  1. i need to see Mallett in Locker-like (i.e., vs. Nebraska-like D) circumstances first. last saturday was too easy.. even though it was Georgia, it looked like a walkthrough on most of his big passes. he goes for 300+ and 3TD's against alabama i'll be impressed.
  2. unless he gets hurt again, Bell is our LT. he's played pretty well, cut down on his penalties, and still doesn't have a full season yet. if we're in top 5, it will be a QB then... not a RT. can get that at pick #33. =)
  3. if the Bills pick #1, watch NO underclassmen come out, haha... but jokes on them if there is no 2011 football, cuz then we'd get #1 pick again. =) actually i just scared myself. with possibly no 2011 football, wouldn't many juniors stay in school? this could be the worst draft in decades if that's the case, just when we have the first pick. ugh.
  4. They don't depend on it though. They may lose money, but not that much, relatively. They did not make their money on football, and they don't need football to remain billionaires. I don't know if higher salaries will be passed on to fans in all cases, as i'm sure owners are already getting what they think they can. But owners are used to operating at a profit and will do what it takes to remain that way... so a team that makes less overall revenue, like the Bills, will have to move if this area cannot support the higher ticket prices other cities can supply to cover the higher salaries. right now Bills make profit. but what if salaries go up 50 million a year? would buffalo still be profitable?
  5. they bumped, not rocked, cua the ball was long gone... when SJ first slowed Matthews was pretty far away. maybe that is why he stopped his route. maybe that is why he thought it was the proper thing to do. i don't know routes. i do know they adjust sometimes based on coverages and observations. i just think it's ridiculous to think he will bail on a crossing route when that's what he's been doing all along and what got him to be a starting or #3 WR in the NFL. sounds like he'd be open even when he isn't open.
  6. just read that parrish started GB game too... so it's not punishment. just part of Chan's starting people based on "packages" of plays... like Spiller starting 1 game, and Lynch another, and probably Fred another.
  7. stevie had arms fully extended on that play. it's on tape. what he did was start to stop the route for whatever reason, then pick it back up when he saw the ball thrown ahead of him. probably a mistake nonetheless on his part, but he makes most of his catches on similar routes... i doubt on this one for some reason he got scared when the LB was like 50 feet away.
  8. it's a little hard to believe that someone who killed dogs basically for fun, changed who he is after getting caught. i'd keep an open mind if i ever met him, but i don't miss the fact i don't have to try and root for him. rooting so hard for for guys who make million and don't care about you is silly enough when you think about it, so i'd prefer to do so with guys i at least think are decent human beings.
  9. who says Brohm is bad? the same people who declared Trent the hands down winner based on early spring practices... only to change their minds, admitting they were WRONG, after just 2 games. if they were wrong about one thing they could be wrong about another. just as college is a different game from pros, practice is a different thing from games.
  10. line performed better in run game when Howard came in, for whatever reason. overall, i did not think the line was physically overmatched all that often. wood was bull-rushed once. Green was run around once. Meredith pushed back once. they need to come together (or get better coaching) but they blocked ok for the most part, when they knew who to block.
  11. Lynch is better than Brandon Jackson i think... he certainly looked better sunday, what did BJ have... 2.9 yard average or something? against the Bills? not impressive. meanwhile, Hawk plays only run downs and makes something like 10 million dollars over next 2 seasons. i doubt the Pack would be broken up about losing a part time LB that makes top dollar.
  12. Again, if you are a rebuilding team with 2 good running backs who need the ball more as it is... would you trade a 3rd or 4th round pick for Marshawn Lynch? I think very very few people would think that was a good idea. If not, you should trade Lynch for a pick. It's not that he isn't any good... it's that it's better to try and get 2 deep somewhere else than be 3 deep at RB... b/c it's a lot less likely we'll need a 3rd RB that a player somewhere else over next couple years.
  13. Dockery was awful in 2008.. the worst LG play i've ever seen. Levitre is better. Howard is better. D.Bell held his own last game... I had no problems with his play. Walker is definitely better than Green. The problem was Butler was just as good, so Langston became expendable... until Butler got hurt after 2 games. Oops, guess they shoulda kept Walker to be a 5 million dollar backup. Hindsight.
