His offense really doesn't seem to have an identity past "let Josh run around in the backfield like a maniac and wait for him to do something amazing."

He hasn't generated any type of running game (outside of our QB of course). We drafted him a shifty RB in the 2nd round with great hands but he doesn't seem to be able to scheme a RB screen game to take pressure off Josh. We doubled down and got him a proven pass-catching RB in Hines, but he quickly got relegated to special teams which is nice, but certainly not the reason we traded for him. When other teams start bracketing Diggs the offense starts to looks pedestrian and again reverts into "Josh has to do everything" mode.

I guess you can blame the offensive line for some of the issues but the takes of "it's just his 1st year!" are complete homer nonsense. If he just arrived in town last year that might hold some water, but he's been here since 2019 under Daboll's wing.

My contention is that if you gave Dorsey an OC job with anything less than a top-5 QB he would be fired within 2 years.

KD did absolutely nothing to help the OL….in the modern game you need a quick passing game to deter pass rushers, we threw the quick passing game away practically. We attack the edges of the field and not the middle. We didn’t use Knox, Shakir, Hodgson or the running backs enough. We called runs into run Ds and threw passes into pass defenses. Always calling slow, long developing plays with little chance of success when you call them over and over. Few  misdirection plays.  There was a reason Daboll called the plays he did, they were all connected into a bigger plan. I didn’t see a method to KD’s madness. The O fell apart. Josh fell apart. Daboll left KD the best player in the world and now he isn’t the running (unless he returns to form.) I think KD could be the first coordinator fired this year, we’ll see…. We should be fine right out of the gate. There should be zero patience for a lack of success. Kromer should be ready to take over..,. I sure hope KD turns it around and makes it but there is no doubt that KD is one of the huge question marks for the Bills this season. We should see a quick and successful passing game right out of the gate. Josh did this before there are zero excuses. We should also have a stout run game and it too should be successful. We should have a very diverse complete offense this year. The only thing we lack is deep speed but we’re not slow by any means either…. IMHO, while we sure could an upgrade at #2 WR, Beane still has done an amazing job (Pegula really) rebuilding this team on both sides of the ball. This opening day 53 man roster should be much stronger than last season’s and we should be able to whoop the jets, imho…

While I’m glad to see the Bills try and address the O-line, I’m not sure they’ve done enough to give Josh good/quality targets. IMO, going in the season with Gabe Davis as the #2 WR is a mistake. Davis underperformed last season as he struggled with drops and contested catches. I feel Davis is a better #3WR than the #2 WR.

Trusting a rookie TE to be your slot guy is a huge risk. Would rather see a veteran WR in that position while they break Kincaid into that role.

I’m interested in seeing how the Bills use Harty and Sherfield, but neither guy has had eye-popping stats.

If there are no further upgrades to the WR group going into the season, I have concerns about the WR’s outside of Diggs.

Yes, we have absolutely no idea whether we have a legit #2 WR ot not; plain & simple.

However, I think we’re fine in the slot with Kincaid and Shakir…..and the rest.

iIt is far harder getting open coming off the LOS like a #2 or #4 WR has to….

I think we should get another WR to enhance our SB chances significantly….

We also lack speed so a burner would be good to add to the corps….

We need a good 1-tech and I assumed it was Poona….

I think he should be the #2 1-tech.

    little help?

I also think we play a ton of four wide like we use to all the time….

But now it’ll be: Diggs, Davis, Shakir and Kincaid (Yes, he’s a WR).

Poona Ford is the 1B 1-tech for the Buffalo Bills and everyone should be ecstatic about this….

In your opinion, what is Beane's biggest blunder either draft, free agency or trade? Something that has prevented the Bills from winning it all or putting them in what looks like a downward trajectory in terms of post season finishes since the AFC Championship game appearance in 2020?

For me it is using three day two picks on RB over four consecutive drafts from 2019 to 2022.

I think Singletary was a solid pick. Other than a case of the fumbles more than you would like he really produced AND he could do it all. A three down back. But using day two picks in 2020 and 2022 meant the Bills neglected the o-line.

This past draft should have been the draft to use another day two pick on a RB, after Singletary's rookie contract expired.

