You are pretty much right on IMO, there is a difference from the QBs perspective coming out of college from a spread offense or an offense where the QB doesn't go under centre. Footwork might have to be worked on but the biggest difference is in play action. Play action requires a QB to turn his back to the line and then turn back around to make a throw. Apparently, it isn't something that some QBs can do without a lot of practice, you have to see the play without looking right at it. Think of Montana, he could play with a blind fold on and still hit a streaking Rice down the field. Other than that, accuracy, arm strength, blocking, tackling, high motor and general football sense should translate. NFL execs fall in love with metrics, so and so is this tall, this big and this fast but if they can't do the above they will essentially never be a good pro. I guess the other knock on the spread is that really good college QBs and other players that run it tend to be on dominating teams, where their OL is way better thus giving time to the WR ( who are also better ) time to get open and the QB plays pitch and catch to wide open guys and when they do run they have a RB that is also superior. A player on one of those teams might not be able to play in the more balanced and competitive NFL where everyone is a great player.

I wanted Clausen, especially in the second. I am not going to run from his recent crappy performance, Carolina sucks, their owner is pulling the NFL corporate line in letting players move before the pending strike. No excuses though, he is rookie, has no one to throw to, lame duck coach and a team that's plummeting but he has to play better. I haven't seen much of him but he is making rookie mistakes like staring down recievers, something that, with experience, will go away. This time next year, I believe he will have made major strides. I won't be back defending him when he starts in a couple of weeks and actually has a good game. Basing what a player might be after a few starts in his rookie season is assinine.

In a rare feat for an NFL game, the Jags didn't have one punt against the Bills. The Bills made the Jags look like a team on the rise.
-
Given Fitz's brain power, he would be the one to split the atom. I want to be positive but...I really can't see how the Bills win this one. Wait, a couple of special teams tds and a few timely turnovers... I am sorry, I am a walk on the sunnyside of the street kinda guy.

I hear you but in this case there would be at least 5-7 teams that would love to have Kolb, imo. Actually, that number is probably right for Vick as well. This isn't a case of dumb Bills fans who want to get a guy because he happened to have a good game today. That and the probability of one of the Eagles QBs being available next year make it plausible.

He has started 5 games in the NFL and thrown for over 1500 yards and 9 tds vs 5 ints. Pretty impressive. http://www.nfl.com/players/kevinkolb/profile?id=KOL105037 Rob Johnson started one game for the Jags when the Bills made the move to get him. G GS Comp Att Pct Yds Avg TD Int Sck SckY Rate Att Yds Avg TD FUM Lost 1997 Jacksonville Jaguars 5 1 22 28 78.6 344 12.3 2 2 6 29 111.9 10 34 3.4 1 Obviously the trade didn't work out, when GB went for Favre it was based on what he did in a practice apparently. You never really know, I guess that is why I am not a scout. Although, looking at the Bills pro and college scouting over the years I honestly don't know how I could be any worse, which is sad.

Kolb signed a 12.26 million over two years extension in the spring. All of which is garaunteed, 10 million and change was signing bonus. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5148880

I can't see them both being on the same team for the next two years. The eagles can use the pick/s they get for either one and use it a leverage or to get rid of a higher priced veteran ( Peters..?, just kidding I have no idea who that player might be ) That is why NFL teams covet these draft picks, outside of the top 15 or so picks the rest of the draftees are cheaper and allow you to let higher priced players go.
-
One of them will be gone by the start of next year, Vick has played well and is cheaper ( for now, I guess they would have to renegotiate a longer term deal for Vick ) Vick is only 30 and has shown that he might actually be better than he was with Atlanta. You can get a 1st or 2nd for Kolb, I have no idea what you would get for Vick but it might be less but who knows. As I said, they won't be keeping both of them, I will avoid the Vick to Bills discussion as it has been done to death and it usually gets into his personality defects.

I think the Eagles, if they decide to trade him, would want a 1st. Two questions for the board, is Kolb a better bet than this years draft class and does Reid go back to Vick?

For those that want to draft something other than QB
agardin replied to drewfla's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Draft the best player available but there is an old saying...potential franchise Qbs trumps all. The best player last years draft was Suh and he looks awesome in Detroit. Rams needed a QB and had to draft Bradford. The team was sold and the franchise was suffering, Bradford helped fill the stadium. QB 8 Bradford, Sam ACT TDS 7 INT 8 YDS 1,357 RTG 69.3 STL The Rams are winning because of their D ( the detroit game aside) if you take out the Detroit game they are a top ten D in the league http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&defensiveStatisticCategory=GAME_STATS&conference=ALL&role=OPP&season=2010&seasonType=REG&d-447263-s=TOTAL_YARDS_GAME_AVG&d-447263-o=1&d-447263-n=1 I am not knocking Bradford because he is doing reasonably well for a rookie but if Fitz was on the Rams they would likely have the same record or better. If there is a franchise QB draft him, if not, then fill with the best available player. Need and position always play apart but lets face it we have holes almost everywhere. I guess that is a good question. Knowing what we think we know now who would you take Suh or Bradford? -

Am I missing something? Apparently there will be a draft, once a player is drafted his rights would be retained by that team. There would be no OTAs or mini camps or pay cheques. Is that correct, if so there would be no impetus for a kid to declare, unless they thought that the strike or lock out at that point would be resolved in time for the upcoming season whereby the cheques would start to roll in. Again, if I am missing something let me know.

everything works great for me, thanks for the link. makes you wonder why the NFL bothers with blackouts as most people have on line access these days. for volume there is a horizontal cone shaped icon next to the line free and unlimited, yours might be on mute. -
PLEASE come out Andrew Luck

That is OK the Bills can pick him with their first overall pick the next year. Just kidding....I hope. -

If he really doesn't want to come to Buffalo then he better hope other teams pass us on the race for the bottom. If not he could declare after the draft and be part of the supplemental draft, Brian Bosworth style. The ball is in his court, I have no idea as to what his intentions are but I really hope the Bills don't get screwed on this, although in hindsight losing out to Bosworth was a great move. Note: Bosworth was offered a contract by the Colts so I guess the Bills never would have drafted him anyway -

I will try to find it on the net as well, I can't help but think I may have a problem when it comes to the Bills. But you know what they say ' Rehab is for quitters' -
This thread turns up every now and then and I have always said that the guy has earned the right to try out. There are guys in the league that have done some pretty nasty stuff as adults, there is a big difference between a 16 year old and a 26 year old. It isn't about the fact that the Bills could likely use him that I feel this way, I just feel that he has paid a heavy price for the incident. By every account I have read, he would have a legion of coaches, social workers and team mates that would vouch for him and he hasn't been in trouble since. Sign him, put him on Oprah and all will be fine.

You are right about the starts and he did have the completion %, I wonder why the author missed him, especially given his status at the time of the article. I should send him a email and ask.

Peter King Weekend Pickoff
agardin replied to FightinIrishBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read King's article and I do enjoy them. He is, by his own admission, terrible at predicting wins or fantasy players. You could make living betting against his picks. Makes you wonder why SI uses him in that fashion. That being said, I think the Bills win this week.
