There has always been gambling in sports.  Now that it's legal, it can be monitored.

England has had sports betting for a long time.

I believe sports will coexist with betting and be just fine.

We seem to be inclined towards addictive behavior as a nation. We have the highest rate of Drug disorder PER CAPITAL in the world and it's not really close. We are the largest illegal drug market on the planet.

Gambling is a problem and it's going to get worse

Depends how much he is on the field. If the last 2 years are any indication, it won't be very much...especially going to a team that is extremely questionable in terms of doing things to ensure players are kept as healthy as possible.

Have a feeling he'll find a way to stay on the field this season

Ravens outgained us 416-273. Went 7/10 on 3rd down and 1/1 on 4th down.

Without Lamar gifting us a couple of turnovers there's no way we win the game. Even winning the turnover margin 3-0 it came down to Mark Andrews dropping an easy 2 pt conversion.

you know Josh was gonna put that B word in the end zone with 1:30 or whatever left

at what point of the season were they the best team in the league and why should they have beaten Buffalo?

They had the #1 offensive EPA by a quite a margine, and defensively they were #8.

Teams with the lead run the ball especially when they are really good at running the ball.

In what way did the Ravens outplay the bills?  The Bills controlled the game at the line of scrimmage, The defense got takeaways, the offense did not commit a turnover.   That is playoff winning football.  The Ravens did the opposite.

Maybe "outplayed" is the wrong term here, but Ravens' potential for scoring was higher in that game.

The vibes of that game felt like Buffalo just trying to contain the Ravens and just survive.

But to your point, that's just often playoff football.

And I should also give credit to the Bills coaching staff which I thought did a phenomanel job that night

That's going to be on the new WRs we added to make that happen.  There is a reason we didn't move the ball all that well in the early matchup with this last year.  We didn't have a single guy that could create separation one on one and they knew it.  They got up in our WRs faces, brought the safeties down and dared us to beat them down the field and we couldn't do it because we didn't have the talent at WR.  There's a reason we went out and took a flyer on Cooper.  It was painfully obvious we needed more.  As it turns out, while it looks like the wheels may have fallen off Cooper last year, he was good enough to make a couple of great contested catches down the field that opened up things just enough for the offense to get back on track.  The Playoff game went a little better on offense, but it's not like we went out there and moved the ball at will.  Make no mistake about it.....it wasn't easy for the offense either game against them last season.  I do have higher expectations for our WR group with the additions of Palmer and Moore, but they have to prove they can beat teams down the field in order to force teams to back their safeties off again.  If we can't create separation on a regular basis, it's going to be tough going once again.

We got outplayed in the playoff game, but also played very conservatively on offense as a strategy to protect a defense that was wildly outmatched.

Bills had 20 first downs that game, ran the ball 36 times, and threw it just 22

Yup they have had a lot of talent and they have absolutely done squat with all of it. Maybe that will change this year for them.

It's kinda nuts. They were the best team in football last season. Should have beaten us. Would have beaten the pants off KC and SB would have been a lot of fun

Multiply All pros and pro-bowlers all over that team. Yet when we have people thinking we can get better at WR this fan base and management loses their crap. Getting good player is getting good players period. You don't stop trying because you had a great record the year before. Jmo. Not that it's worth anything.

I don't think we need more at WR either. I do believe we need more experienced blue chip talent at corner and Safety

Baltimore is just insanely loaded with talent all across their roster

like they are blatantly the best team on paper and I'm not sure it's remotely close.

This is probably the best roster I've seen in a pretty decent chunk of time

There's a reason for that. There's two Starters on the Boundary and one starter in the Nickel. Teams don't have legitimate star quality caliber 4th CB's bc no one like Alexander is signing to be a Backup and you don't spend a 1st Round Pick on a guy to be a Backup before you even get to Training Camp.

ah this is where I disagree because I think Hairston needs to get functionally stronger before he should become an every down starter. He's going to be a liability in the run game, he's going to struggle taking on WR blockers....he just needs to get stronger, and more durability that goes with it.

Ideally, he's playing both inside/out (he's excellent in Zone) on passing downs.

  12. 5 minutes ago, BillsFanForever19 said:

You have to cut them first. A 5th Round Pick (Hancock) and the #1 Pick in Round 6 (Strong) are no guarantees to be able to be brought back on the PS. I could easily see one or both scooped up if cut. Even if we were able to get them back, they could be poached at any time on the PS.

