  1. Assuming Texas and OU to SEC is a done deal, how you do see the divisions set up and the scheduling?

    Shake up?

Or just dropping one team into each division, ala TAM and Mizzu.

    Stay at 8 inter-conference games?

Or expand to 9, possibly 10?

They would have to go to 9 SEC games unless they plan on dropping the permanent cross divisional rivalry games.

    No more UT-Bama or Auburn-UGA.

There is big chunk of Auburn fans that would like to see Auburn move to the East to get away from Bama.

If that happens, we are looking at the possible loss of the Iron Bowl.

Not sure if the SEC is willing to give that up.

The Iron Bowl is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, rivalry in CFB, and all the attention it brings.

Dropping Texas in the West, and Zero U in the East makes the Red River Shootout a perm cross divisional rivalry, while restoring the UT and TAM rivalry.

That's what the bylaw says. Majority must be a relative term to Kirk Bohls. Yes, I'm sure he restated in a later tweet.

Mizzou and A&M are hard no's. Texas will blow it due to the Longhorn Network, which is the reason A&M, Mizzou, Colorado and Nebraska all left the Big 12. SEC is all about treating each institution equally when it comes to revenue sharing. Only way this goes through is if ESPN takes the money they're paying Texas for LHN, and adds it to the 2024 broadcast rights contract signed between ESPN and the SEC. If the SEC doesn't get a significant bump in TV revenue, it makes no sense to split revenue 16 ways instead of 14 ways, with little revenue increase. LHN should go the way of the dinosaur.

Or they could just scrap the LHN.

ESPN had been losing money on the LHN.

    I doubt it has changed.

I know at one point, the cable providers wanted nothing to do with LHN as it was a ratings disaster.

This move is not just about TV money, its about CFB money.

If the playoffs expand, the SEC would increase their chances of multiple teams being in.

I know it was dumb of Herm but if a player is on campus there is no logic in limiting meeting him.

I think you missed the point here.

    It was a dead period.

The recruit should not have been on campus at all.

52 minutes ago, Buffalo Timmy said:

If the purpose is to give players space if they want it then it should limit any communication off of the campus. These kids who are talented get literally dozens of text a day from colleges starting sophomore year- if not earlier- so the texting is not giving them a break.

    I agree with this.

That's part of the reason why the NCAA gets in so much trouble.

Their rules, regulations, and policies can be confusing, and make no sense.

    Enforcement?

    Don't even get me started.

Coaches can't meet with recruits on campus visits? No wonder the NCAA is constantly pummeled in court, most of the rules are just for control.

The violations happened during a recruiting "dead period".

    https://www.ncsasports.org/ncaa-eligibility-center/recruiting-rules/dead-period

"The most restrictive of all the recruiting periods is the NCAA Dead Period. During the dead period, coaches may not have any in-person contact with recruits and/or their parents. In other words, coaches are not allowed to talk to recruits at their college campus, the athlete’s school, an athletic camp or even the grocery store."

"The goal of the NCAA Dead Period is to give athletes a little bit of time and breathing room to think about what school they want to sign with."

It should be noted coaches can still call recruits and contact them through digital communications.

If coaches are going to flaunt the rules, at least they should be smart about it.

Taking pictures with the recruits was pretty 🤬 stupid.

    This not looking good.

"Sources said members of the football program deliberately, blatantly and consistently broke rules related to hosting players during the dead period, including coach Herm Edwards meeting with recruits. A source added that the evidence included pictures of the visits, including Edwards with a recruit who ended up enrolling at ASU."

However I think it is worthwhile to give some of these smaller programs their shot because even though they will get smoked more often than not in the early years of this format there is a chance that the recruiting field will even out a bit as better talent filters down to other schools once they can start using 'x amount of years' in the playoff as a recruitment incentive.

Could take a while but will be worth it in the long run if it evens the playing field a bit which would definitely add more to the entertainment side of college football as a whole.

IMO, expanding the playoffs to 12 will not even out the talent level.

    It will do the opposite.

During the BCs years, no team had an "automatic" by-in for the 1 or 2 spot.

The talent was more spread out.

Nobody knew who the 2 teams were going to be.

Now with 4 teams in the playoffs, is it any coincidence why the same teams keep getting the better recruits?

You think 12 teams will stop that?

Can't wait until the blowouts continue, and then the cries for expanding the playoffs resurface.

Because the only way to fix the problem of crappy teams getting blown out in the playoffs, is to add even more crappier teams.

I agree it is not a perfect analogy but you state the QBs go to the powerhouse schools, in the top 6  best QBs in the NFL you have  Louisville, Cal, Wyoming,  NC State which are all hardly football factories. I agree most years the power 5 will dominate but the once every 12 year teams do happen elsewhere.

At least you admitted the comparison of FB to BB was bad, but then you follow it up with comparing CFB QBs that made it in the NFL.

Not sure what you are trying to argue there.

But, if spitting out random factoids is the way to go:

Joe Montana was drafted in the third round, Drew Brees was drafted in the second round, and as we all know, Brady in the 6th.

AJ MacCarron was the starting QB at BAMA for 4 years, and guided BAMA to 3 NC during that time.

He is one only 7 QBs to win back to back NC.

His NFL career has not been quite so spectacular.

Your argument is simply that because historically it is true it is always true.

This is an interesting comment, given what you say just after this.