Beane’s weakest area has been the DL. He was right to invest in a strong DL but it didn’t work out at all….

Cody Ford instead of AJ Brown or fan favorite at the time, DK Metcalf. I question whether we would have traded for Diggs if we had drafted one of the two, however. Maybe we'd have Metcalf and Justin Jefferson. Maybe we wouldn't have Allen. Who knows.

All I know for sure is the Cody Ford was not a good football player when he was here.

This is revisionist history. Everybody on this site loved the Ford pick at the time.

I can't wait for the season to begin, even though I know it is a long way away still. Josh Allen is the man and he will have another great year, perhaps his best yet. Let's take a look at his top 10 performances so far in his career. When looking at these, I considered a few things: 1) what games would I show someone who had never heard of Josh Allen, 2) overall stats, and 3) the significance of the game at the time.

    1) 2021 - Wild Card Round vs New England (Result: Win 47 - 17)

Stats: 308 Passing Yards, 66 Rushing Yards, 5 TD's Passing, 84% Completion Percentage, 157.6 Rating

Josh Allen saved the best game of his career for the frigid 2021 wild card game against the hated New England Patriots. Josh Allen set a franchise playoff record with five touchdown passes. The margin of defeat was the largest in the playoffs for Bill Belichick in New England. Buffalo became the NFL's first team in the Super Bowl era to score on each of its seven possessions that didn’t end with a kneel-down. The Allen-led offense was so efficient it gained 480 yards offense on just 51 snaps before backup Mitchell Trubisky finished the game with three kneel-downs. It was the 4th coldest game in Bills history.

    2) 2020 - Week 2 @ Miami (Result: Win 44 - 34)

Stats: 415 Passing Yards, 19 Rushing Yards, 4 TD's Passing, 69% Completion Percentage, 146.7 Rating

Following his first career 300-passing-yard game in week 1 against the Jets, Allen had his first career 400-yard game in week 2, defeating the Miami Dolphins for the fourth consecutive time. Dueling former Buffalo Bill Ryan Fitzpatrick, Allen put up his highest career passer rating of 146.7, which still stands as his best in the regular season. At the time, the only other Bills player to throw for at least 415 yards and four scores was Joe Ferguson in 1983. Allen did it again in 2022.

    3) 2021 - Divisional Round @ Kansas City (Result: Loss 36 - 42)

Stats: 308 Passing Yards, 66 Rushing Yards, 5 TD's Passing, 84% Completion Percentage, 136.0 Rating

This game goes down as one of the greatest playoff games in NFL history and would be ranked higher if the Bills didn't throw away the win. The duel between Allen and Mahomes was epic. Josh Allen’s decision on the overtime coin toss was his only mistake all night. The lead changed hands three times in the final two minutes of regulation, with 25 points scored over that span. Mahomes and Allen each threw for at least 300 yards and three touchdowns, completed at least 70% of their passes without an interception, and led their teams with at least 65 yards rushing. No other quarterbacks in NFL history have accomplished those feats in a game, regular season or postseason.

    4) 2020 - Week 13 @ San Francisco (Result: Win 34 - 24)

Stats: 375 Passing Yards, 11 Rushing Yards, 4 TD's Passing, 80% Completion Percentage, 139.1 Rating

The most memorable part of this game was watching Robert Saleh, then 49ers defensive coordinator, go dead inside as Allen scored yet again on his "vaunted" defense. He had no answer. Allen could not be stopped. It was Allen's fourth game of the season with at least 300 yards passing and three touchdowns, setting a franchise record. It was the Bills first Monday Night Football win since 1999.

    5) 2021 - Week 5 @ Kansas City (Result: Win 38 - 20)

Stats: 315 Passing Yards, 59 Rushing Yards, 3 TD's Passing, 1 TD Rushing, 58% Completion Percentage, 139.1 Rating

Beating Kansas City and Mahomes for the first time was a big hurdle to overcome. Allen and the Bills finally looked like they were on par with the Chiefs and ready to contend with the best the NFL had to offer. Allen had one of his memorable leaps over a defender, threw for three TD's, and ran for another. This was a huge win that helped propel Josh Allen into consideration for the best QB in the NFL.

