  1. My favorite type of cooking. Slow braised dishes were my specialty when I cooked professionally actually. I made cassoulet at a restaurant in LA a number of years ago. Ruth Reichl was the LA Times restaurant critic at the time. She'd come in all the time and order two. One to eat there and one to take home which was pretty cool. Whenever it gets cold and rainy here and I ask the wife what I should make it's always "CASSOULET!!!"

Just giving him ideas for next time. :D

My wife refuses to eat lamb. Beef is the only red meat she'll eat, basically.

I developed my passion for Lebanese food while attending SU. I think I ate there 6 times a week for two years. Right on Marshall St.

That looks delicious, man. What a menu. Gonna have to see how hungry we are. It is, after all, gonna be the day after Thanksgiving! Thanks for the suggestion!!

PTR - Looking more closely at the menu, this looks like it's more Greek than Lebanese. What dishes are authentic Lebanese fare?

  3. 1977 graduate of Williamsville North! I probably graduated before you were in grade school though.....

We were in Buffalo for a funeral this weekend, and stopped in Elmo's in Getzville for wings....there was a crowd of people watching the WN Spartans spank Union-Endicott Friday night.

If you have time, the Carousel Mall has a few new offerings - go-cart track and Wonderworks, both of which he would enjoy.

My opinion, is the ropes course (Canyon Climb) at Wonderworks, is the best "bang for your buck" of all the new offerings.

You guys are close to turning this into an overnighter. Which would come at the expense of Beerball's Christmas gift.

  4. hungry charlies in the late 70's early 80's was great...just on the heels of video games, awesome deli sammies, great cheese fries..then they turned into a micro brewery for a while then back to the old format....great place, great time to be close to drinking age

We will definitely walk by it. If it looks decent, we'll go in. I'll let you know when I get back. I'm looking forward to the roadtrip and lunch with my son more than the game!!!

  5. Varsity Pizza, almost next door to the dome...if Hungry Charlies was still there the way it was back in the day, that would be awesome...it was lined with video games

Seems that Hungry Charlie's has changed ownership and is now "Chucks." Looks to be primarily a dive bar, now - and a shell of its former self. Bummer. Sounded cool. Varsity Pizza is still there and highly rated. Thanks!!!

  6. My local high school will be playing for the Class A football state championship the day after Thanksgiving.

I'm going to take my 10-year-old son to the game, as this is the school from which I graduated, as well as the school he currently attends.

I've only been to that area a handful of times, and only twice as an adult.

Other than Dinosaur's ... which is an experience that he'd likely love ... is there anything else in proximity to the Dome that would be both great food and a memorable atmosphere (keep his age in mind, please)?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
