.

Vancouver won 15-10, bring it on...they get to make a long trip this week.
This is going to be a scary set of games.
CDB has been playing great and Vancouver hasn't lost a game since acquiring him.
IMO, this series is really the championship game.
I don't see the winner of Sask/Halifax beating either the Bandits or the Warriors in the finals.

...and it's completely by accident.
It was not their intention but the NIL and the transfer portal have done something that college football desperately needed - they have levelled the playing field and increased the competitiveness. Why would a 5 star recruit sit as a backup at Alabama or Ohio State for 2 years behind another 5 star who is going to the NFL waiting for their chance to start and make their own case to go to the NFL? Instead they can transfer, go to what traditionally was more of a 2nd tier programme, start and get an NIL deal commensurate with being a star at that school.
Um, no.
The present state of NIL and the transfer portal is a s**tfest.
It's unsustainable.
Everybody is still trying to feel their way through.
Once the dust settles, the divide between the haves and have nots will increase.
Years ago (early/mid 2000s?, before the portal and NIL) a story came out how some 4 and 5 star recruits were choosing to go play at the "2nd tier schools" because they could start from the time they stepped on campus instead of sitting on the bench behind some other player for a couple years.
Turns out, being the starter for 1-2 years at the bigger school got more exposure than being the starter at a lower tier school for 4 years -> a better chance of making it to the NFL, and a better draft position.
On 12/5/2024 at 8:12 AM, GunnerBill said:It has been the best season I can remember, and I am very much looking forward to the playoff. I was against the 12 team playoff because the thing I hated in college football was uncompetitive games. I still say if they'd gone to a 12 team playoff say 5 or 6 years ago it would have been a disaster because most years there were max 3 teams with a real shot and the rest would just have been cannon fodder. I don't foresee a lot of blow outs in these playoffs. Maybe I'll be proven wrong on that, but all year pretty much we have had competitive games.
I still think there are tweaks that could be made. I don't agree with 5 conf champs automatically getting into the playoff. With the collapse of the PAC there is no "power 5" anymore... let's be real there's a power 2 - the SEC and the Big 10. I think the other conferences should have two conference champ spots to shoot for rather than three. Equally there are still changes that I'd make to the way the regular season scheduling happens.
That said, I think greater parity and competitiveness is here to stay. Fewer dynasties will be great for the sport. Sport needs jeopardy and unpredictability to be at its best. College Football now has that, despite all the administrators pretty much being against how we got here the new reality is going to make some people a ton of money.
This is I can agree.
However, it's the people with the money that are going to dictate the path.
The SEC and the Big 10 have the most money, and the biggest clout.
They will dictate how this moves forward. We are just along for the ride.
The SEC/Big 10 do not need those other conferences. Period. They have already raided the Big 12, and the PAC.
They are waiting on the ACC to implode (IMO). Once that happens, it will be a feeding frenzy for the choice programs. After that ...?

I heard on radio today, i think Gary Danielson? anyway he said the Bama AD is angry and the SEC has a lot of power. They don’t like having 3 teams while the Big10 has four. He speculates the SEC will demand four teams to be selected in the future and will get their way. He said they would do away with Conference Championship game weekend. Those games will be eliminated. and the SEC and maybe Big10 will have play-in games to determine who the 4th teams will be.
The SEC and the Big 10 have already been in talks over numerous items including pulling out of the NCAA all together.
It will happen in some form.
It's just a matter of when- (within 2, maybe 3 years IMO).
There have been rumblings over the years about the larger schools are tired of being constrained by the mid majors.
I believe the Big 10 and SEC are waiting on the ACC to implode (and it will implode).
Then they will swoop in, grab the choice programs, and give the NCAA and the mid majors a big fat finger.
If they completely pull out, the ripple effect across all collegiate sports will be huge, not just football.
If they can make it happen, they may just pull out the football programs and set up a separate association just for that sport.
So, anybody that likes the present 12 team playoff, enjoy it while it lasts.
This is far from over.
Money has infected college football, and if there is one true constant, money will win.

WNY is not a hot bed of talent like Texas or Florida or Georgia
But it's still produces more division one football players then New England region, and the Dakotas and West Virginia and Nebraska and Wyoming
The Monsignor Martin League.. aka the Catholic League
Puts out division 1 kids every single year.. even Bennett the city powerhouse , consistently puts two kids division 1 yearly
Yeah, and?
Conference expansion is mostly about money.
How many eyes will the school bring to the conference.
Again, WNY - small market, UB - not a national brand.
Division 1 is subdivided by FBS and FCS schools.
Handful of talent every year.
Great way to make a case for a conference like the Big 10 to come calling.
45 minutes ago, Buffalo716 said:We had a kid from Western New York sign with Georgia
Well, that settles it.
The SEC needs to jump on this before the Big 10 can.

laughable comments on UB. They are a basketball school with one of the worst basketball programs in the nation.
Nobody even cares about their football team, they should end the program even
big 10? lol can you imagine Ohio State playing on Millersport Hwy with a track around the field in front of 200 fans.
To be fair, if Ohio State did show up, the stadium would be filled - with OSU fans.

