  1. Thank you. Personally, I wouldn't want this to happen since it would most likely cost draft picks and we need them all, but if Nix really likes Bradford then I'll trust him. We better get a good LT in FA then if that's the route we are going to take, unless we want to get our guy in the 2nd.

  2. I know, I know...you all want links...but take this into consideration....

All the teams that made the playoffs had average to above average Offensive Lines.

Buffalo was way below average due to all the injuries sustained.

If your QB is getting hit on a 5 step drop consistently before he hits step 5. How do you expect him to be effective?

If he is constantly being harrassed, he will constantly dump it off.

I highly doubt TE, RF, and BB all have a similar checkdown attitude. But if you keep getting rear ended, you are going to alter your approach.

So, in my personal opinion, Buffalo will NOT draft a QB in the top 5 rounds of the draft. They will, however, take 1 OT in the first round, a DT in the 2nd round, and then stock up on backup players for OT and LBs during the next 3 rounds.

oh yeah...i know i dont have many 'posts', but i tend to read these and not reply the 1 liners like most.

I think like you. I would rather take a LT in the first to help any QB stay on his feet. Hopefully, the Bills feel the same way. The only way, however, I see them trying to grab a QB in the 1st possibly is if they sign some great OTs in FA.

  3. Give Buddy and his team two offseasons and I bet things are looking a lot better. This is the first time in a long time we seem to have someone in charge who has a clear idea about what he want to do and how he wants to do it.

I agree with you. He seems to be thinking ahead and has a plan. How well he executes this plan will determine his worth. But I am of the camp that thinks he will work out.

  4. Its obvious the Bills and us fans want a franchise QB.

There have been many threads started about this such as drafting Clausen, Bradford, Trading up, moving down, LeFefour (sp) in round 3, McNabb, Derek Anderson, Campbell

    My question is this,

IF we draft a QB in round 3 are we really planning to make that QB our fanchise player? I know mid round picks have worked out before but Im talking about mindset here. Do they think it will be a temp fix and draft a round 1 QB next year?

I don't have the link, but in another thread someone illustrates the statistics on current franchise QBs and the round they are taken in. Besides Tom Brady, all franchise caliber QBs were taken in the 1st and 2nd round with Brees and Favre being the only 2 in the 2nd.

That being said, if the Bills do draft another 3rd rounder like Edwards, I think there isn't much hope for him to become a franchise guy. This doesn't mean he will be terrible, just not the long-term guy we all want.

  5. I'll admit that I know nothing about this kid, but the fact that he couldn't stick with 5 different clubs is all I need to know.

It's not like he was announced as the starting NT. Just bringing him in to compete does no harm. Who knows? He could fit in with George Edwards' system and be an asset. Nothing is guaranteed at this point so there is no problem in exploring your options.

  6. Whaley very well might turn out to be the best hire this team has made over the past 20 years. Anyone who wanted an up and coming GM with youth on his side might have their prayers answered in this guy. Obviously too early to tell but Whaley has seen the right way on how to get things done and I would not be surprised if he was GM within 3 years.

He left the Steelers because he wanted to start building from the ground level so look for him to really make his mark on the Buffalo Bills over the next couple years. Hopefully he takes his knowledge that he has learned from others around him and turns out to be the diamond in the rough that Buffalo has been looking for since Polian left.

Agreed. I think Whaley has great potential as a GM and hope that he takes over for Nix in the near future. Nothing against Nix, I would just like to see Whaley pan out.

Impressions from second QB-WR session -QB Report

I just got back from the second (and final) throwing session of the Combine and I can tell you this... Oklahoma State's Zac Robinson will be rising up draft boards with his performance today.

With highly touted passers Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow and Dan LeFevour all sitting out the throwing session, Robinson was among several passers who took advantage of the spotlight.

Robinson showed good footwork and balance dropping back -- a question mark considering he's coming from a spread offense -- and was consistently accurate to all levels of the field. He zipped intermediate slants and dig routes and showed plenty of drive on the deep out. As a perfect example of why quarterbacks should throw at the Combine, Robinson scored points with scouts on the accuracy of his deep ball (good trajectory, outside shade) despite none of his deep passes actually being caught by his receivers.

