Of course not. I do think it's weird for people that have no connection to a school choosing to root for them just because they win, especially if they are also Bills fans.

It's like people who became Patriot fans after Brady, or people who root for the Cowboys, Lakers and Yankees.

"I do think it's weird for people that have no connection to a school choosing to root for them just because they win..."

This happens quite frequently, both at the collegiate level and at the professional level.

It's not a coincidence the number of Bills fan grew during the early 90's when the Bills went to 4 SB.

It's not a coincidence the number of CFL fans, who did not even care for the NFL, suddenly became Bills fans in the late 90's because of certain player.

The “Seminoles” should be commended for taking their cultural appropriation to this level…getting screwed out of something that they fought hard for and was rightfully theirs by a bunch of ignorant Jim Crow types is next level commitment to the bit.

And let’s also rejoice for ‘Bama. These rednecks, who couldn’t be bothered to score a 900 on their SATs, care nothing about standard of living and state poverty levels…football is all that matters. I’m happy for them.

Oooooh, the butt hurt is strong in this one.

I think they make a cream for that. Just ask the Auburn fans.

I agree to an extent, but we won't be arguing/discussing whether the GA's, UA's, FSU's, OSU's, Oregon's should get the last spot. It will be whom among the Louisville's, ND's, Arizona's and LSU's (using this year as an example) should get #10, #11, #12.

Like I said, just moving the goal posts.

Lets not forget, the top 4 teams get a bye, while teams 5-8 have to play an extra game in the 12 team format.

In years, what is the over/under on that becoming an issue that just needs to be "fixed" to make college football better?

    2? 3? 4?

    It will happen.

    Heck, maybe just 1.

Look at this year. Imagine if this year was a 12 team playoff year.

Bama at 4, and FSU at 5.

I can already hear the bitching and crying about how it's not fair how FSU has to play an extra game as they are undefeated.

UGA is claiming they are the 4th best team. Don't they deserve to get a bye?

Nah, undefeateds won’t get to 12. No one will care about one loss SMU getting in or not.

    You're deluded.

The NCAA used to rank 64 teams for BB.

That number was raised to 65. Why?

Somebody, or somebodies, felt the 65th team deserved a shot.

So the 64th team and 65th team could a have game to decide the actual 64th seed.

That was raised to 67 teams. Why?

Same BS reason. Now the 64-67 teams can have a mini playoff for 64th seed.

Despite 67 teams getting to make the BB playoffs, there are still controversies about who gets selected and where they are ranked.

The last time I checked, there was only 1 team to win it all that was ranked lower than 20.

    1 team. 1 ****ing team.

In reality, the NCAA only needs to rank the top 16 teams and let them play because that's where 99% of the time where the BB champion comes from.

And yet, people B word because their team was not selected.

So yeah, people will B word because the one loss SMU team did not get selected.

You can bet the house on that.

  5. Mullen?

I would be horrified if his name came up as a HC possibility.

You need recruiting in order to acquire talent, and NY state is not a hot bed of football talent.

It may not be the dumpster fire Nebraska is, but its not Florida either.

In Florida, you can tie a hundred dollar bill to piece of string, drag it behind you, and acquire multiple talented players.

Mullen and his staff were not big on recruiting apparently.

    And that was a problem.

Being at a Florida school and not actively recruiting the instate talent was not only insanely stupid, that is practically criminal.

Brown may or may not fail.

Its a pretty solid bet Mullen would have.

Great win by Bama, but can anyone explain Auburn’s defense on the long fourth and goal? Obviously you don’t blitz, but no one even attempted to rush the QB. Three defensive lineman just stood back, what purpose did they serve?

They wanted front row seats to one of the greatest plays in Iron Bowl history ....

UVA is a crap school for football... you'd think they would want UNC and Virginia Tech. UVA to the SEC would be a dumb move.

If you think expansion is just about football, you would be wrong.

It's about "eyes", and what those eyes mean to TV deals.

FB and BB bring the most eyes at the collegiate level.

While VT may have the better FB program, UVA has the better BB program.

    UVA -> the Richmond market.

    VT -> the Roanoke market.

That's a no brainer right there.

Besides, Frank Beamer retired after 2015.

Good story in The Athletic today about Cal and Stanford joining the ACC. It noted that its just a matter of time until FSU and Clemson leave for the SEC since they already are threatening

No guarantee if the SEC even wants Clemson and FSU.

The SEC already has a big presence in SC and FL.

So the only thing they add are their brands.

From what I have been reading, the big targets are UNC and UVA.

This would not only add brands, but new markets as well.

  9. As collateral damage, what happens with the Rose Bowl now?

With the pending demise of the PAC 12, and the expansion of CFB playoffs, any leverage they had of being relevant is gone.