  14. Lynch runs tough, but time has shown Jackson the better back because he has better vision. and like it or not we drafted Spiller. even if Lynch is "good", we just don't need 3 good backs on a rebuilding team. it's a waste. put it this way: if we did not have Lynch, but had SPiller and Jackson, would be be trading a 3rd or 4th round pick to get a 3rd RB? Of course not. We'd all be saying WTF did we do that??? So Bills should have taken that if offered. Bell signing with Philly seems to indicate they are not considering the trade though, or else they woulda got work to Bell and his agent before he left.
  15. possibly.. but why didn't he get blocked? sometimes it's hard to believe that Tackle would be that dumb or that poorly coached. Is this not something TE should see pre-snap and either know what to do or communicate to his line to account for Matthews? for TE to bootleg right into an unblocked pass rusher is confounding and seems to indicate some miscommunication at least... possibly a poor read. wish we could get more answers on specific questions from coaches... the proper people should be blamed for these things! =)
  16. perhaps. and it may end up being a costly decision to stay in school. looks like they will not be in the rose bowl championship picture after all. i think the big 3 all still bear monitoring for bills, and i have not seen Luck even play yet this year.
  17. i know Mallett had a good game, but i was not impressed. it is impossible to compare him standing upright and relaxed in the pocket on most plays, throwing to wide open WR's... to Locker going against Nebraska's D. that's why it's hard to project college QB's.
  18. funny cause i saw the receivers open during the full speed realtime play.. then cross shows on the top view slo mo that they were covered by rolling it to exactly the point when the WR's stopped running around and GOT covered... because their routes were essentially over and they didn't know where to go next yet. they WERE open. it's a windown in the NFL, as people are saying. there aren't going to be too many plays were receivers are just running down the field uncovered indefinitely. you need to a have a plan, pre-snap... if you get your 1-on-1 then you make the throw at the right time, or the right place. that's what Fitz will do, and hopefully it will not be at the receiver's feet when he does. =)
  19. biggest problem in first game was offensive line. but against pack there were receivers running free. there were issues on the O-line but actually most of them held there own. a couple missed assignments on Matthews, but sometimes QB will read that in advance. Wood - bull rushed on one play. Howard - pretty good actually. Bell - not bad at all. Green - ran around once, maybe a missed assignment (who knows), but better overall than week 1. Hangartner - held his own. Was there a play or two they got to TE with 4? yeah. But often they sent 6 or 7. one play in particular (can't remember if it was a sack or the int grounding) there were 7 packers mixed with our line, which means only 4 in coverage. we actually held them off and TE still couldn't find a man to throw to. he's got to be able to find the 1-on-1's, possibly even pre-snap, but he rarely does.. i think that's probably what got him benched. he never sees ANYTHING before it happens.
  20. i like Troup.. but i was thinking/hoping Bills would take him in the 3rd. maybe not, but i would have risked it for a QB. Clausen, despite his abrasiveness and lingering toe injury, will have a far better career than any current Bills QB, I will wager.
  21. meredith does play a lot! especially with Bell not going the whole game yet. and he was not good. he got run over by Clay Matthews on one of the sacks. Green is bad at pass protection but i don't think Jamon looked particularly good at anything, unfortunately. i agree going forward you could keep giving him playing time since he has more upside, but for now he's mainly subbing for Bell...poorly.
  22. actually his preseason was mediocre at best. Hamdan was the Bills best QB in last preseason.. can't say the same for Brown. unfortunately, if the Bills were looking to trade Lynch, losing Bell probably does hurt. he could have made the team if we didn't already have 3 "bigtime" backs, and surely the plan was to bring him up if we did trade Lynch. if eagles really signed him, it was probably no coincidence.
  23. some of those picks weren't bad... mcgahee was not a *good* pick, but we got some production and later traded him for some value anyways. Poz is not great, but as a 2nd rounder decent qualifies as an alright pick. kelsay was an okay pick as a 2nd rounder as well (despite being a little overpaid and playing more over the slightly better Denney). Wood was a good pick i think... and McKelvin not too bad. we don't get great players unfortunately, but we do get a lot of use out of most of them. not too many just plain couldn't play in the NFL... most started full season or more. that's something (though guessing no one is actually looking for anything positive at this point).
  24. well, a large contingent felt the best way towards a true turnaround was to bottom out... so those people appear to be getting their wish. they may not get it right anyways (picking a franchise QB in top 5) but at least it will provide some hope for a while.
  25. well, you could say Levitre is a great NFL player because Mayock had him ranked good coming out of college... ...or you could watch him play and see the results. at best, there was no dropoff. which is actually "using your head"?