    6) 2020 - Week 9 vs Seattle (Result: Win 44 - 34)

Stats: 415 Passing Yards, 14 Rushing Yards, 3 TD's Passing, 82% Completion Percentage, 138.5 Rating

Seattle made it interesting late by getting their point total to 34, but this game was never that close. The Bills came out and dominated the first half. Overcoming the death of his grandmother, Josh Allen put on a clinic. The 44 points allowed were the most in Pete Carroll's 11 seasons in Seattle and the most for the franchise since 2009.

    7) 2022 - Week 2 vs Tennessee (Result: Win 41 - 7)

Stats: 317 Passing Yards, 10 Rushing Yards, 4 TD's Passing, 68% Completion Percentage, 128.9 Rating

The Bills had struggled against the Tennessee Titans in recent seasons, so this game was sweet revenge for Bills fans. Allen threw four touchdown passes, including three to Stefon Diggs. The defense also played well, forcing four turnovers and causing Ryan Tannehill to be benched. This was Allen's 15th game with 300 yards passing or more. That's impressive since he sat out the entire fourth quarter. “We got our (butts) kicked, plain and simple,” said Mike Vrabel afterward.

    8) 2020 - Week 15 @ Denver (Result: Win 48 - 19)

    Stats: 359 Passing Yards, 33 Rushing Yards, 2 TD's Passing, 2 TD's Rushing, 70% Completion Percentage, 114.5 Rating

This win cemented the division crown for the Bills for the first time since 1995. Josh Allen was electric. Vic Fangio watched helplessly on the sideline as Allen dismantled the Broncos defense over and over. To this day I remember that blank stare on his face as he threw his hands up, knowing there was no way to contain Allen. This game had it all from Allen: efficient passing, big throws, big runs, and stunned opponents. Before this game, Broncos fans were comparing Drew Lock to Josh Allen. That ended pretty quickly.

    9) 2022 - Week 5 vs Pittsburgh (Result: Win 38 - 3)

    Stats: 424 Passing Yards, 42 Rushing Yards, 4 TD's Passing, 1 INT, 65% Completion Percentage, 134.1 Rating

The revenge win against the Steelers, who beat the Bills week 1 of the previous season, was a total beatdown. Allen's 98-yard TD pass to Gabe Davis, getting hit as he threw it, was one of the best plays of his career. He also had another 62-yard TD pass to Davis (one of Davis's best TD catches ever). He threw for 424 yards, which is currently the highest total in his career, despite getting pulled in favor of Case Keenum early in the fourth quarter. This loss was the biggest margin of defeat for the Steelers since 1989. “We just got smashed today,” said Mike Tomlin afterward.

    10) 2018 - Week 17 vs Miami (Result: Win 42 - 17)

    Stats: 224 Passing Yards, 95 Rushing Yards, 3 TD's Passing, 2 TD's Rushing, 1 INT, 65% Completion Percentage, 114.9 Rating

Even though we ended Josh's rookie year by missing the playoffs, this game gave Bills fans so much hope and excitement for the future. Josh came out to prove he could be an efficient passer, checking the ball down, taking short throws, and completing passes at a rate he rarely did in the previous games his rookie season. He continued to run the ball exceptionally well, wracking up nearly 100 yards rushing and two rushing TD's. And he did it all with an offense devoid of talent, throwing to the likes of Zay Jones and Robert Foster. This still stands out as one of Josh Allen's best games and complete performances.

There are so many other games to consider. I left some good ones off the list. This is a great time to be alive as a Bills fan.

Nice list and a nice read, thanks. Want to do an All- Miami list? LOL, he’s really kicked their asses quite a bit and I sure hope he continues to do so…. I think that’s up to Beane though…. And I hope KA looks way better this year….

I think how Elam progresses mentally and Tre White progresses physically from his injury will determine how good our secondary will be this season.

CB is now a position of very good depth with Benford and Jackson able to start if needed.

I still have no idea how they plan to use Taylor Rapp, but he excells against the run and could prevent us from getting run over in Nickel and dime sets.

You are absolutely correct about Elam and White determining our fate but you forgot Hyde & Poyer.

They are just as important and way more iffy at this point.

The good news is if by some miracle everyone stays back there stays healthy we could be really good if KD takes a huge step in 2023-24….

