I am sure it is just an old take, maybe different names to describe formation and routes, with one or two hot/audible calls for each play.
Something called in huddle like" trips right, x cross, y slant, z fly, slide left on 2" which set it up as a 3 WR set right, three patterns and the blocking scheme.
He then might have a different color, city name, etc.. to hot read off for each receiver. That's what Kelly had. And it would change each game. He might call out RED, designating whoever the RED receiver as his first read based on the defense. He might also call out RED 2, which means RED WR goes to his 2nd alternate route.
Again that was how the Bills used to work, and I am sure it is different now. As someone mentioned you might have the QB call off all the alternate routes for each play in the huddle as well, if you have stupid receivers. This was actually part of the issue with Bledsoe and other receivers besides Moulds as Moulds knew the alternate routes and other receivers didn't always remember them for each play. Hence also why Shaw was cut.
you see, VA, this is why nobody takes you seriously. or at least, why i don't. you throw out this stuff with nothing factual to back it up. the first part of your post is at least educational on some level, but you !@#$ed it up with the last two sentences.

Oh I am wrong all the time, and in fact if you go back and read what I said last week, I have said I hope I am wrong about JP in the long run. But again lets ignore facts and focus on only what you want to read.
You may want to go back and look at Favre again. He threw 2 times the TD to INT's in his second year. Again just the facts.
WHO needs to check his facts?
1991 -- rookie w/ ATL; threw 5 passes
1992 -- 18 TD, 13 INT
1993 -- 19 TD, 24 INT
1994 was his breakout year with 33 TD and 14 INT.
VA, do you really enjoy embarrassing yourself consistently?

They are doing a muscle biopsy on me tomorrow morning around 6am. I was told that I'd be done by noon, and that I'm not supposed to go to work for a week afterward. I'm taking the rest of this week off after today, so w/ the weekend, it gives me a good 5 days of rest. I hope it goes smoothly and that they don't accidentally cut off an arm or a leg.
the first problem i see is that you're not sure whether they're cutting on your arm or your leg.
seriously, good luck and best wishes.

I am not VA, but I would like to take a stab at this....
Having now seen more of JP, I am very impressed with him as an athlete. He throws crisp passes, and I am thrilled by, and grateful for his work ethic.
I think he might very well be good, but who in hell would know whether or not he will be a star!
Do you think that he will be a star?
bill, you are most certainly NOT VA, and that is appreciated.
i know you were very skeptical of JP prior to camp, and it's good to see you beginning to switch to a more favorable viewpoint.
in answer to your question -- IF losman learns to avoid taking unnecessary hits, then based upon what i've seen so far i do believe that he will become a top-10 QB in the league within a year or two. the only thing i think could hold him back is if he is injured as a result of his recklessness running with the ball. he already does some things you don't expect out of a young QB -- such as throwing the ball where only his receiver can get it (away from the defender).
i'm excited about the red zone production. JP has the two characteristics you need a QB to have down there -- mobility to make things happen if a play breaks down, and a rocket arm (with accuracy) to get the ball into tight spots.
i don't understand how anyone who is a bills' fan could watch losman play and not be excited by his potential. we all admit that there will be head-scratching moments. that was the gist of my first post in this thread -- nobody should expect a polished QB this season. but it will be exciting, and JP will make plays if he doesn't get his head knocked off first.

you call this an intelligent point/counterpoint?
-
Because if everyone sat around with rose colored glasses singing Kumbi - by !@#$ing - yah, then what need would there be for the board.
Poster 1 - JP is great
Poster 2 - I agree
Poster 3 - Yeah we haven't made the playoffs in 6 years, but TD, MM are doing a greate job. Oh yeah and JP is great.
Poster 4 - I agree with everybody else, we should change a thing with this team, even though we never make the playoffs
Then we have others
Poster 5 - We have issues as a team, here is what I see. a.b.c
Poster 1 - You suck poster 5 and are not a Bills fan
Poster 2 - At least he isn't Drew, but poster 5 you're an idiot
Poster 3- I agree with poster 1 and 2
Poster 4 - Yeah what they said, because I am unable to ahave an original thought nor comprehend anything beyond what One Bills Drive is telling me.
your maturity level is approaching BF status...you should be arriving there shortly.

