The bills had the most grindiest offense in the NFL other than KC and yet Allen still put up borderline MVP number. Now imagine if defenses have to defend the entire field. The only way this goes badly for the Bills is: A) the bills don’t add a deep threat B) Bills add a deep threat and said player is either injured or ineffective
-
They own his base salary which is guaranteed for this season but not the signing bonus.
-
I think he might be now
-
The thing that bothered me about Diggs was how he’d take himself off the field on 3rd downs
-
Hes cleared next season as I think dead cap gets accelerated to the season you trade him
-
If you throw in the bills 28th? High teens I think
-
What bonus? The bills already paid his signing bonus, and they paid his 23 roster bonus. He doesn’t have any further bonus money left that’s not been prorated
-
I believe this is a trade that helps both clubs. Houston has deep threats and by getting Diggs, and likely converting him to a slot to pair with Tank Dell - they now have tremendously gifted intermediate guys and an elite deep threat in Nico Collins. For Buffalo, they had an excess of guys who could run intermediate and underneath stuff with Shakir, both TEs and now Curtis Samuel. Diggs was the best of them, but the bills are better served with moving one of them and replacing with a true deep threat

The bills were never gonna use 11 draft picks, and losing a 6th is losing a player who’s odds of making the game day roster was incredibly low
-
Exactly
-
Hes 31 and his cap hit was gonna be 27.3M next season, meaning the Bills would have cut him and saved 5M or attempted to trade him and likely gotten considerably less than a 2nd rounder back. If the Bills were able to get a 2nd out of this that’s a tremendous business by Beane
-
Depends on his bonus structure. he signed a 21M bonus on signing, which prorated over 6 years, so that’s 10.5M he’s on the hook for. I think they also restructured his 23 salary as well. His 24 salary became guaranteed after Mar 18th, but that’s gonna be on Houston. I’m sure im missing something but my quick math suggests the bills save ~8-10M of the cap as his cap hit would be 27.8M, and I think only about 12-15 is bonus money that the bills prorated

Does Josh Allen still work as hard in the offseason?

On weight of the entire season and playoffs, he was the best QB in the league this past season -
Gabe filled the role exactly as you’d want him to. The problem was that when John brown left, all he had was Diggs as 2nd deep threat, and the bills lacked a true a slot weapon when they tried to fill Cole Beasleys role with Isiah McKenzie. So the Bills became a bit stagnant in route concepts, and having a rookie OC didn’t help either. Last half of last season, when it because apparent that Diggs had lost a bit of his top end speed (he’s still got elite quickness and acceleration), Davis was the lone deep threat on the roster. He was never good enough to be a guy who’s gonna beat a corner and over the top safety help at the same time. He’s not that kind of burner. With Curtis Samuel in as a secondary deep threat along with being intermediate and underneath, and a plethora of true intermediate/middle route runners, then someone exactly like Davis is what the bills need to take this offense to the next level - which is an elite offense. Ladd McKonkey, Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy, Leagette…some real options in this draft of dudes who can win deep. The reach pick would be Rome Odunze, who to me is the souped up version of Gabe Davis

Is drafting Diggs replacement a priority in this draft?

Where are you getting that number? Diggs has widely been consider a top 5 WR since coming to Buffalo -

Think you’re hugely undervaluing Diggs here. Safeties. Both of them. Neither up to the standard that id like anyways. But I’m sure McDermott can make it work -

Jefferson was the 22nd pick of the draft. the Vikings purely got lucky -

For example, the Seahawks have DK Mercalf in his final yea of a 3 year extension (after this season). He needs to get extended again. If the Bills offered a 2nd (after this season for next years draft), the Hawks probably take it because not only do they get a pick, but they get out of having to pay DK. Meanwhile the Bills would have a prime Deep threat for 3-4 more years - at a premium price that’s completely worth it -

How do you think the Bills got Diggs? There’s enough GMs out there who think you can always find WR1s in the first round, that they don’t wanna pay their current WRs. I still think stud WRs are well worth paying, and I think you can find them in the trade market and draft. -

No. You can also trade for ready made WRs -
If he’s settled on Edwards & Rapp being our starters (which, to be clear, terrifies me) then he doesn’t have much FA business left Beane is killing it The problem with DT is that we have a single legit pass rusher from the interior in Oliver and we really need someone who can do that behind him. If Jer’zahn Newton is there when the bills are picking in the first I’d hope they seriously consider him

Not for nothing: https://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/2013/03/penn_state_football_who_is_aus.html “Penn State defensive tackle Austin Johnson is a hot name during the second week of the Nittany Lions' spring practice. He's emerged as a candidate to start alongside senior DaQuan Jones on the interior of Penn State's defensive line.”
