He works wonders in the secondary, but with defensive line and our few LBs, the philosophy seems to be less about making impact plays and more about keeping in position, for lack of a better term. Getting tired of hearing about how guys like Ed Oliver and Von Miller are actually playing well because they're staying in their lanes or occupying blockers effectively. That was never a standard for guys like Bruce Smith, Warren Sapp, etc. I'm not expecting everyone to be Reggie White, but I'd like a Phil Hansen.

The fact that McDermott clearly hasn't learned a single thing over the last few years regarding clock management and timeout usage is very troubling. Couple that with the fact that he is a defensive coach whose defense routinely disappears in big games - games where he seemingly can't make adjustments at any point - and you have to ask yourself where he is actually contributing. There are lots of guys who can consistently go 11-6 or 12-5 or whatever with Josh Allen as their QB In a relatively weak division. I'm not sure how much longer he can hang his hat on that.

If they don't win a Super Bowl during the Allen era, it will be a tremendous failure. I know the drought was brutal, but this attitude of "Everything is gravy as long as I get to see them win an occasional playoff game" is maddening.