6 hours ago, Buffalo Timmy said:

Your comment that UCF would not have scored against Alabama shows your ignorance of UCF in 2017. UCF put up 31 against Auburn which is more than any other team that year. UCF actually scored the most points on every team they played that year.

I don't care if "UCF actually scored the most points on every team they played that year."

Doing that against Austin Peay, UConn, and FIU is noting to brag about, considering the rest of that cup cake schedule they played in 2017.

And this: "Your comment that UCF would not have scored against Alabama shows your ignorance of UCF in 2017. UCF put up 31 against Auburn which is more than any other team that year."

UCF scored 34 points, by the way.

Auburn scored 27. And even took a lead at one point in that game.

Auburn had more total yardage than UCF.

The difference was Auburn coughed the ball up 3 times. Even 1 less TO, I think the game ends in a different outcome.

IMO, I will not say UCF would not score against Bama, but I have no problem stating Bama would walk away with a pretty convincing win.

I also believe if UCF played AU's 2017 schedule, UCF would have ended up with at least 4 losses during the regular season.

They had a story on Channel 7 and the owner might be looking to sell it and hopefully have it reopen under new management.

Sell the business or the building? Or both?

In the BN story, they said they were willing to lease out the building, but were not selling the business.

"He said he plans to lease out the building, but he's not interested in selling the business to someone else because he doesn't want to diminish the brand his family worked so hard to build over 70 years."

Yeah, but all I'm saying is that they could have stayed open - for example - Friday, Saturdays and Sundays - for 6-8 hours/day until people actually need to work again.  Just as a bridge.  Just a shame that a place with that kind of history has to close altogether.

According to the story, it sounds like the owners were just done with it.

They closed because of the pandemic, and had no intention of reopening.

Somebody convinced them to reopen with the intent of taking over the business, but the owners decided not to sell the business to an outsider.

Closing was inevitable. The current situation just accelerated their decision.

Not sure about this hire. But then again, I was surprised Nick rehired Sarkisian given what happened the first time around.

There is no excuse for Texas not to be one of the best programs in the country. Maybe the best college “town,” monster enrollment, and arguably the best football state in the country.  Seems like it should be such an easy job.

Wrt Cochrane, he is a great asset to the Crimson Tide but I really do suspect that Saban has a replacement lined up because he is probably one of the most organized people on Earth.

Cochran is not going anywhere, especially to Ole Miss with Kiffin.

If Cochran leaves, UGA would be one of the first teams knocking on his door.

What aspects of the Pro game do you prefer over the College, and Vice Versa? For me:

    College:

Overtime System. I like the fact that there's virtually no way it ends in a tie. And each team gets an equal chance. It's like baseball extra innings. I get the NFL argument of "The defense should have be able to stop them." But we don't do that in baseball. If the team scores a run in the top of the 11th, we don't call game over. The home team always gets a chance to counter.

One foot in bounds for a catch. I just like this rule better.

Atmosphere at a game. NFL crowds just don't have as much fun as college crowds. The tailgating, the bands playing in the game, the fans generally just tend to have more passion and fun at the game. The Buffalo Bills fanbase are certainly an exception to this rule. We have the college atmosphere because we still have ticket prices that the real fan can afford. But most NFL stadiums just don't touch the fun of even smaller, lower level college games.

    Pro:

Playoff system. This one is probably the most obvious. Every team is given a fair chance at the playoffs, and there's an actual system in place to determine who makes the playoffs.

Parity. Even a game between the best and worst team in the league, is a game between the best, and 32nd best football team in the whole world. I understand why games are scheduled between Alabama and Central Northwestern Delaware Tech, the money, the practice for the better team, and the scout exposure for the few possible draftees on the smaller schoo's end. But it's not fun to watch as a fan of either team, or a random spectator.

Pass Interference Rule. It should be at the spot of the foul, not a maximum of 15 yards. If I'm a college coach, I'm telling my players to do whatever they can to stop a pass longer than 15 yards, because I'd prefer the penalty. It's just now how the games should be played.

I prefer the college rule for overtime.

I prefer the 2 feet in for pro, 1 foot for college. Just one of the those instances that differentiates between amateur and pro.

Same goes for pass interference: spot of foul for the pros, 15 yard cap for college.

I like the college concept when a player goes down, he's down, regardless if he was downed by contact.

Get rid of the playoffs at the college level, at least at the FBS level.

Go back to the BCS, or just just play the bowl games at the end of the year.

The disparity of talent and resources from the big schools to the small schools, and from the P5 conferences to the G5 conferences makes any attempt to "fix the problem" a waste of time.

2 hours ago, The Real Buffalo Joe said:

The relegation thing sort of happens, but it's not an official thing. I'm a Houston fan, and we've been so close to being a true contender. Problem is, every time we build a team good enough, it doesn't last because our coaches leave for other schools. Art Briles, Kevin Sumlin, Tom Herman. It's not that we as a university can't match their salary. But with the way college football works,  if you're not in a P5 conference, you have zero chance at making the playoffs.

Being an upper mid tier school, it's hard to get big outer conference opponents. Where a team from the MAC (No offense to UB teams), is gonna lose every time. If we played Clemeson/LSU/etc, they'd win 19/20 times. But that doesn't do anything for their ranking. But, while it's a longshot, we have the ability to beat them, and that would just kill them so they refuse to play us.

I suppose you can prove this?

Or is this just the usual BS fan speculation/fantasy?