You're playing with fire releasing Rookies before Late Round 6 or 7. We've never cut a player we've Drafted before Round 6 as a Rookie. I don't see any way that they Drafted both of those guys with no plan in mind and would move on from both.

And again, even if I subscribed to that, that would mean we spent a 1st Round Pick on Maxwell Hairston to not really see the field unless there's an injury. Jaiire Alexander isn't signing with a team that he has to "compete" for a Starting job. We'd have to give him the starting gig or he'd sign somewhere else that would guarantee him that.

We also have never had 4 corners the caliber of Benford, Johnson, Hairston (projected) and theoretically Jaire Alexander.

  13. 16 minutes ago, BillsFanForever19 said:

We may have tried to get him. But we obviously pivoted to spending a 1st Round Pick on Maxwell Hairston and signing Tre White as veteran insurance (not to mention also Drafting Dorian Strong and Jordan Hancock, who may or may not fall under the Safety Depth chart). I think the ship has sailed on whatever our interest in Alexander was.

The CB room is crowded now as is. To bring him in would mean Maxwell Hairston would be playing the Kaiir Elam role of 3rd Outside CB that doesn't really see the field outside of injury (and may be a healthy scratch like Elam was for his lack of Special Teams).

On top of that, with Benford, Alexander, Hairston, and Taron as locks - that would leave 1 spot (maybe 2) for all of Tre White, Dorian Strong, Ja'Marcus Ingram, and Dane Jackson. Possibly even Jordan Hancock if they decide he's only a Nickel CB.

That's called competition, and they have the practice squad for the rooks

The real question is would you rather have this guy or a better starting safety?  IMO, our safeties are in greater need of an upgrade.

There are no safeties available who would be a definite upgrade over our starters.

Cant say that about Jaire who would walk into a starting spot across Benford

I don't see how it makes any sense for him to play in Buffalo.

    1. you just paid benford

    2. you just invested a 1st rounder in Max

    3. Jaire probably isn't signing for 1 year

So if you sign him, you basically are benching your first round pick for multiple seasons

Sub packages. You’d see all 4 of Hairston, Benford, Alexander and Johnson on occasion.

and you could also argue that Hairston is better off in nickel and dime packages as he gets his play strength up

  15. I think the Bills will be better on defense, and likely be a bit more aggressive in their coverage schemes - they seemed to be pretty intentional about adding speed and explosiveness.

Because of that I think the Bills will be intentional about being more explosive and pass oriented on offense. For all the points they scored, the Bills were one of the higher run teams in the league, and inspite of all those explosive plays, often ended up gridning first downs to get down field. I think McDermott looked at his defensive personell last season and asked the offense to do more to protect that defense. I don't think that's gonna be neccesary this season

If the emphasis is on the journey then there's not much point in a destination.  Would you like me to remove Burrows numbers too?  I'm sure with enough finagling, we can get that 24 down to 19.

I find the joy in the journey, while the destination is the bonus.

The drought taught me that just competing for the top spot is what I really want. I value the 18 weeks of joy and sadness that comes from being a fan of a team that has legitimate aspirations for the end of season tournament.

The worst thing I can feel as a sports fan isn’t pain or sadness - it’s apathy.

That’s just my personal view point. I’m someone who would rather be consistently good year in year out, than randomly be great and then years of crap. I also think it’s harder to be consistently good as well, especially in the salary cap era. That to me is a true testament or greatness

That's also a great point. Since 2020 we've played in 12 playoff games. We've given up a grand total of 290 points.  Thats 24.16 per game. Josh 9 times out of 10 will carry this team offensively and hold up his end of the bargain.  But once we stop playing afce teams and the playoff caliber rises, our defense falters. It’s ok to enjoy our regular season magnificence.  I'm just disappointed our defense has yet to rise up other than one 17-3 Ravens game.  Is this a form of wasting Josh’s "once in a generation" talents?....yes it is.

What's the average when not playing Pat Mahomes

  20. He ain’t hurting anyone and everything there looks consensual.

If they wanna party, let em party

(of course maybe from the Pats POV he should be either rehabbing or practice and those are likely the only two good options at this moment in time when OTAs are going on)