I'm sure a CFB playoff game will be held there, but I doubt they will be able to throw their weight around anymore.

I live in SEC country, and there’s at least still the passion and rivalry, along with (somewhat) of a geographic relevance to the conference, but my college is Syracuse.. and it’s only a matter of time before the ACC implodes with FSU/Clemson to the SEC and UNC/NC State to the B1G.

Well, if they are intent on doing stupid:

    That's crazy!

    What can the PAC do?

At some point, it appears the commissioner floated $50M per year per school if the conference switched from network tv rights to one of the subscription based streaming services.

The PAC has been negotiating with Apple TV, and the number turned out to be $20M annually.

In comparison, the Big 12 recently signed new contracts with ESPN and Fox, getting their programs $32M annually.

It's easy to see why schools want out of the PAC 12.

Ironically, in hindsight, UT and OU leaving the Big 12 may have been best thing to happen for the Big 12's survival.

They can now spread the tv money equally among the schools, and come across as being a stable conference.

Who is left for the PAC (insert number here) to pick up? Without USC and UCLA it's sort of wack already. San Diego St? Boise St? UNLV? BYU would have made some sense but they already made their move.

San Diego St wanted to join the PAC 12, even notifying the MW conference they were leaving.

But, SDSU decided not to leave, and wanted to remain in the MW.

    https://www.axios.com/local/san-diego/2023/07/19/san-diego-state-university-mountain-west

As for the Big12, rumors are AZ, ASU, and Utah also want to jump ship from the PAC possibly to the Big 12.

If that happens, the PAC would be toast.

I don’t care what the Texas Longhorns have money wise today it’s irrelevant once professional sports takes there revenue away and market share. The take is solid. Put another NBA team in Syracuse see how many people go to Syracuse Orange basketball games. Syracuse Orange grew when the Syracuse Nats moved for Philadelphia to become the Philadelphia 76ers in 1963. Syracuse Orange basketball capitalized on that. Any college town/city that becomes a professional sports city it weakens the college sports team unless they are winning national championships year after year or they are Los Angeles that is a huge market with lots of corporate sponsors money. Austin has MLS right now but NFL goes in there Texas Longhorns football are like UNLV basketball in the 1970’s through 1990’s. Once Austin gets that taste Texas will be weaken especially since they aren’t what they once were now. See Memphis State Tigers basketball when the NBA went there. Minnesota Golden Gophers football when the Minnesota Vikings arrived, the Little Three basketball here in Western New York when the Buffalo Bills, Sabres and Braves arrived. You put NFL in Columbus, Ohio turn off the lights with Ohio State dominance. Washington Huskies haven’t done zip since the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners came to town. Texas Longhorns exist as triple a football once the NFL and Major League Baseball takes a big scoop of money out of the ad revenue of Texas starts to dry up and they start to lose market share. It is a very solid take. Alabama if the NFL went to Birmingham, Alabama it would weaken Alabama Crimson Tide football. Again they will exist but it weakens the college sports once major league sports come to cities. There are very few exceptions to that rule in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

    1. Did you just really try to compare/equate Austin to Syracuse?

    2. You really do not understand college football in the South.

    3. Do you have any clue about football in Texas? I mean the state, not just the school.

Anybody that had a brain cell to burn knew Deon would bring in elite recruits. It’s a beautiful area and he was doing it already outside of D1. To be perfectly honest, it’s a joke Deon didn’t get approached sooner. How many coaches in the country are going to basically guarantee you a high end class? He doesn’t need to be an elite coach. Colorado will do more than turn it around soon enough.

Deon has 3 years of coaching at the collegiate level in any capacity.

When should he have been approached? After one week?

"He doesn’t need to be an elite coach. Colorado will do more than turn it around soon enough."

If Colorado starts churning out 6-8 wins a season, that will good enough?

  15. "If approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on April 20, the game clock will continue to run when a first down is gained. Currently, the game clock stops when a first down is gained, and the clock restarts when the offense is awarded a first down. The game clock will continue to be stopped when a first down is gained during the last two minutes of either half."

Teams would be prohibited from calling consecutive team timeouts.

Penalties at the end of the first and third quarter would carry over and be enforced on the first play of the next quarter.

I do however think that it is to his advantage to stay where he is and beat up on all of the weak teams.

I also think that is an advantage he has.

However, I don't think he would pull a Riley and bolt for another team at the first whiff of Clemson joining the SEC.

At a press conference last year, Dabo was asked his opinion regarding Clemson fans wanting to join the SEC.

Essentially he stated that players come to Clemson because of Clemson and what it can offer.

Not what conference they do or do not play in.

I think there is a lot of truth in that.

As long he can keep Clemson in the talks of a NC every year, Clemson will attract players.