Arguably the second most impressive quarterback on this day was surprisingly Ole Miss' Jevan Snead. Snead was as accurate on this day as I've ever seen him -- hitting receivers in stride consistently and showing off his good arm strength. The problem with Snead is that he knows he has a good arm and he relies on it. He carries the ball a bit low and has a very quick release, but he rarely stepped into his throws today, relying almost exclusively on his arm. Snead has intriguing tools -- and he clearly helped his cause today by showing them -- but quarterback coaches I've spoken with in the past have pointed this out as an issue.

Cincinnati's Tony Pike was inconsistent today. The opposite of Snead, Pike has steps into his throws and has a nice over-the-top delivery, which is enhanced by his 6-5, 243 pounds. However, he sprayed the ball today, especially when throwing outside the numbers. He got better as the day went on and didn't do anything to lower his stock, but he certainly didn't seize the opportunity, either.

Under the radar quarterbacks Thaddeus Lewis (Duke), Riley Skinner (Wake Forest) and John Skelton (Fordham) showed why they are rated as they are. Lewis was inconsistent to most levels of the field, except on the deep ball - where his wounded ducks forced receivers to slow and, at times even stop their routes, to wait for the ball. Skelton was wildly erratic, especially early in the gauntlet drills. His high and wide throws consistently forced receivers to adjust, throwing off their balance and timing during drills.

I like what I have been hearing about this Robinson kid. If it's true that he has an accurate deep ball, then I'm in. Good footwork and balance, accuracy and a nice deep ball. Sign me up. We should take him in about the fourth round or so. Whether or not he is a day one starter, I wouldn't mind taking the time to develop him.

  8. If we could be assured that McClain would become as good a player as Patrick Willis is, then I'd be in favor of taking him in the right scenario.

Our nightmare scenario is that the top two NTs, the top 4 OTs, and the top 2 QBs will be gone by the time the Bills draft at #9 and that no other team would want to trade up for our pick.

The names I see all of you reciting in this scenario are McClain, Berry, Bryant, and Dan Williams.

I agree. The only reason I would take any of the aforementioned is in the worst case scenario you describe. Personally, I would McClain. He should be a force that will help us in defending the run.

  9. This thread is dumb because we're not taking Bryant. Nix seems to be a pretty sharp guy so an argument is moot for either case. Sorry but it's not happening and yes I'll wager on it.

Agreed. There is a snowballs chance in hell we take him.

  10. yeah that is an insane average. Maybe cause the defenses were so focused on the run game?

Read interview w/ him once, said his chances were rare, so had to make best of them. he could have transferred to another program that passed more when Paul Johnson came in, but stayed. classy.

here's stats, yep 25 yd ave...

had 46 receptions for 1,154 yards and eight touchdowns last season. During his three-year career at Tech, Thomas caught 120 passes for 2,339 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Good point on defenses focusing on the run.

I like that he states that he had to make the most of his chances. That shows he is a dedicated player and shouldn't be a disappointment. I mean if he makes the most of all his opportunities, maybe he could turn a short pass from one of our current dismal QBs into a big play. :wallbash:

  11. Wouldn't mind having all 3.... And before anyone adds the we already have a 30 year old RB on the team, Freddy has much less wear and tear then Jones, don't get me wrong though Jones is an absolute warrior out there and would be great to have in the rotation if his carries are monitored. Excellent redzone RB :wallbash: Probably wants too much $ though

I gotta agree with your assessment of Freddy, but I'm no so sure about bringing in Thomas. Yes, he is a good back, but he will probably want a fat contract after last year and I would like the Bills spending their money on other positions at this time.

  12. he seems like a quality player and person, but think he'll go higher than 3rd, and think we need to go w/ NT for our second pick.

His college stats are lower than they could be, since GT plays flexbone

I saw someone post elsewhere that his average yards per catch in GT was 25+

If that is true, then considering the flexbone offense he was in he is a great player. So, yes he most likely will be taken in the 2nd but with that foot injury I think there is a possibility he slips to the 3rd and we might take him. However we should focus on other positions so in reality it most likely will not happen.

  13. This kid has got Randy Moss written all over him. He's gonna fall to 18th or something because he took a free cell phone and someone's gonna walk away with the steal of the draft. I'll take your NCAA rules violations and raise you an invite to watch some of his highlights on youtube. He's built like TO in his prime with more speed.

And when those violations turn into suspensions there won't be a highlight reel. I'm not questioning his talent or ability, just his focus and desire. He doesn't seem to be that serious, but hey maybe he grows up. I just don't think the Bills should be making that kind of risk when there are bigger problems to take care of in the draft.