  9. I dunno, this guy seems too good to be true… I hope he comes here and wins a Bills’ contract, I really do.

He could be another Fred Jackson for us, sounds like, but a WR…. But Fred did everything right, everything.

Just like it seems this guy does…. I hope is a Fred Jackson and not a Tim Settle (who also came here highly acclaimed from Washington but as of yet, showed nothing to speak of. Which will it be?

  10. I think the Bills know how to draft corners and that we will be good at corner this year. Of course, we have to hope Tre White makes it most of the way back. Maybe he’ll be even better at some things though? I love Elam and hope the team uses him correctly this year and that he kicks ass. Benford is an excellent prospect.  Dane is a cool 4th or fifth option for sure. We drafted a corner…

    We’re good at corner, imho.

For what it's worth, I think that Davis will work hard this offseason and come back and have a very strong season next year.  While I don't envision 4 TDs every game like he did in the KC playoff game, I do think he'll look more like the #2 everyone hoped he would be last season.  I think he has talent, he's a hard worker, he had a bit of a disappointing season last year, and he's in line to get paid soon.  It's a great confluence of events that should result in a strong season in 2023-24.

I think we’re going to use him more as an afterthought this year. Let defenses forget about him like when he a #4 WR….Then hit him for a TD…. The ball is going to go to Diggs, then Kincaid, then everyone else….

    Torrence, plug and play RG

If that’s true and if he is a dominant RG in the pros. We can move Bates back to left and we’d be in business on the OL…

But fixing our OL depends largely on KD who called way too many time consuming plays. We’ve got to bring back the short passing game, the easier passing game, to the Bills… We need more easier bread and butter plays…

We need to fix all three…. The playbook, the receivers and the line….

I wouldn't be opposed to dumping a #1 draft pick for another weapon for Josh. Tee Higgins comes to mind - the contract would need to be figured out, but that's where Big Baller Beane comes in.

But, of course, realistically, that’s the last thing we need. We need bargain greatness, not another super high-priced player.

We are supposed to getting better through the draft, but we’re just not making it… and we’re broke spending on mediocre free agents. It’s just a mess right now…. I’m sorry….

Outside of Beane trading down, I'm not sure how the Bills expect to have enough picks to invest more into the Defensive Line with draft picks.

    Round 1 Oliver

    Round 1 Rousseau

    Round 2 Epenesa

    Round 2 Basham

    FA Miller

How much more investment does there need to be?

    Coach these guys up.

Impact pass rushers are hard to find in Late Round 1, let alone in the middle rounds.

Resign Lawson, and go with what you have.

Same as running back. Sorry, not enough resources to try and get a better room there, with huge needs at OL, WR, S and probably LB as Edmunds is supposed to test FA.

It’s true, McBeane threw a mountainful of resources towards our DL since inception. Don’t forget DaQuon, Ed and Settle. All big money and/or resources.

And mediocrity is all we have to show for it.

I think if Leslie was given a young Bruce Smith we would have never heard of him. The linemen is Frazier’s D do what they are told. They do not read and react. This often leads to disasters….

I wish we had Wade Philips back as DC…

but even he would need a year to get his boys here.
Maybe more as our cap situation is very dire….

Remember that DL he built here?

He brought in my second favorite Bill of all-time in Ted Washington. He drafted Marcellus Wiley (and even better, MLB Sam Cowart. And even better than that, Antoine Winfield.)

He had an old but still relavent Bruse Smith. He had Hanson too I Billieve.

Plus an up and coming Pat Washington….

Man, now that was a defense!

Definitely the best D we have had in the modern era.

I still can’t accept how stupid Tom Donahoe was…. Although it wasn’t his fault Sam Cowart was the victim of a severe cheap shot.

Tom was incredibly stupid signing Lawson while letting both Winfield and Williams exit in FA….

I remember Marv Levy had major coordinator problems and couldn’t solve them either….

ah…. I’m thru ranting for awhile…. Our situation is very depressing though….