then you quite obviously have not read a thing i've posted. taking a cautiously optimistic side of things, while maintaining a sense of realism, is called "being a fan." why don't you try it some time, instead of being a post-whore who really adds nothing to an intelligent discussion among bills' fans?
-
then you didn't read my post earlier in the thread.
truthfully, i can't remember the last bit of non-biased, non-agenda-laced commentary you offered with respect to the bills.
but you do a great job of calling people fags and conjuring up ways to use pickle juice. good job.
-
why is it, VA, that you can never respond intelligently or in a factual manner with respect to your criticism of losman, aside from those things we all notice in a 1st-year starter?
-
exactly. there is no "national" broadcast of preseason, and since the NFL network is a national network, they give both teams' fans a taste of the hometown announcers.
i too think it's a great idea.

what i don't understand (among many things) is why people continue to post about losman as if he is already supposed to be a polished, finished QB? he's a friggin' first year starter and is constantly learning.
anyone who expects JP to "light up" the league this season is fooling himself. are there veterans who could be good fits for the bills' offense (including holcomb)? of course. but the constant "JP looks uncomfortable," "JP takes off to run too quickly," "JP is staring at his receiver" commentary from the worry warts is getting a bit old. i'm GLAD losman has the awareness to get himself out of trouble right now. he will learn to stick around in the pocket more as he plays more. he has terrific coaches watching film and teaching him how to do things differently the next time.
you know what JP HAS done? he has led three TD drives and two FG drives in his last seven drives of work. he has shown in-game ability to learn from mistakes. he looks like he's taking control of things on the field. in just two lousy preseason games, he looks a zillion times more polished than kyle boller.
ask yourselves this question -- do we as bills' fans want production, or are we only interested in perfection in technique, savvy, and what we think a starting QB is "supposed" to look like?
i certainly encourage, and enjoy reading, posts that offer analysis and critique of players and coaches. i'm not an "everything has to be positive" guy, even though i am more optimistic than a lot of you. i just view a lot of the losman posts as wheel-spinning.
flame away.

jesus, that left nipple is almost on her back. nice work, doctor.
-
all i have to say is, if this is truly "real" then you lead one hell of a life. the mysterious diseases, the multitude of sex partners, now a murder mystery...i must be one boring sonofabitch.
-
i don't necessarily agree with everything you said, but that's a heluva post nonetheless. thanks for the in-depth analysis.
one point i need to stress -- and it pains me to say this -- is that josh reed is giving 100% effort out there. he is by far the best blocking WR the bills have, and i just wish there was a way to get his confidence back in his hands. the guy is trying so damn hard and it's painful to watch him drop balls.
-
i just don't get the point in ripping a guy no longer with the team. i agree, it was the right move and can't wait to see the start to the "jp" years, but bledsoe was a professional and a class act. with so many guys out there like owens, moss, ray lewis, and the 'wizzonator' just to name a few, can't we just wish the guy luck and leave it there? it's not like he left town with the finger extended
you answered your own question. those who agree with the move are happy, but just can't shake the "we should have kept bledsoe and let losman learn for another year" contingent. thus, the need to rip bledsoe in order to justify the bills' decision.
he IS a good guy. he just isn't a good QB anymore. and, by the way, the finger was a bit extended when he left. or didn't you see the dallas PC when he made it a point to say that his kids "got rid of that other stuff" referring to their bills gear?

I know JP hasn't lit up the scoreboard, but I think he's doing what's being asked of him.
"Everyone has noticed the less than stellar play of QB J.P. Losman, Buffalo's young starting quarterback, and that's why veteran Kelly Holcomb, who has a great command of the offense, was signed. Holcomb is great off the bench. ..."
if losman's play has been "less than stellar" so far, i can't wait to watch bledsoe's "slightly more than putrid" play tonight.

gudmundson = lief larsen II. we don't need nice "stories" on the team; we need big, strong, fast, smart football players.
you know....guys like coy wire.
-
whether or not one is needed, my wife and i recently obtained ours and plan to take them when we're in the area for the opener. we're going to toronto for a couple of days and didn't want to take any chances.
the process to get one is pretty simple. go here for details. it took about 3 weeks to get ours once the applications were turned in.

mcjeff, i think people bring it up b/c there are still many bills' fans who wanted bledsoe to stay and start for one more season while losman "learned" from the sideline. in order to silence these critics, losman needs to play at or above the level of bledsoe. it won't even matter if the bills go 16-0 in these peoples' minds, if bledsoe has better stats w/ dallas.
fyi, you win or lose a game.
How do we solve this?

we can only hope it's just in the name and not his playing lol.
