He held KC to fewer than 20 points in regulation, and that was after one of his best players suffered possibly the most inopportune freak injury in NFL history. Seems harsh.

He conceded the FG attempt at the end of regulation in order to avoid giving up a huge TD. It was exactly what McD did at the end of the 13 seconds game.

What's even more ridiculous is the Chiefs were one of the worst teams in the league in big plays on offense. They barely hit any bombs this season.

I think your jumping the gun Elam was injured for most of last season I would much rather have Beane get another WR in the draft in the long run it will be cheaper . Plus it's not like CB is a strength of the Bills . Plus knowing our luck he would go to the Titans & the switch would come on & he would be a all pro .

Given how the Bills have developed good players like Millano, Benford, and quite a few others i think they should give him a good chance while being healthy then determine how to move forward with him .

But he was healthy at the end of the yr and the Bills started a gimpy Douglas over Elam. What does that tell u about Elam?

There is a comparison. You only see one side of it.

I'm breaking down there records in the playoffs and who they beat what's wrong with the facts they don't fit your argument? At the end of the day Mcd can't get the job done plain and simple. When I pay someone to paint my house I'm not paying them to paint half of it and that's what Mcd is doing winning in the regular season and not when it matters most.

Okay, we'll call this Corollary One to the Schottenheimer Rule - If one part of the team hasn't performed in the past, that part of the team will continue not to perform in the future unless the coach is changed.  It's the same thing.   You're assuming that the future will be the same as the past, and that the people responsible for the past cannot improve.

People change and get better at their jobs all the time, year after year.

That's why he has next yr if he doesn't get better do u agree we need an upgrade at that point. Let's say we lose again 31-28 in playoffs u keeping him. ?

    The paycut is almost inevitable.

I very, very highly doubt we cut him.

By the way... you guys seem to forget that in the NFL teams can't actually cut players who are recovering from injuries.  In order to cut him, he'd have to pass a physical.  So if people thinking we're doing this to become "CAP compliant," it's not happening before the mid March deadline when the new NFL calendar year starts. And also, if he passes a physical that early... why cut him???  And if he can't pass the physical that early, but does by training camp, you're cutting a healthy player and creating a void you'll have to fill with whatever scraps are leftover from FA or are cut late in TC.

    Good points !

If you're going to get rid of McDermott because he couldn't beat Kansas City, why would you replace him with a guy who got fired because he couldn't beat Kansas City?  It's silly.

Except for the fans of these teams, everyone thinks Shanahan and McDermott are two of the very best coaches in the league.  The only reason to replace them seems to be that some people have created in their minds something I'll call the Schottenheimer Rule, which goes like this:   If your team's coach has been good but hasn't won it all yet, your team's coach never will win.

The Schottenheimer Rule is nonsense made up by people who are frustrated that their team hasn't won.   It's an attempt to make it seem like there is some logic to their desire to scapegoat the head coach.

If the Bills and the Niners fire their head coaches today, those two would be, BY FAR, the two best coaches available in the head coaching market over the past five years.

This isn't a Schottenheimer rule this is real life. Mcd hasn't beaten anyone in the playoffs worth a damn and when he plays a great QB his schemes get eaten like a Bully takes kids lunches at school for a whopping 36.5 pts per game. This isn't an illusion or a figment of our imagination Mcd is not the answer. Just last yr after the Bengals game players on there offense was telling the media how easy it was to beat Mcd defense and they knew exactly what we were doing. I don't know about you but with those numbers 36.5 pts a game against and those words backing those numbers up seems to me like we have a serious coaching problem and hopefully it gets addressed next off-season.

We were ready to run him out on a rail, but then his name stopped getting called which is a good thing for an offensive lineman

Did we find our right tackle?

Yes we did Aaron Kromor has done a great job with this oline and I hope Spencer gets his extension soon. Lock em up baby!

I agree safety is loaded in FA, but it appears to be a very top heavy group. Kyle Dugger is my #1 hope in FA, but even he has an expected $16.5M AAV. If he gets that number remains to be seen, but it's very possible the young good safeties out there (including Winfield and Curl) will be out of our price range.