I would think No. UB could be a much better program if they could get butts in the seats but Buffalonians don’t really have any interest in them. They could be in the Big 10 someday if people would invest and in return the school would invest in making that happen
What makes you think the Big10 would even want the Bulls? The Bulls have nothing to offer.
Buffalo is a small TV market, WNY is not a hot bed for HS talent, and the UB Bulls are not exactly a nationally known brand.
UB would better served if it tried to join a better mid-major conference like the Big 12 or the PAC-?.

Not really sure where to put this, but since it deals with college hoops:

Lack of discipline is a HUGE problem. DeBoer has an ice cream truck and loud music at practice. The players are not used to being this comfortable.
That said, the elephant in the room imo is Milroe. Great runner, strong arm, but he isn't a good passer or decision maker. There is talent up and down their roster. The receivers, TEs, and running backs are fine, but; teams are jamming the line of scrimage and daring Milroe to throw, and he just isn't very good at it, at least when compared to their previous four (if not six) quarterbacks. My biggest fear wrt the Tide is that Milroe gets a poor draft grade and comes back for his 3 million NIL.
It's time for them to turn the page at QB.
Jmo.
Milroe was great against LSU this past Saturday, but they didn't ask him to pass a lot.
That limited his flaws/inconsistencies.
It seems when they ask him to pass more, and if he can't get into any rhythm, the "bad Milroe" appears: poor footwork/mechanics, poor field vision/progression and indecisive/poor decision making.
He is so maddeningly inconsistent.
Last year, it was reported OC Rees had to simplify the offense because Milroe was struggling grasping Rees's offense.
DeBoers offense is supposed to be somewhat complicated, and he's dealing with what talent he was left with.
Back in September, DeBoer said he has less than 50% of his offense installed for this year, because he doesn't have the correct personnel to run it.
So any talk of how he is on the hot seat this year is extremely premature.

You might be right, might be jumping the gun a little bit either way his seat is on fire right now.
No it's not. No matter how much you want it be.
He is halfway through his first season.
Kirby Smart went 8-4 his first season at UGA, and he lost to Vandy, Tennessee, and GT. All of them at home. And it's not like he was handed a crap roster.

Said in another post, DeBoer is done there unless he goes 5-0 to end the season.
No.
In 2007, Saban's first year at Bama, they went 6-6, that included losing the last 4 games of year with losses to Miss St, Auburn (a 6th straight loss), and Louisiana-Monroe.
I am not saying DeBoer is going to be Bamas HC long term, or he is going to win multiple NC, but this one year is not going to decide his fate at UA.
The one disturbing trend I do see under KD is the lack of team discipline. That needs to change.

Heck of a game, but the good guys eventually won.
I almost feel bad for UGA's next opponent who will take the wrath of UGA's frustration.
But then I remember, UGA's next opponent is Auburn.
I don't feel so bad anymore.
@#$% Auburn.

Do you know if bellenfant was on scholarship at the University of Alabama or a walk on?
I mean either way having Alabama interested in you and making the team is amazing.. but I've been wondering if we got a scholarship Alabama kicker or a guy who walked on and made the team
As a scout I should probably know that but Alabama kicking prospects is not really in my wheelhouse
Bellenfant was a walk on as a back up. Spent 2 years at Bama and never saw the field.

That’s what I said. GA dude rips a Kentucky player’s helmet off…..15 yards. AGAINST Kentucky!
He was referring to the LSU vs USC game:

USC had 2 TDs pulled off the board because of the officials.
Game was officiated by Jason Autrey's crew, one of the worst, if not the worst, in the SEC.
Autrey has been suspended in the past because of his really boneheaded calls.

Gotta say that the first two episodes of SEC shorts are really good. I think most college football fans will enjoy these. Got to watch them to the end.

I don't think so. They play other lesser teams and will work their way into the playoffs. That said, it doesn't seem fair. They should just join a conference (Big Ten) and face real teams.
Jmo.
For clarity, they are already part of a conference.
Their football program remains independent, but the school is a member of the ACC: https://theacc.com/index.aspx?path=notre_dame

According to every single strength of schedule metric Missouri is lower than Notre Dame
Mozz combined record of the opponents they play this year they were under 500 last year
Yeah they have some tough sec games
Do you forget how even Alabama went to A&m and lost a few years ago? Playing the top two ACC schools from a year ago.. the fourth place ACC team.. a 10 win Arizona team.. and USC.. while going to A&m it's not a cakewalk
Let alone they also play the top two favorite Mac teams.. it's not like they played Chattanooga
It's Notre Dame.. of course they get media love and national spotlight attention.. it was the same 50 years ago... College football has more interest when Notre Dame is good
I get what you are trying to say regarding Bama losing to ATM, but that was 3 years ago.
Since then, ATM has changed HC and with roster turnover, the 2024 team is almost completely different than the 2021 team.
Did you watch any of the ND-ATM game? Weigman, the ATM QB, was brutal.
ATM has 9 (NINE!) QBs on the roster, and he was the best they have? They better hope Weigman had first start jitters, or its going to be a long ugly season for them.
At this juncture, it is way to early to tell just how bad/good ATM is, and how much over hype ND is getting.

Yeah, the same way football is the same as baseball just with 2 more players
Never saw an offside in BB.
How about 5 on 4?
Throw a BB into the corner and send somebody into the corner to dig it out?