I know many of us are fans of Joe B.  I thought he did a very good job analyzing the Bills potential off-season needs.  You can listen below but I’ll list the 10 big points:

    1. Sean McDermott is going NO WHERE!

He understands the fan disappointment and blames the majority of the loss on McDermott for not having the Bills ready versus Cincinnati.  But he said it’s impressive with how the team overcame so many obstacles to win 14 games.  It would be maddening to move on from McDermotr.

    2. Frazier is staying too.  Same with McDermott.  Talks about how they played poorly defensively against CIN but that the defense overcame many injuries to finish 4th in DVOA and that the defense bailed the Bills out in the WC against Miami.

    3. Dangerous game with Ken Dorsey.  It looks like Dorsey is staying and there is danger.  His 2022 season, while good statistically, also showed little creativity with a failure to adjust and break tendency.  Josh Allen wants him as OC and thinks he’ll get better.  BUT if he doesn’t get better, the Bills might have wasted another season.  The decision to run it back with Dorsey is probably the biggest gamble going into next season.

    4. Beane needs to fix the OL BIGTIME

The Bills OL struggled and switched schemes throughout the season - which is not a good sign.  The OL depth was tested and was often very poor.  Beane will need to do a better job at finding depth.

    5. No “big ticket” free agent signings

Forget any big FA contracts.  Beane said it’s not gonna happen and that Von is the biggest signing this off-season az well.  Bargain shopping only.

    6. Tremaine Edmunds has a chance of re-signing

Beane and McDermott raved about Edmunds.  Joe believes the market will be strong but that the Bills can find a way to bring him back.

    7. The Terrell Bernard draft pick looms large

Bernard was a luxury pick that couldn’t see the field - even in garbage time.  He is not a replacement for Edmunds and going into Year 2, there doesn’t seem to be any role for him on the defense.  Given the talent that was available in round 3 last season and the fact Poyer is likely gone, it would have made more sense to draft a safety last season to take over.  There’s a chance Christian Benford could step in.   Either way it seems like the  3rd round selection could have been allocated much better.

    8. Devin Singletary is likely gone but could be back if there’s no market.

The Bills like Singletary but doesn’t see how the bring him back unless he doesn’t get the type of deal he wants in FA.

    9. Bills believe in Spencer Brown but

    should they?

He was one of the worst rated starters on the team.  Joe doesn’t know how the Bills can possibly give Brown the benefit of the doubt given to how poorly he’s played.  Believes Bills will sign a veteran player like “Rodger Saffold” to complete at RT.

    10. Allen does not believe in his offensive line

Believes there are a LOT of issues with the OL and the Bills need to do more to help Josh Allen.   The actions of Josh Allen throughout 2022 show that Josh doesn’t trust his line, resulting him to bail on plays and not get through his position.  He implied that there could be more moves in OL this season.

    He doesn’t really like his weapons either…. It’s cray-cray to keep KD….just Crazy….

  16. 20 hours ago, peterpan said:

I hate to say it but maybe 30%?  We have been playing poorly for way too long.  Bengals are a good team with a chip on their shoulder.  I think it’s a safe bet that they win.

I might have agreed with you if the bengals were healthy, but they are not.

The question arises; Can our coaches take major advantage of the Bengals missing a whoppping three OL?

I don’t know what our defense is doing half the time. The QB has the ball all day with zero pressure. If that is our tactic again I think the Bengals shred us on those plays.
I think KD has lost Josh Allen as well….

    I’m sorry…. I’m sorry…. But that is what I see…

Josh went from the best player in the NFL…. To someone easily not the best player in the NFL…..

Last spring I didn’t think an OC could have that kind of effect on a vet QB but there’s no denying it.

The Giants are now running our offense and we are…..

    not.

    Just a total freakin’ disaster.

It doesn’t explain why the defense fell too, but that’s what happened.

  17. And, I have no idea of where we could get him, maybe late in the draft?

but it would be a dream to have a back like Josh Jacobs to pair with Cook.

I’m a huge Singletary fan. He does most things well, he could catch a lot better though…. A tough blocker, a great runner, he gets what’s there and then some. He gets first downs when it doesn’t look like he is going to make it….

But to have a true full-size powerback that can also block very well and to pair him up with a guy like Cook….

And then have an OC that runs until the safeties creep up…or at least the D does more to stop the run….

Then hit them with Allen throwing…. Our current receivers might be good enough then….