There's also McKinney, Chinn, Whitehead, Stone & Blackmon just to make a few. Those guys will be in our price range

Come on this is you making excuses for Buffalo’s wins in n the playoffs and justifying another coach who hasn’t done much more than McDermott. You like Shanahan better which is fine, but to make it sound like he is some world beater compared to McDermott is way off the mark

This is what my gut tells me will happen. And it's a good move for both parties.

Tre won't likely see big bucks as a FA. And if he comes back and is able to play I don't know if he's better than Douglas or Benford at this stage of his career. He's likely the #3 boundary CB. The one caveat here is IF he were to come back and IF he's healthy enough to be the #2 CB...a case could be made for the Bills to start the Benford to safety transition they talked about last off season.

That would also IMO depend on Elam taking steps forward and possibly Dane Jackson returning as experienced depth. So a lot in play for a move like this.

I rather have the depth at Corner then to move anyone to safety. Safeties are loaded in free agency and it's a value position just sign 2 new guys for cheap. It's time to find our new dynamic duo at Safety .

I know we all want to address the WR position but I still think the main priority for the team going forward is to re-establish the defensive front around Oliver. To beat Mahomes, You gotta affect the QB. It’s not the sexy pick but you have to keep investing in the D line. We just watched Mahomes win another SB and this time he didn’t have a single 1,000 yrd WR…

3 times vs. Mahomes in the playoffs and I don’t think we have one sack against him. I definitely think we need to add a WR but I don’t believe we should be putting all our chips in that basket. I think Brady is going to have to develop an offense that can get more out of the passing game and Diggs.

Bpa is the way to go if u have a safety that's rated a 8-10 on the board and a wr or de that's a 5-10 then u draft the safety. We've made to many mistakes in the draft just drafting for need. The Bills need difference makers whoever they see on the board that they can see reaching that potential then take them i don't care if it's a RB or a Safety just go get some stars on this team.

We've seen plenty variations of champions and other then QB there's not really a definitive position that stands out as must have maybe other then pass rushers. Otherwise we seen teams with great Wrs win and average Wrs win and great CBs win and average CBs win I can go on and on. The thing is having 3-5 difference makers that's been the common denominator

Well yes, that was my second point. If that same scenario comes up again I’m pretty sure the approach will be different because now McD has lived it and dwelled on it. He doesn’t think quick enough on his feet to realize what’s best in situational moments. After the 2:00 min warning it was 4 down territory and they should’ve been bleeding clock. The moment he decided on a FG with 1:54 remaining the game was lost, no matter if Bass hit it or not. If you asked him again today if he'd do anything different that drive, regardless if Bass made or missed the FG, I’m sure he’d have another strategy in mind.

McSnail! Learns as he goes at this rate we'll be champs in about 20yrs

There is that. And just what happened from the 8:30- 2:40 to change his mind? Shanahan made a similar brutal mistake by taking the ball first in OT. This ensures,if you score, that Pat Mahomes has 4 Downs on every possession!

Is McClapper gambling that Mahomes, a 15-3 QB in the Playoffs and driving at the GOAT is gonna ***** it up? How many times do you need to be whipped by KC in the Playoffs, before you think differently?

Even if the D rises from being a total sieve in 2024, I still wouldn’t give Mahomes 30 seconds and 0 TOs! You need to think differently. If you can’t, you’re incompetent to what’s in front of you in real time and need to be cashiered!

Josh Allen is not going to wait forever! He wants to win Lombardi!

Shannahan also made a horrible mistake by not sticking with the run after picking up 5yds on first down with under 2 mins to go just needing a FG to win it. He could've easily called a jet sweep to Deebo or just given the ball to his all world running back and told him to win this game for them. Instead he threw a pass in the flat to Kittle and the rest is history. The best plays to run vs those zero blitzes is either a run right up the gut just like Ty Johnson did or a screen play to the Wrs or running bks. The 49ers let the Chiefs off the hook same as the Bills.
