IDK what award McDermott should win but he needs to win something for keeping this defense functional with spit and gum.
The bills kept the Steelers to 17. Most of that was played with starting DL (which includes Von’s carcass running around), and behind it 2nd - 5th stringers.

In the NFL, you gotta be talented and lucky to win a SB. To be a consistent contender you need an elite coach.

Not gonna happen anytime soon. Legal process will take months. And with both alleged victim and Von saying nothing of the sort happened, neither the Bills nor NFL have any basis for suspending him without a lot more hard evidence.
More than likely these charges are going to be dropped
(which doesn't preclude fans from thinking Von is toxic...this is his 3rd public gross moment that may or may not be illegal)

A lot to digest from that one, and with this thread at 54 pages, looks like I've already missed a lot of the digesting.
- I liked the Bills' offensive gameplan in the first half- I did not like the Bills' offensive gameplan for most of the second half
- The Chiefs had better second half adjustments than the Bills. This has been a trend this season.
- Below average year for the Chiefs offense or not, it's still impressive to hold them to 17 points at Arrowhead without Milano, Daquan, Tre, Hyde (for a half), etc.
- AJ Epenesa's loss was felt. He's turned into a good pass rusher, and once he left the game, our pass rush took a hit
- That said, thank God for Leonard Floyd and Ed Oliver, who should both get game balls for yesterday's win
- Josh Allen likes running into people. Let him do it. It gets him fired up and loosens him up. How great was that TD run?!
- Josh Allen -- Super human. Unreal. That sideline fadeaway pass in the 4th quarter? My goodness.
- I thought it was weird to go away from Cook after the opening drive of the second half the way they did. Should've stuck with the hot hand
- That said, it is SO refreshing to see them actually use the pass-catching talents of Cook instead of only throwing it to him on checkdowns
- The Wheel route adjustment up the sideline to Cook was all Allen. It was not drawn up that way
- The wide receivers got shut down yesterday. Good thing we had Cook, Kincaid, and Knox
- How insanely relieved did McDermott look when the Bills stopped the Chiefs on 4th and sealed the game? Woah.
For all of the nuance we can pick through, at the end of the day, it was a Bills win when they direly needed it.
The funny thing is that the game didn't really look all that different than recent Bills games this season. Stretches of great offense, stretches of stagnant offense, moments where the D made big plays, moments where they gave up big plays. Josh missing an open Gabe in the end zone at the end. The Bills taking the lead at the end and then the other team getting the ball and driving it down field and scoring. Groundhog's day. Deja Vu all over again. The only difference is, this time the OTHER team messed up, and the Bills were the beneficiaries. The Chiefs out-Bills'd the Bills.
Imagine having that must-win game -- which the Bills dominated the majority of -- end in Chiefs victory on a miracle lateral play like that on the friggin day that Frank Wycheck passes away? It would've been absolutely crushing. It would've destroyed me. It would have played on an endless loop on NFL Network for a full week, back to back with the Music City Miracle. Thank GOODNESS Toney was Offside. Instead, the Bills rallied around their coach, stuck together, played for each other, and did enough to win.
For all the nuance, all the detail, all the coulda shoulda wouldas, and despite the fact that it ultimately looked just like recent games this season...the bottom line is that the Bills won. In this league, that's all that really matters.Think you need to give the Chiefs defense a ton of credit for the 2nd half offensive struggles. They dominated their match ups in the secondary and along the trenches

Probably the worst match up of the season for Buffalo. Dak is playing at an extremely high level, the Cowboys WRs are all cooking, and the Bills have a bunch of zone corners, fairly average backers in coverage, and outside of 43 straight up BAD cover backers, and precariously on the edge of washed safeties.
Like if the Cowboys play well that's pretty much 35+ and there's nothing McDermott can do about that.
Gonna be down to Allen putting up 350 and 4

Somehow the chiefs have managed to put together one of the best defenses in the league. They were winning battles up front all day and had quality coverage behind it.
I think the OC could have leaned on the run game a bit more, but the struggles were understandable

At this point it looks like winning out is likely the only shot we have of making the playoffs. That would include road wins over KC and Miami. Not to mention a tough home game against the Cowboys.
I will say that since 2020 the team has rallied after one of these mid/late season unlikely losses -- all of which were last-minute or overtime losses. In 2020 they went undefeated after "Hail Murray", in 2021 they went undefeated after the overtime loss against the Bucs, in 2022 they went undefeated after the overtime loss against the Vikings. Recall that the 2021 loss to the Bucs was also our 6th loss of the year, and things looked dire at that point. Then they rebounded and went into the playoffs strong. Anything short of that should spell the end of McD, I would think.
So to be clear one can win 46 games and 4 playoff wins over 4 years, and should be fired for going 8-9 and missing the playoffs in an injury riddled season?
For that you want to risk having the next Frank Reich or even Ron Rivera?

To be clear, the Bills have lost 6, 3, 6, 3 games the last 4 seasons. You can not claim a pattern of losing when you win 10, 13, 10, and 13 games. This season is clearly an anomaly and if your ague that it’s an argument against reality. McDermott wins football games.
The question is really about what he can do against superior football teams with superior talent. That’s basically where he comes up short over his history in Buffalo. Can he get over the hump and have the bills win games against superior talent? Unlikely. That’s also true of 99% of the coaches out there.
Almost every year we end up with a Super Bowl winner that’s either the most talented, or near the most talented with enough great combos to overcome any talent deficiencies.
There’s only 3 coaches whom I think can be one of those coach combos. Andy Reid, Kyle Shannahan and Sean McVay.
